Wei Shaoqin, fearing the ambulance would delay, drove Su Mu to the hospital himself. He ran countless red lights along the way, and looking at the completely unconscious Su Mu in the backseat, he felt for the first ti that he might have really gone too far—because he could clearly sense that this ti, Su Mu was not trying to save herself, but truly had not thought about surviving.

An hour later, they finally reached the hospital sponsored by Wei’s family. Since he had called ahead, all ergency asures were already in place. Watching the doctors thodically take Su Mu for treatnt, Wei Shaoqin realized his hands were trembling.

In his lifeti, he had been with quite a few won, but this was the first ti he t soone so fiery, preferring death over submission.

Whether or not he wanted to admit it, Su Mu was truly different from the other won he had known. In that mont, Wei Shaoqin felt admiration for Su Mu.

Su Mu had lost a lot of blood, but fortunately, the wound was not fatal. Although it looked frightening, there was no concern for her life. When the doctor updated Wei Shaoqin on her condition, he was sitting on a bench in the corridor and took a long breath of relief—not because he couldn’t bear the burden of a human life, but because if such a woman died, his life would indeed lose much of its pleasure.

Su Mu, with her wound stitched up, was transferred to a VIP ward. When Wei Shaoqin entered, she was still unconscious. The drip hanging by her bed proved she was being transfused. Her face was deathly pale, looking so fragile yet she had the courage to inflict such harsh harm on herself.

Wei Shaoqin walked over, watching her for a few seconds, then chuckled lightly,

"What to do? I find myself becoming more and more interested in you."

...

The surgery for Su Mu’s mother lasted 3 hours, but thankfully was very successful. Once Fu Shinian received the news, he planned not to stay in the hospital. After arranging two skilled nurses to take care of her through Qiao Yu, he left the hospital.

The car drove smoothly on the road, and he sat in the backseat, tiredly closing his eyes to rest. Still, his mind was filled with Jiang Bei’s recent words, saying,

[Even if what you say is right, what about accidents? Can you guarantee that during the ti we cannot reach her, she hasn’t been robbed, hit by a car, or kidnapped?]

Although Fu Shinian did not believe Su Mu would be so unlucky, the fact that she had not shown up until now was true.

He opened his eyes and made a call to Bishui Yuntian:

"Has the lady returned ho?"

Auntie Lin cautiously replied from the other end of the phone, "Not yet."

Fu Shinian ended the call and then called Su Mu’s number, only to hear the cold ’off’ again. It was already past 10 pm; she had not returned ho, and her phone was unreachable. It was the first ti since they married that this had happened, and Fu Shinian finally took Jiang Bei’s words seriously—maybe she really had run into danger.

Thinking this, Fu Shinian imdiately called Ji Nanfeng, but the call rang for a long ti before it was picked up, the voice husky and sexy, obviously soone engaged in activities:

"Fu Shinian, you have a wife yourself; you should know how annoying it is to be disturbed during intimate monts, right?"

"Su Mu is missing."

Fu Shinian didn’t use words like ’unreachable’ or ’can’t find her’; he said ’missing’ directly, believing Ji Nanfeng would understand the gravity of the word.

True to expectations, Ji Nanfeng beca serious at once, "What happened?"

Fu Shinian briefly explained:

"You are involved with both the dark and bright sides in Shen City, and you can search more conveniently than I can. I must leave this matter to you."

"Alright, I understand. I’ll contact you the mont I have news."

After hanging up, Fu Shinian pondered for a few seconds, then dialed another number, "Song Yi, check out the lady’s schedule today at Junyue Hotel."

Song Yi was the first to co back with news. Fu Shinian had just returned to Bishui Yuntian when Song Yi’s call ca in, but the news was completely unexpected:

"Mr. Fu, the manager of Junyue Hotel says that the lady has been on leave, not working for nearly half a month now."

Fu Shinian’s steps halted at this sentence. He looked at the house where he had lived for two years, suddenly finding it very glaring.

Though Song Yi was not by Fu Shinian’s side nor saw his expression, the silence from Fu Shinian made Song Yi too afraid to breathe out loud; he could clearly feel that Mr. Fu was brewing a storm that could sweep everything away!

"On leave? Why didn’t I know?" Fu Shinian said coldly, "Go check, I want her movents for the past half-month."

"Yes."

Just when Song Yi thought Fu Shinian would end the call, he unexpectedly changed his mind, his voice as cold as before:

"No need to check."

So things, he needed her to admit personally!

For half a month, she had been leaving early and returning late, busier than him— he thought it was really so official business, yet it turned out to be a clumsy deception, and he never suspected a thing!

Su Mu, Mrs. Fu, she’s really getting more capable!

...

When Su Mu woke up, it was already the next day’s morning. Looking around at the unfamiliar surroundings, her mind went blank for a mont. Pain throbbed from the wound on her wrist, and she suddenly rembered what had happened the day before. Almost instinctively, she checked her clothes only to discover that she was no longer wearing what she had on yesterday. Before she could consider whether she had done anything to betray Fu Shinian, a voice disrupted her thoughts:

"Don’t worry, though I have a fetish for female corpses, I don’t have the wicked pleasure of killing people."

Su Mu looked at Wei Shaoqin, who was lazily getting up from the couch. He seed to have had a rough sleep and yawned before slowly turning his gaze to Su Mu. Noticing her resentful eyes, Wei Shaoqin couldn’t help but smile:

"Are those eyes accusing of being too lenient?"

Su Mu averted her gaze, not bothering with him. The ti on the wall read 5 AM, aning she hadn’t been ho all day since she left yesterday. Fu Shinian had already been dissatisfied with her recent late returns. What would happen if he found out she hadn’t returned all night?

As she looked around and didn’t find her phone, Su Mu asked Wei Shaoqin, "Where is my bag?"

"Probably still at the farm."

"Have soone send it over."

"Su Mu, do you realize that I saved you, yet from the mont you woke up until now, you haven’t thanked once, and you’re ordering around? Where’s the logic in that?"

If possible, Su Mu really wanted to walk over and tear his face apart. She had seen shaless people before, but never soone as brazen as Wei Shaoqin:

"Wei Shaoqin, do you want to recall why I ended up in the hospital? You expect gratitude for the ss you created, do you think you are the Creator?"

Wei Shaoqin chuckled:

"Arguing with ? Seems you’re indeed not going to die. Fine, I’ll have soone send your bag over now."

The bag arrived quickly. Within fifteen minutes of Wei Shaoqin making the call, soone knocked on the hospital room door. Wei Shaoqin got up to answer it and returned with the bag, handing it to Su Mu. He watched as she hurriedly took out her phone and turned it on, smiling:

"Worried about your boyfriend checking up on you? But having not gone ho all night and not called, even if nothing happened between us, he probably won’t believe it, right?"

"That’s my own business, not sothing for you, the chief culprit, to gossip about here."

As soon as the phone turned on, it kept getting texts and WeChat ssages, alerting her to several missed calls. Before she could go through them, Jiang Bei’s call ca through. Su Mu pressed the answer button:

"Xiaobei."

"You still know how to answer the phone? Where the hell have you been?!" Jiang Bei’s angry voice ca through, full of fury: "Do you know I fucking looked for you all night? I thought you were dead, Su Mu, do you even consider a friend..."

Jiang Bei’s shouting turned into choked sobs by the end. Su Mu had never seen her cry in all the years they’d known each other. Now, hearing her distressed for her, Su Mu felt moved by their friendship and imnsely guilty:

"I’m sorry, so unforeseen incidents happened last night, and I couldn’t contact you."

"Don’t talk much now, just co to the hospital, your mother had a sudden brain hemorrhage yesterday afternoon and was rushed to the hospital..."

Su Mu’s ears buzzed, and suddenly she couldn’t hear anything else.

Wei Shaoqin, noticing her reaction, heard the ongoing calls of Su Mu’s na from the phone and couldn’t help but snatch the phone from her:

"What did you say that has frozen her like this?"

Jiang Bei was taken aback, "Who are you?"

"I’m Su Mu’s lifesaver."

Although Jiang Bei was sowhat skeptical, it wasn’t the mont to dwell on it. She briefly explained the situation to Wei Shaoqin, who frowned slightly before finally stating calmly:

"Understood."

After hanging up the phone, Wei Shaoqin found himself rarely at a loss. He had never imagined that while he was scheming to win Su Mu over, her mother was struggling between life and death. If... if his actions had prevented Su Mu from seeing her mother one last ti, his guilt would haunt him for a lifeti.

Gently placing the phone on the bedside table, Wei Shaoqin was unsure how to begin speaking. He struggled for a long ti before he could say sothing, but before he could speak, Su Mu, who had been stiff all this while, suddenly yanked out her IV and got off the bed. Due to her extre weakness, she nearly fell, but luckily, Wei Shaoqin quickly supported her:

"Don’t rush, your friend ntioned that your mother’s surgery went smoothly and there’s no longer any danger to her life."

Such words did not make Su Mu feel any better. That was her only relative in this world, and she couldn’t imagine what she’d look like if her mother left her. Looking at the man responsible before her, Su Mu couldn’t stop herself from harboring hate and resentnt. She used all her strength to slap him hard:

"Wei Shaoqin, if anything happens to my mother, I will kill you!"
