Rain recalled the books that he read on school and Esralda recalled them as well, so they used them as examples to simplify and create the curriculum for those people. They didn't have five years to learn everything, but learning all that would increase their chances of succeeding on the mission, so they would learn faster out of necessity.
In the end, Rain proposed the idea of creating so large workshops for those places in order to make the people that stand out motivate each other and share their findings with the others.
