Su Mu had originally wanted to go alone, but Wen Han was not at ease, insisting on accompanying her:

"I an no disrespect," he said, "it’s just that you’ve only recently recovered, and I’m worried sothing unexpected might happen. If it’s inconvenient for you, I won’t join in your conversation—I’ll just wait for you in the car."

Wen Han’s insistence made it difficult for Su Mu to refuse:

"There’s nothing you can’t be involved in. I just feel you don’t need to waste your own ti for my sake. It’s not easy to be transferred to the bureau without having to return to the military. If you have ti, you should spend it with Shaoyuan."

"He has been wanting to visit you," Wen Han looked at her, "When you feel better, I’ll bring him over."

Su Mu nodded lightly: "Okay."

When Su Mu arrived, Lawyer Zhang was already waiting, at the sa spot as last ti. The difference was that today was a weekend, and the store was filled with custors, creating a joyful atmosphere that made Su Mu’s divorce seem even more desolate in contrast.

Upon seeing Su Mu enter, Lawyer Zhang stood up from his seat. Greeting her, he caught sight of Wen Han by her side, betraying a mont of surprise and a multitude of thoughts, all of which were hidden behind his professional smile:

"Mrs. Fu, please have a seat."

Not knowing how to address Wen Han, he simply nodded a greeting.

Once everyone was seated, Su Mu got straight to the point:

"Lawyer Zhang, you must have brought the agreent, right? Give it to ."

Upon hearing this, Lawyer Zhang couldn’t help but take an extra look at Su Mu. She should have known what kind of agreent he had brought. Logically, being married to soone like Fu Shinian, she should want to stay together for life, if not for love, then at least for the status of being Mrs. Fu. Fu Shinian wasn’t a petty man, and she would have been assured a life free from material worries. But the woman in front of him seed eager to get divorced.

He took the agreent out of his briefcase and placed it in front of Su Mu:

"This is the agreent. Please take a look, and if there’s no problem, you can sign it."

Su Mu picked up the agreent and read through it. It was straightforward and clear, and she finished reading the entire content in less than half a minute. However, her gaze lingered on the signature of Fu Shinian at the end, lost in thought for a long ti. She seldom had the opportunity to see his handwriting but couldn’t deny that his handwriting, just like the man himself, carried a certain character. She wondered what he felt when he signed his na on this agreent?

Perhaps due to Fu Shinian’s recent distraction, Lawyer Zhang wasn’t surprised by Su Mu’s reaction, nor did he urge her. He patiently waited until she put down the agreent and looked at him:

"It’s fine."

Lawyer Zhang passed her his pen, but didn’t speak, knowing anything he said at this mont would be inappropriate.

Su Mu looked at the pen in front of her, hesitating for a few seconds before she took it, removed the cap, and held it between her fingers. Yet as she hovered above the spot where she was to sign, her hand started to tremble slightly, and even she was surprised by her reaction. She tried to control it, but couldn’t.

Slowly, it wasn’t just her hand that trembled—her heart began to shake as well.

She thought getting to this stage, divorce, was nothing to cry about—as there was no retreat, only utmost disappointnt. Still, tears fell from her eyes, blurring ’Fu Shinian’ on the paper.

Perhaps she was very clear that once she signed, she would have to say goodbye to the affection of the past seven years, definitively end her marriage of over two years, and treat the person she had loved, beco weary of, and lost hope in, as a complete stranger.

She may have been weary, and there may have been disappointnt, but her love was real.

Now she had to tear this dear piece of flesh from her heart—with such pain, how could she truly be willing to let go?

But what good would the pain do? Without signing, her life ahead would likely be even more painful.

And what good would not wanting to let go do? Knowing all the truths, she could no longer turn a blind eye and continue to compromise and live on.

The only path before her eyes was to sign.

Wen Han, seated next to her, saw all of her reactions very clearly. He kept silent, believing she needed ti, but her agony was so obvious he began to doubt whether divorce was truly the right choice for Su Mu.

He lifted his hand and grasped Su Mu’s, which held the pen. Su Mu thought it was just a comforting gesture, and it was only after a few seconds that she turned to look at him:

"I’m okay."

"Su Mu, no one is forcing you to divorce. You don’t have to sign this."

Su Mu shook her head:

"There is no way forward for him and ."

"Not necessarily. There might still be light at the end of the tunnel."

Su Mu pulled her hand away:

"Even if there is, I don’t have the courage to take it anymore."

Her last attempt to turn back and forgive had exhausted all her courage. She couldn’t lower herself any further, nor could she erase everything.

Looking up at Lawyer Zhang:

"I’m sorry for the delay."

Lawyer Zhang gave a light smile: "You’re being too polite."

Su Mu turned her gaze back to the divorce agreent. This ti, as if making a montous decision, she wrote down her na without any hesitation. After signing the first copy, she carefully signed the second one, reviewed it, then capped the pen and pushed both the pen and the agreent towards Lawyer Zhang.

"I’ve signed it."

Lawyer Zhang picked up the agreent and checked it: "No problem."

Su Mu watched as Lawyer Zhang carefully placed the agreent back into his briefcase. Suddenly feeling like what he was putting away wasn’t just two sheets of paper—he was putting away her entire youth.

Lawyer Zhang didn’t leave imdiately. Looking at Su Mu, he hesitated for a few seconds before deciding to speak:

"According to the correct procedure, you and Mr. Fu still need to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to complete the divorce formalities. However, Mr. Fu has been very busy lately and probably doesn’t have ti. So he asked to tell you that he will have soone pull so strings to handle the divorce procedures, and you won’t need to make the trip."

Su Mu nodded:

"Okay, I got it. Thank you for the trouble."

"No trouble at all," Lawyer Zhang rose from his seat. "If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave first."

Su Mu nodded, watching him leave step by step, until he disappeared from her sight entirely.

Wen Han briefly left his seat and, upon his return, sat down across from Su Mu, placing a cup of milk tea in front of her:

"Maybe you’ll like sothing sweet at a ti like this."

Su Mu looked at the rich and fragrant milk tea and smiled slightly:

"Thank you."

"We don’t need to be so formal between us," Wen Han looked at her. "What are your plans now?"

Clutching the milk tea, Su Mu fell silent for a long ti before looking up at Wen Han with a smile:

"Of course, to start a new life."
