My buddy Ayane and I activated our magical girl uniforms and decided on a simple plan. Ayane will knock out the mind-controlled man while I stay hidden in case the monster shows up, so I can spring into action.

"..." I hide in a corner on a balcony window while Ayane silently makes her way to the scene, avoiding being noticed by the man so she can quickly knock him out.

I just watch as Hexael suddenly jumps on my back without a sound.

"What do you want here?" I whisper softly so Ayane can’t hear.

"Just observing, hehehe," he says, laughing as he climbs up on the balcony railing and watches .

"The monster controlling that guy has already noticed you two and started running away. You’ll never find it~" he says in a whiny tone with a devilish grin.

"..."

"Looks like our plan worked out, huh? Feel stronger, don’t ya? And now Ayane has the experience of saving another life, just with you, which will boost her confidence and determination."

"Yeah..." I just say yes, watching the scene below as Ayane knocks the man unconscious with a simple blow and then casts her healing spell in case she hurt him. Hinata seems to have passed out.

"Doesn’t this scene excite you even a little bit?" he asks as he highlights Hinata, with torn clothes, drooling and letting out small moans as sen drips from her private areas.

"Not at all."

"How lantable. Honestly, you don’t find any of this fun unless it’s done by your beloved sister, but hey, it’s fine if that’s how you are. You still ca out on top, after all."

"The privileges are undeniable," Hexael says with a malicious chuckle, talking about privileges, and I really can’t deny that I’ve gotten stronger.

"Hexael, how does the mory erasing business work?" I question with so degree of interest, how specifically did Hinata forget this traumatic experience? And why don’t magical girls have their mories erased after suffering?

"Tsk, is that all I’m good for? Answering your boring questions?" he says, falsely pouting at the question.

"It’s pretty simple, obviously that angel takes care of it. It’s directly linked to the magic of the magical girls and occurs semi-automatically, so you don’t have to worry. Since Ayane is here, Hinata won’t rember anything."

"Just Ayane’s presence near a normal person triggers that preliminary check that activates if it’s noticed the person needs to forget. Of course, the mind may forget, but the body rembers."

"So girls, after being raped or tortured, developed phobias, fears, and paranoia, even without understanding why," he says, not very interested in the others.

"..."

’He ntioned Ayane, so I don’t have that benefit.’ It’s a problem to think about for the future, but for now, it’s all good.

Also, it’s interesting to know that the body rembers what happened even if the mories are lost, and the reason it’s interesting is that it shows the angel’s powers are limited.

In other words, Hexael’s power is also limited. Maybe I’ve been putting them on a grandeur scale that doesn’t exist. They’re strong, but not as far above as I previously imagined.

I pull out my phone and inform the magical girl base that we’ve saved soone and there’s possibly a monster nearby, so they can send soone to help with the two affected civilians.

"I think I’ve figured out how to do so bullying at school, Hexael," I say to him, jumping down from here to where Ayane is confused about what to do to hide Hinata’s partial nudity.

"Ayane, I’ve already called for help, but I didn’t find any monsters around, I think it ran away," I say, pretending to have done anything, when I just waited for her to be able to save Hinata alone and gain confidence.

"Okay..." Ayane seems sad, but she no longer has that cowardly tremor she showed the first few tis.

"Don’t be sad, Ayane," I say, hugging her from behind to cheer her up.

"We all have difficulties. She just got unlucky. We all have problems we need to deal with. Courage doesn’t an not being afraid. Courage ans doing sothing even when you’re afraid."

"Don’t let discomfort or sadness affect you. Feeling those things is what makes you unique, but you shouldn’t let negative feelings dominate you," I tell her as she moves away from my embrace.

"...?"

"Thank you," she just gives a bright smile that makes blush.

"I know it must be hard for you to touch . Thank you for comforting ," she says as she crouches down to check on Hinata more closely, now with more courage.

’So she moved away from out of consideration...’ That’s kind of touching. I didn’t think she would think so far ahead for .

"She seems okay... no injuries," Ayane murmurs, looking at Hinata’s body with obvious embarrassnt, but searching for injuries.

"Ayane, you can let do this if you can’t," I say, approaching and crouching next to her.

"No need. I need to have the courage. If she’s hurt, I need to heal her to at least ensure she doesn’t suffer anymore," Ayane says with certainty in her voice, without those tremors or nervous stuttering.

"Yes... but you shouldn’t touch her. If she’s injured, touching her could make it worse..." I know she’s not injured, touching her is useless, and wasting ti checking for non-existent injuries is also a waste of ti.

"You’re right..." Ayane stops when we both feel other presences. Soon, two magical girls arrive.

"We’ve co to the rescue of the two affected civilians," one of them says in a professional voice as she quickly crouches down, picks up Hinata in her arms, and starts running with her.

We feel magic, and notice that Hinata’s body isn’t trembling, almost as if it’s static and ignoring the movent. The other magical girl just looks at us, nods, checks the man, and picks him up as well.

"...You did a good job. No serious injuries besides unconsciousness," she says and quickly leaves. They’re from the dical team, so they’ll take the two to check if there are no issues.

"Looks like that’s it for tonight. Want to go ho, Ayane?"

"Yes... I think it’s better we go back for today and rest..."

"..."

"Don’t feel guilty. It was just a study group. Bad unexpected things can always happen," I say to her so she doesn’t bla herself.

"It was my mistake with the address, and my idea to study together, so don’t think too much about this incident," I say, walking with her through the cold streets.

"Haa... yes, it’s not your fault either. It was just, as you said, a bad coincidence that could happen to anyone. It’s just sad to know that anything outside of ho may not be safe."

"Why do monsters even exist?" She raises a really curious and interesting question. Why do these things exist? I don’t have the answer, and many don’t know either, and those who do, don’t tell.

"Yes... why do they exist..." I just murmur as we walk in silence. She seems thoughtful.

"Setsuna, do you think monsters will ever stop hurting people?" She asks , and I think.

"No." It’s obvious they won’t stop. I don’t know why they do evil, but it’s almost an unchangeable pattern that they can’t stop and don’t even try to stop.

"...Setsuna, you’re a genius. What would we need to do to make them stop doing these evil things?" She asks seriously, her face determined to know the answer.

"Ayane doesn’t need to be a genius to arrive at that answer. The only way would be for them to stop existing. It’s clear they just do harm without caring about good. So the answer would be to beco strong enough that alone you could exterminate all of them and protect everyone in the world," I say logically.

But being logical doesn’t an it’s possible. It’s simply impossible for us to be strong enough to accomplish a feat of that magnitude.

"Then I swear! I swear I’ll get strong enough to prevent more people from getting hurt by monsters!" She speaks with a determination I never thought I’d see in her again.

"..." And imdiately I notice how much stronger she seems. It looks like having a goal has helped her.

"Then I swear I’ll help you with that," I say with a smile, and she also gains a big smile on her face as she nods.

The rest of the way, we follow in silence, but it’s not an uncomfortable silence. It’s just a calm silence, without that sad atmosphere.

Unfortunately, I know this promise is unlikely to be realized. I’m realistic. What are the chances of either of us having the strength to exterminate all the monsters in the world?

And even if, in an infinitely distant possibility, that happened, one of us would be left behind. My only goal is Ayane’s safety and happiness. I don’t care about the rest.

So I don’t seek absolute power or to eradicate all the evil in the world. I just seek to have the strength to protect her from the dangers that arise in her path.

But who knows, maybe this could happen, right? Ayane’s power increases with her determination. Maybe one day she’ll acquire such great determination that her power will increase to the point where she can get what she wants.

I’d like to see that. Her strong enough so that nothing is a threat to her. If that were possible, it would be great, I think.

I can’t imagine that happening. If it did, I wouldn’t need to protect her anymore. That makes think, if such a thing were to happen, what would beco of ? And what should I do?
