Wei Shaoqin’s cooking, while lacking in presentation, still tasted really good. Su Mu had just one bite before giving him a high complint, and upon hearing it, he bead like a child, as if it were the most accomplished achievent of his life.

Just as they were about to take their seats, the doorbell rang. Wei Shaoqin went to answer it and saw Wen Han standing at the entrance holding a bag of groceries as well; however, the sight of Wei Shaoqin in an apron told Wen Han that he was late, and he smiled faintly:

"I ca to mooch a al."

Wei Shaoqin wasn’t petty, especially since he very much needed validation for his cooking skills, so he stepped aside to let Wen Han in.

After changing shoes and carrying the groceries into the dining room, Wen Han saw Su Mu eating and smiled faintly:

"There was sothing going on at the office, so I’m late. I was worried you might be hungry, but it seems I was overthinking."

Su Mu, looking at the groceries in his hand, felt an indescribable emotion welling up inside her. Perhaps she had lost a great deal before yesterday, so much that it was unbearable, but at the sa ti, she gained a lot—the invaluable friendships and relationships were treasures that she wouldn’t co across often in her lifeti.

After sorting the groceries into the fridge, Wen Han washed his hands and took a seat at the dining room table. Wei Shaoqin, full of excitent, boasted:

"I made all of this. Su Mu said it tasted good; you should try so too."

Wen Han politely thanked him and after tasting a bite, he affird, "It really is good."

Wei Shaoqin was even happier, looking at Su Mu with pride:

"I really am a genius. This is just with one day of practice. Think if I practiced for ten days to a month, wouldn’t the head chefs at Michelin-starred restaurants have to step down? I was worried that my tinkering would bring down Wei’s company, but now it looks like I worried for nothing. Even if it goes under, I can still support myself as a head chef."

Su Mu couldn’t help but smile:

"You certainly know how to gauge yourself."

"It’s important to be self-aware," he replied.

Perhaps it was because Wei Shaoqin was so pleased from being praised that after they finished eating, he even took on the task of cleaning up the dishes, not allowing anyone else to help. Wen Han and Su Mu exchanged a glance and smiled faintly, letting him do as he wished, after all, nurturing a child’s interest is always to be encouraged.

After cleaning up, Wei Shaoqin was called back to the office by a phone call. Although he wasn’t quite at ease leaving Su Mu alone, seeing that Wen Han didn’t seem in any rush to leave put his mind at ease.

It seed to him that, since Su Mu’s incident, everyone had unspokenly started to keep a silent pact, trying to keep her company as much as possible. Wei Shaoqin had so reservations about Wen Han, but at that mont, he also felt it was for the best. At least when he was too busy to be there himself, soone could keep her company.

Wen Han didn’t have much to say to Su Mu; he didn’t want to offer comfort either. Firstly because he believed Su Mu was not soone to take things hard, and secondly because he really wasn’t good at offering comfort.

The reason he sat there was simply because he felt that even though she could understand everything clearly, at this stage, it was better not to be alone.

Right then, the two of them were sitting on the living room sofa with the TV tuned to a movie channel broadcasting old films, creating a not-so-awkward atmosphere.

"Do you want to take a nap?" Wen Han asked Su Mu, "Pregnant won should rest more."

Su Mu glanced at the ti, hesitating a bit.

"Are you waiting for soone?"

Su Mu nodded. She was waiting for a call from Lawyer Zhang. Based on Fu Shinian’s temperant, he was sure to make her sign divorce papers today, as he wasn’t one to put things off until tomorrow. Especially since the decision to divorce had been made and there was no turning back, the likelihood of getting a call from Lawyer Zhang today was quite high.

Wen Han didn’t ask who she was waiting for, just smiled gently:

"Then it shouldn’t be a problem for to stay here, right? You won’t feel uncomfortable, will you?"

Su Mu shook her head:

"No, but you must have your own things to do, right? I’m actually doing quite well; you and Wei Shaoqin don’t need to co over every day, I’m not a child."

"When I rescued you back then, you were just a child, weren’t you?"

That year she was 16, Wen Han was 26.

anwhile, Lawyer Zhang was in the hospital room, handing the newly drafted divorce agreent to Fu Shinian. Qiao Yu stood to one side and glanced over it. Seeing that the agreent was quite brief, taking up less than a page, he frowned:

"What’s with this agreent? Su Mu’s leaving without taking anything?"

It was actually just a few short lines of text, and Fu Shinian could have read through them quickly, but he deliberately read each word over and over again. Lawyer Zhang did not understand why, thinking there might be a problem with the agreent he drafted, and when he was about to ask, Qiao Yu stopped him with a look.

A few minutes later, Fu Shinian handed the agreent back to Lawyer Zhang:

"No problem."

Lawyer Zhang took it with slight trepidation:

"Then, shall I contact Mrs. Fu now?"

"The sooner the better, she’s probably waiting," replied Fu Shinian.

"Okay." Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Lawyer Zhang wanted to leave quickly: "If there’s nothing else, I will take my leave."

Fu Shinian replied softly, without adding anything else, and waited until Lawyer Zhang had left the room. Then Qiao Yu let out a slight sigh:

"Did Su Mu refuse everything?"

"Yeah, she doesn’t want anything. She said she doesn’t want any more contact with ; even the money I gave her before, including the card, she returned all of it to . She also didn’t sign for the properties I transferred to her."

"It seems she has truly given up on you." Qiao Yu sat down in a chair nearby, looking at Fu Shinian indifferently: "Other won would fear you give them too little, but Su Mu, on the contrary, doesn’t want anything. This can only an that she genuinely liked you, loved you once. Unfortunately, it did not end well."

Fu Shinian looked out the window, silent for a long ti; how he wished for a good ending with Su Mu, how he wished to make good on all those promises one by one, but this feeling of powerlessness against reality ultimately left him helpless.

——

At three o’clock in the afternoon, Su Mu received the call she had been waiting for. She agreed on a eting place with Lawyer Zhang and hung up the phone. She didn’t move right away, instead holding her phone tightly in her hand, maintaining the sa posture on the sofa for a very long ti.

Wen Han made no sound to disturb her and rely accompanied her quietly, with only the sound of an old movie playing on the TV, though neither of them seed to pay any attention to it.

After nearly ten minutes, Su Mu finally moved. She got up, apologizing with a glance at Wen Han:

"I’m going to change my clothes."

"Okay."

Her clothes, which were previously kept here at Jiang Bei’s place, were not many but enough to wear. She picked the warst set to put on and gave a faint smile to her reflection in the mirror:

"You can do this, Su Mu."

Only by ending a wrong journey can you encounter the most beautiful scenery.
