While Lu Jueyu and Pan ijia were cooking another pot of Lotus Seed Egg Tea, the villagers who had co to join the Lin family's joyous day eagerly lined up, anticipating a taste of the Lotus seed egg tea.
At first, Aunt Lin was delighted to see so many people celebrating her niece—now daughter's—engagent ceremony or simply sharing in the happiness.
But as more and more people filled the yard, her smile was gradually replaced by worry. It was fine if they had enough food to share. However, the soup was left with less than half a pot by now.
Since the earlier villagers had received an egg, how could the latecors not complain if they only got soup and a few lotus seeds?
Fifteen minutes later, the pot was nearly empty, with only so lotus seeds and jujubes left at the bottom. Seeing this, a young boy cried out, "Mother, there are no more eggs! I want an egg! I want an egg!"
Hearing this, the villagers at the back beca unhappy. So stepped forward to look into the nearly empty pot.
One of them said, "Sister-in-law, we have been lining up for so long. You are not really going to tell us there is no more soup to share, are you?"
Aunt Lin wanted to tell them that her family hadn't hosted a banquet and had only planned to share wedding candies. Since they had co uninvited, it was already generous of her family to serve this pot of soup.
But when she saw their displeased expressions, she hesitated. If she said those words, bad rumors could spread and ruin her daughter's and family's reputations.
Just as she was caught in a dilemma, Lu Jueyu stepped out from the backyard and said, "Aunt Lin, could you ask two people to help bring out another pot of soup? It's hot and heavy, and my second sister-in-law and I can't carry it alone."
As soon as she spoke, several young n eagerly raised their hands, wanting to show off in front of the beauty.
"Comrade, I can help you," one of them offered.
Lu Jueyu smiled at them, but before she could choose, she saw her husband and her second brother-in-law walking over.
Noticing her husband's displeasure, she quickly said, "Husband, you are here! Co, help carry the soup out."
When Li Chenmo saw his wife's bright smile, the jealousy in his heart eased. He walked over and said, "Wife, you shouldn't tire yourself out. My second brother and I can handle this. You can go and take a rest."
"Okay," Lu Jueyu nodded but still followed him to the backyard.
With another pot of soup on the way, the villagers cald down. Aunt Lin quickly ladled the remaining soup into two bowls and handed them to the children.
Since supplies were limited, not everyone could receive an egg. The children were given lotus seeds and jujube, while the eggs were reserved for the adults.
Before long, Li Chenmo and Li Lingyun returned, carrying a pot even larger than the previous one, each holding one side.
This ti, they placed the pot on the ground. Seeing it filled to the brim, Aunt Lin wondered how many eggs Lu Jueyu had used and how much this soup had cost.
"Sister-in-law, give a bowl," a middle-aged woman said eagerly while handing over her big bowl.
Hearing her, Aunt Lin smiled and filled her bowl. She only gave her a ladle no matter how big the bowl was.
There were so many people, if she filled their bowls to the brim, even three more pots wouldn't be enough for them to share.
In the kitchen, Lu Jueyu scooped two bowls of soup and said, "Second brother, could you help deliver these to the newlyweds? They must be hungry by now."
Li Lingyun took the tray and nodded. "Okay."
Judging by the number of people outside, it seed they would need another pot. After so thought, Lu Jueyu said, "Second sister-in-law, have a bowl and take a break first."
Pan ijia, feeling hungry, didn't refuse. After filling a bowl, she went to the balcony to rest.
Once she left, Lu Jueyu took out another batch of ingredients and started cooking another pot of Lotus Seed Egg Tea. This ti, no matter what, she wouldn't make more.
Four big pots of soup were already more than enough to save the Lin family's face and show how much Jiang Ziyu cherished his newlywed wife. If she made any more, people would beco suspicious.
The hustle and bustle only died down as the sun slanted to the west. After the last pot was divided, Aunt Lin and Uncle Lin finally heaved a sigh of relief.
Neither of them had expected a supposedly simple engagent ceremony to have so many twists and turns. Thinking back, they realize everything started because of Lin ifeng's mother and brothers.
Once everything was cleaned up, Aunt Lin and Uncle Lin walked over to the Li family.
Holding Lu Jueyu's and Pan ijia's hands, Aunt Lin said, "Today, you all helped my Lin family so much. If not for you, I don't know what would have happened."
Hearing this, Pan ijia replied, "Aunt Lin, Brother Jiang is my husband's friend. Of course, we would co to help."
Lu Jueyu nodded and added, "Aunt Lin, my mother doesn't like going out and has only a few good friends. She would be happy to have you over for a chat. If you have free ti, please accompany her for a chat."
Aunt Lin smiled at her words and readily agreed. Mother Lu and her could be said to be childhood friends. It indeed has been a while since she last visited her friend.
"Once ifeng's matters are settled, I will definitely visit your mother. I heard Xiao Wang gave birth to twins—I must go see them as well."
"Then I will let my mother know," Lu Jueyu said with a smile.
After chatting for a while, they took their leave and returned ho.
