Badisharsh.ThereareprosandconstoforeignandEnglishauthors.Traditionalwebnovelistsgetpaidbythechapter,havebarelyanyroomforspacing,andneedtobeconstantlywritingtoberelevant.Thisalsogenerallymeansthatstoriesaredrawnout,fairlybasic,cliche,andnoparticularlywell-written.Obviouslytherearegemsandstoriesthatbreakthismold,butthisisgenerallywhatIsee.Theyalsoconsistentlydelivereasilydigestibleentertainmentforyearsonend-solikeIsaid,prosandcons.Englishwebnovelwriters,especiallyRRwriters,traditionallystartoutwritingforfun.Theydon’tmakeanymoney,theydon’thavearesponsibilitytoputoutchapters,noguidelinesonlength/plot/consistencybeyondwhattheythinkisbest.Becauseofthis,you’dusuallyendupwithbetterwriting,uniqueplots,properstorystructure,etc.Theconsareobvious,sincetheyhavenoskininthegame,theycanandwilldropstorieswithnowarningforanyreason.Theygotbored,tiredofdealingwithreaderrage,orlifejustchangedcircumstances.Now,thishasbeenchangingforRRwriters.Modernday,peoplehaverealizedyoucanmakemoneyoffwriting,soit’sbecausemoreofanindustryinwhichtherearetwotypesofauthors.Amazonpublishingorpatreonbased.Amazonauthorstendtowritetheirbook(200-300pgstandard)thenpublishonechapteradayonRRtillit’sfullyup.Thisattractsabunchofreaderswhobecomefans.Whileputtingupbk1theyarewritingbook2.Theythentakedownbook1andpublishitonAmazon-soyouhavetobuyit,whilepostingbook2onechapteratatimeonRR.Rinseandrepeat.ThismeansthatthestorywillstayhighonRRchartssinceit’llbeconsistentwriting,butanyonecominginlatewhowantstoreadhastobuythepreviousbookstocatchup.Thiscanbegoodifyoucatchthemwhiletheyarestillonbook1andyoucanreadeverythingforfree.Butitsucksotherwise.Patreonbasedauthorsstartedaspeoplewhoenjoyedwritingandwrotealot,andsimplyletpeoplewhowantedtoreadaheadpayalittlebitamonthtokeepaheadofthepublicchapters.Nowadays,it’smorestreamlined.TobepopularonRRthemainthingnewauthorsneedisaconsistentuploadschedule,toachievethisanauthorwillhaveascheduleoflet’ssay3chaptersaweekMon,Wed,Fri.Throughouttheweektheywrite5chapters,leavingthem2aheadofschedule,meaningthatnextweektheyonlyneedtowriteonechaptertostayonscheduleor3tostayahead.Iftheystayaheadtheycanletpeoplepaythemonpatreontoreadthoseextrachapters(calleda“backlog”).Now,theserulesdon’tapplytowellestablishedauthorsonRR,orpeoplewhodoitasaside-hustle.ThisisbecauseRRreaders,especiallyreaderswhoreallypreferLitRPG,areessentiallygutterratswhowilleatupanythingthat’sofferedtothem.Thatmeansthatanauthorcanandwilldropoffthegridforyears,nocontent,andwhentheypopbackupallofusreaderswillberightbackthere,eatingupthescrapstheythroughdown.
