"Vice Principal, you were looking for ?" Dugu Qianye said to the old man.
"Hehe, Baili Xie. Don’t you rember this old man?" the old man asked, opening his eyes to look at Dugu Qianye.
Dugu Qianye was speechless at the old man’s words.
"May I know why the Vice Principal has summoned ?" Dugu Qianye asked.
"Can’t I look for you if there’s nothing urgent?" the old man looked at Dugu Qianye with a plaintive gaze.
Dark clouds gathered, and thunder rolled across the sky!
Seeing Dugu Qianye’s constipated expression, the old man stopped teasing her and said, "I just heard from the Academic Affairs Office that your team completed 10 level-three quests?"
"Yes," Dugu Qianye replied.
"Not to ntion freshn, hardly any seniors would dare to take on so many missions at once. Why did you accept so many at the sa ti?" the old man asked.
"It’s convenient, saves trouble," Dugu Qianye replied nonchalantly.
The old man was taken aback by Dugu Qianye’s response. He was expecting so grand declaration, only to hear it was all for convenience! He dropped the subject and said, "I went out recently and ran into an old acquaintance. He asked to relay a ssage: he won’t be able to visit you in the Imperial Capital anyti soon. He gave you a book to study on your own for the ti being."
With that, he took out a book from his ring and threw it to Dugu Qianye, who opened it to see it was a Refining Manual.
"Did you run into Master Youwu, Vice Principal?" Dugu Qianye asked, tucking the manual into her ring.
The old man gave Dugu Qianye a look and said, "Since you’ve acknowledged him as your grandfather, you should acknowledge as your grandfather too! Otherwise, that dead old man gets all the benefits."
Uh, Dugu Qianye was at a loss for words. Was that really a reason to claim kinship?
"That doesn’t seem right!" Dugu Qianye refused.
Seeing Dugu Qianye’s reaction, the old man broke into loud sobs, "I don’t care, you’ve acknowledged that dead Youwu as your grandfather, you have to acknowledge too! Wah wah, you can’t treat this old man unfairly! Wah wah..."
"Ugh, Principal, you’re not shedding any tears. Fake crying won’t do any good," Dugu Qianye said with a face full of black lines. Why does everyone like to use this tactic! Is it a case of birds of a feather flock together?
"Ah, is that so?" the old man stopped, then pinched his thigh hard enough to bring real tears to his eyes, and burst into crying again.
Dugu Qianye looked up at the sky speechlessly, seeing it filled with black crows.
"Cry, cry, what’s all this crying about, it’s so noisy!" Xie Fan ca out from the inner suite, "You ask to work but can’t even provide a peaceful environnt! How can such a grown man still cry, it’s so disgraceful!"
"Wah wah, little Xie Fan, he acknowledged that Youwu as his grandfather but not ! That dead Youwu ended up with one more cute granddaughter, wah wah..." the old man clung to Xie Fan’s waist, lanting with tears.
Dugu Qianye was nearly struck dumb by the old man. Finding the Dean staring at her, she felt her scalp go numb.
"Hehe, hello, Dean!" Dugu Qianye greeted Xie Fan with an embarrassed smile.
"Baili Xie? What are you doing here?" Xie Fan asked.
"The Vice Principal called ," Dugu Qianye answered.
"Grandfather, you should be saying grandfather, wah wah..." the old man interjected.
"If she doesn’t acknowledge, then let it be; what’s with all the crying, it’s so embarrassing!" Xie Fan scolded the person saring tears and snot all over him.
"Little Xie Xie, she’s Old Mo’s granddaughter, woo woo, can you believe Old Mo’s granddaughter acknowledged that deadbeat Master Youwu as her grandfather and not , how much have I lost!" the old man cried as he spoke.
Are you crying so sadly because Dugu Qianye doesn’t recognize you, or because Master Youwu gained a granddaughter and not you?
"She’s Old Mo’s granddaughter?" Xie Fan asked.
The old man nodded and said, "She’s Qiushui’s girl’s girl, that’s who she is!"
"Qiushui’s daughter? Haha, I never thought that little girl would have grown up so much," Xie Fan said nostalgically. Then he turned to Dugu Qianye and said, "In that case, it’s totally fine for you to call him ’Grandpa’."
"Hmm?" Dugu Qianye was confused.
"Haha, sit down and let’s talk slowly." Xie Fan clapped a hand on his waist, "Now, let go of !"
The old man pursed his lips, released Xie Fan, and shrank into his rocking chair, swaying back and forth.
Dugu Qianye couldn’t help laughing at the old man’s aggrieved appearance.
"He’s always like that, just ignore him," Xie Fan said to Dugu Qianye, "Co on, let’s sit down and talk."
Dugu Qianye sat down below Xie Fan.
"Technically, you should be calling ’Grandma’," Xie Fan startled Dugu Qianye with his first words. She definitely would have spat out her water if she had been drinking!
"Uh, you look so young, it really wouldn’t be fitting to call you ’Grandma’," Dugu Qianye said.
"Haha. Your grandfather, Mo Zhenting and I are about the sa age, you know. If you don’t call ’Grandma,’ what will you call ?" Xie Fan said, "Back in the day, all of us t here in the academy. Your Grandfather Mo Zhenting, the current headmaster Qiongli, Han Gao, who is now known as Youwu, myself, and my twin brother Xie Ping—we five beca friends during our freshman years because we hit it off so well and we’ve stayed in touch for over a hundred years since."
Having sipped so tea, Xie Fan continued, "We all knew about your mother’s situation back then. Your grandfather was a bit stubborn at the ti, but later he regretted it deeply. After your mother brought you back, we visited you, and I even held you once. You even pulled out a handful of Old Xie’s beard!"
Dugu Qianye looked at the old man, who was now looking upwards, pouting his lips and blowing at his fringe.
"After your mother disappeared again, your grandfather went to look for her personally. Then, they both disappeared."
"My grandfather disappeared too?" Dugu Qianye looked at Xie Fan in surprise.
"You didn’t know?" Xie Fan was also surprised, "Haven’t you been ho?"
Dugu Qianye touched her head and said, "I wanted to study hard at school and didn’t want others to know I was from the Mo Family, so I never went back. Wasn’t Grandfather in seclusion?"
"That’s what we told people. At that ti, the Feng Family was putting a lot of pressure on the Mo Family, and we couldn’t use the academy’s resources for personal reasons. If they knew your grandfather was gone, the situation could have been much worse," Xie Fan said.
"So the headmaster is also..." Dugu Qianye asked.
Xie Fan paused for a mont, then said, "You knew about this?"
Dugu Qianye nodded and said, "I once heard soone say that the headmaster had actually disappeared."
"After your grandfather disappeared, Qiongli found a clue to locate him and then never returned. However, there were still ssages from him until a few years ago. It’s only been in the last two years that we’ve lost contact. Your Grandpa Youwu went to investigate," Xie Fan said.
"Where are they now?" Dugu Qianye asked.
"Child, now is not the ti for you to know, knowing too much may actually be detrintal. Your task now is to focus on your training and improve your own strength," Xie Fan advised.
