By the ti Lu Jueyu and Li Chenmo arrived at their hos, the sky had darkened, and the children had already finished dinner and gone to their rooms.
Lu Jueyu and Li Chenmo locked the gates and doors before heading to their bedroom. Both of them were exhausted, so they decided to enter her space for a bath and dinner. After resting for ten hours, they ca out of the space and continued to sleep until dawn.
Early the next morning, Lu Jueyu woke up feeling nauseous. She patted her husband's arm while covering her mouth with her other hand, trying to hold back the nausea.
Feeling the pat, Li Chenmo woke up and saw his wife's pale face. He quickly reached for the spittoon on the bedside and handed it to her.
Lu Jueyu couldn't hold back any longer and vomited into the spittoon.
Instead of feeling disgusted, Li Chenmo was filled with worry.
While gently patting her back, he handed her a cup of warm water mixed with spiritual herb powder and said, "Wife, how about you go into your space and rest for a while?"
Lu Jueyu shook her head and said, "Husband, I'm alright. It's just normal morning sickness."
Li Chenmo pressed his lips into a straight line. Even though he knew it was normal for a woman to feel nauseous during the first trister of pregnancy, he still couldn't help but wish he could endure the discomfort in her place.
After a while, the nausea finally subsided, and Lu Jueyu let out a sigh of relief. She finished the warm water and said, "Husband, I want to visit my second sister-in-law and her babies today."
Hearing this, Li Chenmo nodded and said, "I will take you to your parents' house before heading to the brigade office. Brother Jiang plans to leave tomorrow, and I need to help him get the travel permit today."
"Since we are asking for soone's help, you shouldn't go empty-handed," Lu Jueyu reminded him.
"I heard from Brother Zhang that the winter wheat seeds sent from the capital are of poor quality, and the production team exchanged the broken seeds with his. How about we offer so wheat seeds to the brigade?" Li Chenmo suggested.
Lu Jueyu thought for a mont and asked, "Husband, won't that bring trouble for us?"
Li Chenmo shook his head and said, "Many people know we went to the mountains and found wheat and vegetables there. Even if we take out the wheat from your space, they will assu we got it from the mountains."
"Since the seed quality affects next year's harvest, the brigade won't ask too many questions. So, you don't have to worry," he added.
Lu Jueyu looked at her husband, unsure of his intentions. Even if they didn't give seeds to the brigade, they could still help by providing the brigade with fertilizer. But since her husband had already made up his mind, all she needed to do was support him.
After thinking for a mont, she nodded and said, "Okay, I will listen to you."
The two of them entered her space to wash up and have a light breakfast before coming out. Most of the ti, it was Lu Jueyu who ate while Li Chenmo simply sat with her to accompany her eat.
When they went to the backyard, they saw Dong Li and Dong Huang already awake and washing up near the small pond.
Hearing footsteps, the two children turned around and saw their parents.
"Good morning, Father. Good morning, Mother," they greeted in unison.
Li Chenmo nodded at them and said, "Good morning."
While Lu Jueyu walked over, kissed her daughter's cheek, and patted her son's head before saying, "Good morning, Ah Li. Good morning, Xiao Huang."
"Mother will visit your grandfather and grandmother today. When you co back from school, just go there directly."
Hearing this, Dong Li and Dong Huang nodded and said, "Okay."
Since the piglet had grown up, Dong Li went to the pigpen to help while Dong Huang assisted her mother preparing breakfast.
As for watering the greenhouse, their parents had built sothing called a drip irrigation system using bamboo. The water source ca from a mountain spring connected to a water tank.
The water tank was placed on higher ground, allowing water to flow slowly, so they didn't have to water the greenhouse manually. At most, they only needed to check the bamboo for pest damage or clogging in the small holes used to drip the water.
With the watering system running automatically, they had more ti to focus on other tasks.
While Lu Jueyu and Dong Huang were preparing breakfast and snacks, Li Chenmo and Dong Li were digging a pit on the mountain.
At that mont, they had a total of ten pits for processing pig manure into fertilizer. With the piglet growing, the amount of manure also increased.
Despite the brigade coming to collect fertilizer every five days, the pits were no longer enough to store it. So, Li Chenmo decided to dig five more.
As they worked, Dong Li suddenly heard a thud from beneath the soil. He squatted down and cleared away the dirt. When he uncovered a wooden box, he said, "Father, look at what I found."
Hearing this, Li Chenmo walked over and asked, "Ah Li, what's wrong?"
By the ti he arrived, Dong Li had already dug out the box and was holding it in his hands. Seeing the intricate carvings on the wood, Li Chenmo imdiately recognized it as an antique.
Dong Li handed the box to his father and said, "Father, this was buried here. It's really heavy."
Li Chenmo pulled at the rusted lock, and it fell to the ground. Opening the box, he was stunned to find it filled with gold. From the patterns and shapes, it was clear that this gold had co from the Qing Dynasty before the revolution.
He closed the lid and said, "Ah Li, don't tell anyone about this matter."
"Father, I understand."
