He kissed her forehead.

Wen Ran’s shoulders tensed up in nervousness.

Fortunately, it was just a quick, fleeting kiss.

Fu Chenlie pulled back and, with one hand on the car door, looked at her and said, "The hugs and kisses we missed these past few days, we’ll make up for them all after the banquet ends and we’re back ho."

Wen Ran was just about to say sothing in response.

Bang—

He shut the car door.

Through the windshield, she watched as he walked around the front of the car, got into the driver’s seat, started the engine, and slightly furrowed her brow.

Was he intentionally stopping her from talking just now?

Who even talks about wanting to make up for hugs and kisses?

It’s been two or three days; if we’re making up for everything, how long would the hugging and kissing take?

Wouldn’t it... end up getting out of hand?!

Wen Ran’s thoughts ran wild because of that one sentence from him, filling the entire ride.

Twenty minutes later, the car stopped outside Jiang City International Hotel.

When Fu Chenlie got out of the car, he walked to the passenger side and opened the door for Wen Ran.

Wen Ran felt flattered and astonished.

She thought the man’s actions today were gentlemanly, but also strangely unusual.

After getting out of the car, she noticed the gazes from the people coming and going at the hotel directed toward her and Fu Chenlie. Her heart was inexplicably uneasy, worried that if colleagues who knew them saw this later, there was no way she could talk her way out of it.

Her thoughts were a chaotic ss when Fu Chenlie raised his arm and gestured toward her with a slight nod of his chin.

The aning was obvious—he wanted her to take his arm.

Wen Ran’s eyes widened in surprise as she stared at him. "Boss, are you okay?"

"It’s after work hours now. Call ’husband.’"

"Shut up!"

She jumped in shock, terrified that soone might overhear his words.

After saying that, Wen Ran didn’t take Fu Chenlie’s arm and instead hurried straight into the hotel.

The man behind her curved his lips into a smirk and followed her inside.

The banquet was being held in the ballroom on the third floor.

When Wen Ran stepped into the elevator, several other people also crowded in.

Fu Chenlie and Wen Ran stood toward the back, closer to the inner side, and just as the elevator doors were about to close, soone from outside called out—

"Wait a mont!"

A kind soul pressed the elevator’s open button, and the person caught up and stepped inside.

However, when Wen Ran saw the person’s face clearly, she froze slightly.

It was Liu Jing.

If she rembered correctly, it seed like Fu Chenlie had been the one to invite Liu Jing here.

Liu Jing also noticed Wen Ran and glanced at the champagne-colored gown she was wearing, which looked expensive. Her eyes betrayed a hint of disdain as she looked again at Fu Chenlie beside her, her inner jealousy rising.

A re driver can afford such a high-quality dress?

Being around rich people must feel really good.

Liu Jing maneuvered herself through the elevator crowd to stand next to Wen Ran. She sneered, "Wen Ran, your dress is so intricately designed. Could it be a knockoff of so brand? Wearing fake stuff is pretty disgraceful, you know."

Wen Ran tugged at the corner of her lips in a half-smile. "You see wearing sothing expensive and instantly label it fake. When I see you all dolled up, should I just go ahead and verbally diagnose you as... well... you know?"

"You—"

"What about ? Am I wrong? Don’t act like you’re the only one with a tongue."

Liu Jing wanted to snap back but noticed Fu Chenlie casting her a cold, intimidating glance, leading her to grit her teeth in frustration and quietly mutter, "Don’t think that putting on a fancy dress will suddenly make you a phoenix perching up high."

Wen Ran coldly huffed and rolled her eyes.

What does it have to do with her?

Besides, she had already beco that phoenix—but she just wasn’t telling her.

Ding—

The elevator arrived.

After the people in front stepped out, Wen Ran also moved to exit.

Liu Jing, standing behind her, caught sight of the hem of her dress and an idea imdiately sprang to mind.

If she stepped on Wen Ran’s dress, would Wen Ran fall flat on her face? Maybe even... end up exposing herself for all the n to see?
