Right after Drakzen cast his strange spell that montarily took away all of our senses, he escaped and took the two greater demons Vespera captured with him.
Salamandra’s corpse was left behind, which was a bit relieving since we knew it wouldn’t be coming back to life.
Still, I was feeling incredibly frustrated at the fact that Drakzen escaped again.
As I slowly cald down and shut off my awakening transformation, our entire group turned to look at Yoru, who was in his human form, looking indifferent.
"So... What the hell happened here?" I asked my two companions.
"Garon gave Yoru a task, so naturally, he is now a Legendary Beast," Vespera vaguely explained.
"Huh? Just like that? In the middle of a fight?" I continued.
Yoru wasn’t saying a word, so Vespera elaborated and told everything that had happened to them.
Apparently, during their fight, they were pulled to god’s realm to speak with Garon, who offered the title to Yoru.
When Vespera beca a Legendary Beast, she was tasked with protecting End Forest, which was the requirent she had to et to keep her title.
Yoru’s mission was to keep the world free of Accursed Beasts, so he was basically a roaming hunter for Garon.
Still, my familiar contracts with them were a break from those responsibilities, as the contracts took precedence over Garon’s mission. Still, it didn’t an they could just slack off.
Vespera would periodically visit her cave in End Forest to tend to her webs and spiders, which kept the area safe, and thus, she was taking care of her mission.
"I get it, but it’s still pretty unbelievable..." I said.
’Man... my cute wolf turned into so shirtless hot dude...’ I thought with a tear forming under my eyelid.
Don’t get wrong, I was amazed and happy that Yoru had beco a Legendary Beast, but I was thinking more about the way we lived.
Most nights, I slept hugging Yoru like a pillow since he was so fluffy and warm. Now, there was a chance I’d wake up hugging so shirtless dude!
It seed that Yoru knew what I was thinking, and without saying a word, he reverted back to his wolf form.
[This feels much more natural.] Yoru said, using his telepathy.
"Wait, you can turn back!?" I asked.
"Of course, he can. I can do it too, but I prefer this form as I’m already used to it..." Vespera answered.
’Interesting. I didn’t know Vespera could turn into her real animal form...’ I thought.
Vespera explained that the humanoid transformations of Legendary Beasts were stronger than their natural states.
However, so of them still liked to keep their animal bodies and only transford when they needed it.
Vespera’s humanoid form wasn’t only stronger, but she also liked its appearance better, so she didn’t see a reason to turn back to her natural state.
"Well, I’ll appreciate it if Yoru can at least keep his wolf form when we are sleeping together. Of course, if you need to fight, feel free to turn into anything..." I said.
My group chuckled at my words, even though I was half-joking. The other half was dead serious.
Suddenly, our mont of respite was interrupted by the sound of a rustling coming from the bushes.
"Oi, everyone okay there!?" said a voice in the distance.
"Is that...? Darfin?" I asked.
A few seconds later, the elf commander arrived at the scene with a couple of other hunter elves.
Darfin was the one who had been leading the fight against Salamandra, but when he saw his corpse lying on the ground, he quickly turned and ordered one of the hunters to tell the chief the news.
lina and I were healing the battle-maids with our potions, who fell asleep right after and didn’t notice that the elves had seen Nessa in her demon form.
"Another devil!" shouted one of the elves.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" I asked, turning around and seeing at least a dozen elves rushing at Nessa.
The pink-haired devil stood still, holding her hands shyly with reservation, and looked down, not even trying to defend herself.
’What are they doing...!?’ I thought.
"STOP!" I yelled from the bottom of my heart, using sound magic to increase the volu to the point where it pushed back the elves.
I went a bit overboard with the shout, as so of the elves were bleeding from their ears, but I couldn’t allow them to kill Nessa like that.
"What’s the aning of this!?" exclaid one of the elves I pushed back.
"Is the sage working with the devils!?" another one loudly asked.
"Silence!" Darfin shouted to his n.
The commander was the only elf who didn’t mindlessly go on the offensive against Nessa and stood on one side looking at his n with contempt.
"Let the sage explain himself. Are you trying to garner more enemies for us!?" the elf commander continued his reprimand.
Seeing that Darfin was a reasonable person, I cald down and explained everything that had happened in the forest.
Then, I followed up by telling them that Nessa was, indeed, a devil. However, she wasn’t working with them and wanted to live a peaceful life in our world.
Of course, it was a hard thing for them to believe, and I understood that. Nonetheless, it didn’t take away from the fact that it was true.
"Nessa isn’t the only devil who isn’t evil. One of my best friends is also like her..." I elaborated.
The elves had a hard ti coming to terms with my words since Nessa was still in her demon form.
Our group was already used to her overpowering demonic energy, so we didn’t think too much about it. However, for them, it felt like a powerful monster stood before them.
When I asked Nessa to retract her demonic energy, she returned back to her human-looking form, and the elves were able to relax a little—as if a heavy weight was taken off their shoulders.
"My apologies for the misunderstanding," Darfin said, bowing slightly.
"No, no. Don’t worry. I overreacted a little bit too..." I said, feeling sowhat embarrassed.
