When he heard Lu Cheng's words, Li Chenmo said, "Second Brother, you don't have to hurry to return it. My wife and I will visit tomorrow."
"Okay, I will wait for you two then," Lu Cheng nodded.
After a brief conversation, he turned and left. Riding the bicycle, Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu reached their ho in less than ten minutes.
Once they entered the house, Li Chenmo disconnected the carts and stored them in the woodshed. When he ca out, he saw his wife already preparing the dried lotus seeds, dried jujube, yellow rock sugar, and eggs.
Walking over, he covered the bamboo basket with banana leaves and tied it with hemp rope. Then, he secured it on the front bar. As for the eggs, he placed them in the bicycle's basket.
Once they were ready, the two of them locked the door and headed back to Aunt Lin's house. Riding the bicycle, it only took them fifteen minutes to arrive.
Lu Jueyu quickly went to the kitchen and saw that Pan ijia had already lit the fire and was boiling a big pot of water. Seeing them return, she smiled and said, "Third sister-in-law, is there anything I can help you with?"
When Li Chenmo ca in with the bamboo baskets, Lu Jueyu said, "Second sister-in-law, please help boil the eggs. I have already washed them, so you can boil them directly."
Hearing this, Pan ijia nodded, poured so vinegar into the water, and added the eggs to the pot. While the eggs boiled, they washed the jujube and lotus seeds.
Six minutes later, Lu Jueyu scooped out the eggs and put them in a basin of cool water. Then she said, "Second sister-in-law, can you help peel the eggs?"
"Okay!" Pan ijia nodded and started to work.
At the sa ti, Lu Jueyu boiled another big pot of water. To cut down on cooking ti, she added so lake water from her space. When the water ca to a boil, she added the lotus seeds and cooked them until they softened.
Usually, to reach the preferred softness, she needed to cook the lotus seeds for 30 to 45 minutes. But with the addition of so lake water, it only took 15 minutes.
Then, she added the jujube and rock sugar and let it simr for another three minutes. As the rock sugar lted, the soup turned a golden hue.
"Third sister-in-law, here are the boiled eggs," Pan ijia said as she placed a basin of eggs on the kitchen table.
"Second sister-in-law, let's add the eggs now," Lu Jueyu replied.
The two of them added the boiled eggs to the soup and stirred it for a mont. Afterward, Pan ijia removed the firewood, leaving so embers on the stove to keep the soup warm.
Lu Jueyu used a spoon to scoop so lotus seeds and took a taste. The lotus seeds still held their shape, but when bitten, they lted in the mouth with a slightly sweet, pine-nutty flavor. The rock sugar added a llow sweetness to the soup, and the jujube was soft and fragrant.
This Lotus Seed Egg Tea not only carried a good aning and was delicious, but it also had health benefits.
Lotus seeds were known to calm the mind and help with insomnia. Jujube could expel dampness, nourish the blood, and promote relaxation. anwhile, rock sugar was cooling in nature and good for soothing the throat.
After tasting the soup, she nodded and said, "Second sister-in-law, the dish is ready."
Pan ijia swallowed when she slled the fragrant soup and said, "Third sister-in-law, this looks so beautiful and delicious."
Lu Jueyu smiled at her words and said, "I will give you the recipe later, along with so tips for preparation and cooking."
Since they were family now, Pan ijia no longer refused and readily agreed, "Thank you, Third sister-in-law!"
Just as they finished, Aunt Lin ca over and asked, "Jueyu, do you need any help?"
Lu Jueyu nodded and replied with a smile, "Aunt Lin, the dish is ready. Please help us serve it to the guests."
Aunt Lin, feeling grateful to her, readily agreed. Since their family didn't have enough bowls, the neighbors went ho to bring their own.
When they returned, they saw a big pot of soup placed on the balcony. Seeing the golden broth, one of them asked, "Jueyu, what is the na of this dish?"
"Aunt, this is Lotus Seed Egg Tea."
"Tea? Did you use tea leaves to make this soup?" the villager asked curiously.
"It's called tea because the color resembles tea, but there's no actual tea in it. The golden color cos from rock sugar," Lu Jueyu explained with a smile.
Upon hearing this, everyone was both surprised and delighted. It was rare for them to have a sweet treat, so when they learned that rock sugar had been added, they were eager to try it.
Lu Jueyu ladled out soup, giving each person a serving along with an egg.
They had expected only the soup, but when they saw the generous amount of jujube, lotus seeds, and the addition of an egg, they couldn't help but offer words of praise and blessings for the newlyweds.
After receiving their portions, they took their first sips and quickly beca imrsed in savoring the taste. Those who had family at ho hurried back to inform them to co over once they finished their soup.
As she continued serving, Lu Jueyu noticed that the amount of soup she had prepared might not be enough as more villagers were coming. She gestured to Aunt Lin to take over her task and went to the kitchen with Pan ijia.
Using the bamboo basket as a cover, she discreetly took out more eggs, jujube, rock sugar, and lotus seeds from her space. This ti, Pan ijia already knew what to do, so she lit the stove and boiled the eggs.
Since she was eager to learn, Lu Jueyu used this opportunity to teach her. She stood to the side to instruct her and let her sister-in-law do the work.
