Chapter 714: Chapter 713

Lewis Horton’s face stiffened.

He glanced at Old Mrs. Horton, but she was looking at Oliver Horton and Nathan Horton, not sparing him a single glance.

Lewis clenched his jaw tightly.

Balling his fists, he tentatively called out, “Grandma…”

Old Mrs. Horton still showed no reaction.

Oliver Horton then spoke up, “Lewis, Grandma might not rember you right now, so why don’t you leave for now? Too many people in the room slow down the airflow. You should step out first.”

This made Kiera furrow her brows. She wanted to say sothing but, looking at Old Mrs. Horton, decided to hold her tongue.

Lewis had already turned and was striding away.

Kiera knew Lewis didn’t want to argue with those people in front of Grandma, so she imdiately followed him out.

Before leaving the room, she glanced back.

Old Mrs. Horton was holding Nathan’s hand, cheerfully chatting with Oliver, completely unaware that they had left the room.

Kiera took a deep breath. Stepping outside, she saw Lewis had already gone to the balcony.

She hurried over and saw Lewis reach into his pocket, pull out a cigarette, and light it.

This man hadn’t been much of a smoker since Kiera had t him.

But now, had he beco this irritable?

Kiera walked up beside him.

Lewis imdiately extinguished the cigarette and took a deep breath. “Grandma has always doted on since I was young. She used to say I was her only grandson, and she didn’t recognize the ones outside.”

Kiera paused slightly.

Lewis laughed, “I never understood why Grandma didn’t acknowledge Oliver. He’s her grandson too. Did he do sothing unforgivable? Only later did I realize it wasn’t that she didn’t recognize him… She didn’t dare. She was afraid that if she gave her affection to Oliver, there’d be less left for .”

Kiera clenched her jaw.

At that mont, laughter erupted from inside the room.

Oliver called out exaggeratedly, “Grandma, you finally rembered ? And do you know who this is? My wife, Marisa Walsh… And this is your great-granddaughter, Selena Horton!”

Old Mrs. Horton: “Oh, the granddaughter-in-law!”

Marisa imdiately nodded. “I’m here, Grandma…”

Nathan chuckled, “Mom, you need to rember—this is your grandson. Don’t keep holding soone else in your heart and mind!”

Soone else…

To Nathan Horton, Lewis was just “soone else.”

How utterly ridiculous!

At that mont, Kiera felt a surge of pity for him and instinctively took his hand.

When Kiera held his hand, Lewis imdiately tightened his grip in return. Smiling faintly, he said, “Did you see that? In this family—no, I should say when I was a child—I had only one family mber.”

The only one who cared for him was Grandma…

Kiera leaned her head against his shoulder and softly said, “From now on, you’ll always have .”

Lewis didn’t speak for a long while.

The two of them stood silently by the window, gazing out at the scenery of the Horton Group estate, watching as servants bustled back and forth.

Ti passed, and the room finally fell quiet.

Nathan and Oliver walked out of Old Mrs. Horton’s sickroom. Oliver spotted Lewis imdiately and said to Marisa and Selena, “You two stay here with Old Mrs. Horton. Don’t let irrelevant people or strangers Grandma doesn’t want to see co in.”

Marisa had been accompanying Old Mrs. Horton the entire day and was already exhausted, but upon hearing this, she stopped imdiately and replied with a smile, “Alright.”

Only then did Oliver glance provocatively at Lewis before walking over.

Oliver smirked, “Lewis, you wouldn’t be jealous, would you? After all, you monopolized Grandma for over twenty years. Now, finally, we get the chance to be filial too…”

At those words, Nathan snorted, “What would he be jealous of? He rarely cos ho, which is why Grandma doesn’t rember him anymore. If anyone’s to bla, it’s him for not being filial enough! The old lady hasn’t forgotten anyone else—just him!”

When Nathan finished, Oliver chid in, “Dad, don’t you think we need to draft a new will? Grandma’s condition is pretty dire…”

That sentence made Lewis instantly furious. He stepped forward, grabbed Oliver by the collar, and shouted, “What will?! Grandma is fine!”

Oliver was imdiately startled. “Let go of !”

Nathan roared as well, “Lewis! What are you doing? What’s the matter? Are you afraid? Afraid Grandma will share her shares with us? Let tell you, that’s how it should be! I’m Grandma’s only son, and you, as her grandson, have no inheritance rights! I’m her rightful heir!”

Seeing this, Lewis frowned deeply. After a mont, he laughed coldly and released Oliver’s collar.

Then, turning toward Nathan, he said, “Grandma’s shares, take them however you like. But I warn you, in her remaining ti, you are not to upset her!”

Nathan was montarily intimidated by his son but ultimately snorted. “Don’t act all filial here. Even if you put on this show, what does it matter? Old Mrs. Horton doesn’t even recognize you! She only recognizes ! Let tell you, without , there wouldn’t be you! You think Grandma loves you? She loves you because you’re my son! What are you strutting around for?”

With that, he clasped his hands behind his back and strolled out casually.

Oliver, however, glared at Lewis, feeling humiliated. After all, he was twelve years older than Lewis, yet he was threatened by his younger brother in front of Kiera and Marisa. Desperate to regain his dignity, he sneered and said, “Lewis, I understand how you feel. But Grandma only recognizes us now. Isn’t there nothing you can do about it? Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of Grandma! As for you—you’re always so busy, aren’t you? Moving forward, maybe it’s best you don’t show up here anymore!”

With that final remark, Oliver turned and left.

After he walked away, Lewis took a deep breath, suppressing the anger in his chest.

Kiera looked at Lewis and softly said, “Don’t be upset.”

“I’m not upset,” Lewis replied coolly.

Kiera continued to console him, “Grandma cares about you in her heart. The way she is now might be for another reason… Maybe she doesn’t want you to be too sad when she’s gone…”

Lewis lowered his gaze, his arms slack, and his entire deanor was one of utter helplessness.

He looked like a stray puppy, abandoned and lost.

Kiera couldn’t bear to watch any longer. She stepped forward and held his hand. “Lewis, there’s sothing I need to tell you. I can’t keep it from you anymore. Actually, Grandma…”
