I look around Shadowfall City in awe. The city is not too different from Vermillion City, the biggest city in the Vortigern Duchy, and it is smaller than Vermillion City. However, what makes Shadowfall City different is the aura it releases.
In recent years, Vermillion City has gotten gloomier and gloomier by the day. The previous majestic sight disappears and is replaced by a depressing sight. I don’t know if Vermillion City still stands with that many monsters coming, but I will trust Harris, my surrogate uncle, to hold down the fort for now.
"My lady, are you sure we should do this?"
I look at Natalie as we walk through the city of Shadowfall and say.
"Sadly, this is the only way, Natalie. You already see how the other kingdoms treat us when we ask for help."
We have been asking for help from two kingdoms to the north and east of the Vortigern Duchy. There are two kingdoms we go through before we visit the Gipan Kingdom. The first is the Jukar Kingdom, and the second is the Bertran Kingdom.
The reason why they are rejecting my proposal? Gokuya Kingdom is their sworn enemy, and so of the Vermillion Duchy is the forr territory of Bertran Kingdom. I understand why they did not want to have any involvent with the Vortigern Duchy.
If not for the monster coming to their territory, they will mobilize their army and attack the Vortigern Territory.
The only place that did not have hatred toward us was the Gipan Kingdom. Not because the Gokuya Kingdom did not attack them but rather because only the Southern part of the Gipan Kingdom experienced it. However, that is terrible news for because we need the people from the Southern Gipan Kingdom to help us.
Combining it with my father taking the left arm of the heir of the Southern Commander, I understand why they rejected my proposal. However, I cannot give up just yet. My people need , and I will bring them soone who can help us.
"My lady, don’t you think there is sothing wrong here? Not a bad thing, but by the look of it, the people are celebrating sothing."
I look around and nod my head. Natalie is right. There are many purple clothes hanging on the civilian’s ho. I can also have all the food stalls have a purple flag on top of their food stall. I walk to the nearby person and say.
"Excuse . Can I ask if there is a festival going on?"
"Hmmm? Oh, this is not a festival. We are just celebrating and praying for the young lord."
"Huh? Is sothing happening to the young lord?"
"Oh! Nothing like that. We are only celebrating the betrothal between young lord Gwyndolin and young lady Silvanna."
"Ah, I see."
I slowly walk back and sit on the nearby bench. Dammit! It looks like I’m too late, and now I cannot get to use my plan. I see Natalie sit next to and say.
"What should we do now, my lady? Should we go back? Or should we search for a rcenary group?"
I shake my head and say.
"That will not work. There is not a single rcenary who wants to work with us. Even when we offer them a large amount of money, they will not accept it. They did not want their rcenary group to be tainted because they were working with a kingdom that was allying themselves with the monsters."
I say that in a low voice while rubbing my temple.
"The one who is willing is the sketchy rcenary group. The one who did not have a good reputation among the other rcenaries. The one that is always running away, the one attacking their employer, and the one taking the money and running away."
I take a deep breath and say.
"We will still use this plan. I will seduce him and secure the second wife title to ensure he sends us help."
"You know... If you want to ask for help, you can just ask. You don’t need to try and seduce ."
I widen my eyes and see a man and woman standing not too far away from . The young man talking to has silver hair and silver eyes. I look to his left arm and wince a little at the sight of a tal arm.
Ah... So Gwyndolin hears what we are discussing.
"How much do you hear?"
"Enough to take pity. Co on. We will have a talk in a more private place."
I look at him for a few seconds and release a tired sigh. I turn to Natalie, who prepares to take out her hidden weapon. I put my hand on her shoulder and shook my head. I look at Gwyndolin and nod.
"Thank you for hearing my plea."
"I have yet to hear it. You don’t need to thank . Anyway, co on."
Gwyndolin leads us to the edge of the city. I can see a small garden with a guard in front of it. I can see Gwyndolin nodding and the guard letting us enter. We walk to the gazebo sitting next to a bed of flowers. He lets Natalie, and I sit on the chair while he takes out a basket full of food by the sll of it.
He takes out four glasses and puts his hand inside the black circular energy to take out a teapot, just like how he takes out the basket. I blink for a second as he pours the tea one by one before sitting next to the woman in a beautiful black dress.
After Gwyndolin sits, he offers a smile to the two of us and says.
"So, what can I do for you? To the point of you wanting to seduce ."
I look at him for a few seconds and say.
"We need your help."
"What kind of help?"
"As you know, because of our king’s order, the Gokuya Kingdom decided to ally with the monsters. However, just like playing with fire, it will burn you if you are not careful. The king is going mad and uses thousands of people as a sacrifice to create the biggest Void Crack in history."
"I already know about all that."
"I’m sorry. Let go to the point, then. I need your help in defeating the monsters coming to Vortigern Territory."
"And why should I help you with that problem? Isn’t the Monster Outbreak the result of your kingdom’s decision?"
"You are correct, and I will not say otherwise. However, I want to fix this problem. Sadly, I must protect my people before fixing the Gokuya Kingdom."
"And that is where I co in, huh?"
"Yes. We need your power, young master Gwyndolin. I’m willing to give you anything. Money? Territory? Or even ? I’m willing to give it all. As long as you help my people, I’m willing to give it all."
As a noble, it is my duty to protect them because that is what my father taught and always planted inside my head. The people already lost their trust in the noble house because of that mad and stupid king.
The people need soone who can get them out of the darkness. Even when it was not , I would make sure to get that person. The man in front of is the one who can help . Harris has told about Gwyndolin, the Life Giver and Master Sorcerer.
He is soone who can change the outco of a battle with his presence alone. He can prevent anyone from dying and summon massive creatures that devastate the battlefield. As long as I can get his aid, Vortigern Duchy will be saved.
"And once again, why should I do that? As I said before, your kingdom is the one declaring war against us in the first place. Your kingdom is the one using monsters to kill us all. Lastly, it is your father who took away my left arm."
He looks at directly in the eyes and says.
"So, why should I do that?"
I look at him for a few seconds before releasing a defeated sigh.
"No. You did not need to do that. You did not get anything from this. You only put your life in line to help the enemy. Your people will question you for helping us, and you do not know if there is soone in my kingdom who wants you dead and is trying so dirty trick."
I prepare to leave, but Gwyn’s voice stops .
"And where do you think you are going?"
"Is there anything you want to talk about? You already said your piece, and now it is ti for to return back to my people and try to protect them myself."
"I never said that I did not want to help."
"What?"
"I only say that I cannot co with you. I can help you in other ways."
He smiles, puts his hand inside that black circular, and removes sothing before putting it on the table.
"I will give you this."
