The whole room was turned upside down as Eryx tried to find the marriage certificate that he tossed away two years ago.
"Help find it!" He shouted at Callum who was currently looking for it.
"Sir, do you think you put it at the office?" Callum asked, just to make sure.
Eryx took a few monts to think but eventually shook his head, "I don’t think so, after registering the marriage, I went straight ho."
Callum let out a sigh, shoving aside a stack of old docunts. "Then it has to be here sowhere."
Eryx ran a frustrated hand through his hair, scanning the ss around him. His mory was hazy, but he was certain he hadn’t taken the certificate to his office. He barely even looked at it after they registered it.
"Check the other drawers," he ordered while leaning closer to check inside the drawer he was currently checking.
As if on cue, his fingers brushed against sothing wedged at the back of a drawer. He grabbed it and pulled out a small, passport-like book—his marriage certificate.
But the mont he opened it, his stomach churned.
The pages were warped, stained with water damage. The ink had bled through, saring the details, leaving only fragnts of the text legible. His own na was clear, but his wife’s na—
His eyes zeroed in on the barely readable letters: "...Hayes."
His grip on the booklet tightened. Hayes. His mind raced, but the na was too common to be a definite answer.
His breath felt heavier as he ran a hand through his hair again. "Damn it," he muttered. The picture, her picture was beyond recognition. Scratched, ruined beyond repair. It was as if fate was deliberately keeping the truth just out of his reach.
Callum peered over his shoulder. "Can you make it out?"
Eryx clenched his jaw. "Only the last na. But that’s not enough."
He exhaled sharply, trying to suppress the uneasy feeling twisting in his gut. He had a na but no face, no certainty.
"But sir, Miss Lunara’s family na is Hayes," Callum pointed out cautiously.
Eryx remained silent, his grip on the small book tightening. His mind raced.
"Find out everything about her," Eryx finally said, his voice low and tense. "I want confirmation."
"Cyrus!" Naomi rushed in, her expression sour. "Did you get married without telling ?!"
Eryx rolled his eyes. "I told you to stop calling Cyrus."
"That’s your na too... What’s the problem? Now, answer my question. Why didn’t I know you were married?" Naomi stepped closer, and at that mont, her eyes caught the book in Eryx’s hand. "Is that your marriage certificate?!"
The mont she tried to snatch it from Eryx’s hand, he raised the book out of reach. "What do you want? I’m busy."
"So now you’re too busy to answer your sister’s question?" She narrowed her eyes playfully. "Although I’m angry that you got married without telling , I couldn’t be more excited for you too..." She flashed a wide smile. "Now, tell ... who’s the girl? Is she pretty? What’s her na?"
Instead of answering her questions, Eryx let out a loud sigh. "Callum, get the information. As soon as possible."
Callum, who had been standing still since Naomi entered, nodded. "Right away, sir." He walked out of the study, leaving the room in silence once again.
Naomi was already glaring at Eryx for ignoring her. Placing her hands on her waist, she huffed, "Never mind. I guess you’re toooo busy to even talk to nowadays. Congratulations, and yes, I hope you have a happy marriage." She rolled her eyes in annoyance.
She was about to walk out the door when a maid suddenly rushed up to her. "Young Miss, Madam is looking for you," she said, slightly out of breath.
"? Why?" Naomi tilted her head, curious. Then, glancing back, she smirked. "Bye, Mr. Cyrus." She stuck her tongue out at him.
As they walked out, the maid casually added, "Oh, I heard Madam is actually looking for Miss Lunara."
The na caught Eryx’s attention imdiately. He stopped them in their tracks. "Wait, what did you just say?"
"Madam is looking for the Young Miss?" the maid repeated hesitantly.
"No, no. Not that," Eryx said, his gaze sharpening. "You said she’s looking for Miss Lunara?" He repeated the na, just to make sure he hadn’t misheard.
"Ah, yes," the maid said, her eyes darting between Eryx and Naomi. "Miss Lunara is... the Young Miss’s friend. She has been living here for a few—"
"Wait, wait..." Eryx interrupted, stopping the maid from continuing. "So I didn’t hear the na wrong. Lunara... is it Lunara Hayes?"
Naomi frowned. "What’s with it? Do you know her?"
Eryx raised an eyebrow. "Do you know her?"
"Of course!" Naomi’s high-pitched voice filled the room. "She’s my best friend. What is it? Did you do sothing?"
"Your best friend?" Eryx stepped forward, closing the distance between them. "Where is she?"
Naomi narrowed her eyes, curiosity creeping in. She crossed her arms. "Why do you want to know? Don’t even think about anything... she’s married."
"I know she’s married, but for now, just tell where she is. I need to ask her sothing." Eryx grasped Naomi’s hand, hoping she knew Lunara’s whereabouts.
Naomi looked confused. "She followed Mom to the office and... Wait! How do you know she’s married?"
Before Eryx could respond, a firm voice interrupted them.
"Naomi."
They turned to see Regina standing at the doorway, her expression unreadable.
"Where is Lunara?" she asked, but a flicker of surprise crossed her face when she t Eryx’s eyes.
"What is this? Why is everyone looking for Ara?" Naomi’s frown deepened. "Mom... you brought her to the office earlier, and now you’re asking where she is?"
"She left early, and I thought—"
"You thought what? What are you planning now, Madam Grantham?" Eryx turned to his mother, his forehead creased in a deep frown. "You know her from the start, don’t you?"
