Chapter 715: Chapter 714

Kiera paused for a mont.

She finally made up her mind and said directly, “Actually, Grandma hasn’t forgotten you… My dicine works really well, she…”

“I know.”

Lewis responded with those three words, cutting Kiera off mid-sentence, leaving her slightly stunned.

“You know?”

“Yeah.” Lewis lowered his head and gave a bitter smile, “Don’t you rember? Grandma used to have Alzheir’s. Every ti she had an episode, the only person she would recognize was . She once said she would never forget .”

Kiera froze in place.

Instinctively, Lewis reached into his pocket, wanting to light a cigarette, but he paused and withdrew his hand. He looked out the window at the dark clouds in the distance.

His voice was low, as if it ca from a faraway place. He continued, “How could Grandma ever forget her most beloved grandson? She even rembers Oliver… So, just as you said, she’s afraid that I can’t handle the reality of her leaving, so she’s pretending not to recognize on purpose. She wants to make sad and numb. Maybe that way, when she’s gone, it won’t hurt as much.”

Kiera grasped the aning of his words. She held Lewis’s hand, her eyes turning red.

She had never imagined that Grandma’s love for Lewis ran this deep, and that Lewis’s trust in Grandma was equally profound…

She looked at Lewis. “Then… what will you do next?”

“Go along with her.”

Lewis lowered his gaze. “I can’t let Grandma leave with any lingering worries. Even at a ti like this, she’s still concerned about . How could I let her worry? Kiera, starting tomorrow, let’s try to be happy.”

Kiera’s throat caught, but she quickly nodded. “Okay.”

Lewis took hold of her hand.

That night, the two of them held each other as they slept.

But in the middle of the night, Kiera was woken up by Lewis. In his half-conscious state, he called out “Grandma” several tis before waking up.

Then he suddenly threw off the covers, went downstairs, and entered Old Mrs. Horton’s bedroom. He checked her breathing before finally returning to the bedroom at ease.

Kiera watched him and silently sighed.

Grandma’s ti was truly running out.

Her sudden collapse earlier that day was a sign.

The next morning, when Kiera woke up, Lewis was still asleep. She didn’t wake him but left the room on her own.

Last night, after being startled awake and checking on Grandma, he hadn’t been able to fall back asleep. He had only just dozed off around dawn, so she wanted to let him rest a little longer.

Kiera went downstairs and saw Old Mrs. Horton being helped down the stairs by Fiona. At the mont, she was having a al with the assistance of Marisa and Selena.

Kiera walked over, but before she could speak, Marisa smiled and said, “Miss Olsen, the old Mrs. Horton wants to eat the food you make. At noon, we’ll have to trouble you for that.”

Kiera paused slightly at those words and looked at Old Mrs. Horton.

Her face was all smiles, but a fleeting sharpness passed through her eyes.

Old Mrs. Horton probably didn’t want her to feel wronged, so before she could say anything, Kiera directly said, “Okay. I’ll have it ready by noon.”

Old Mrs. Horton had always liked Kiera’s cooking. During this final stretch of ti, how could Kiera not take care of her properly?

Even if it ant being ordered around by Marisa, so what?

After all, the one eating was Old Mrs. Horton…

With that thought, Kiera entered the kitchen. She overheard Selena asking Old Mrs. Horton, “Great Grandmother, do you know who she is?”

Old Mrs. Horton paused for a mont before answering, “I don’t know.”

“She’s the new maid at the house.”

Selena’s words made Kiera curl her lips upward slightly.

If they wanted to treat her like a maid, they’d better be up to the task!

Still, she didn’t feel like arguing with the two of them right now. Kiera entered the kitchen and saw Fiona with reddened eyes. Fiona, upon seeing Kiera, imdiately said, “Miss Olsen, don’t take it to heart. Old Mrs. Horton just doesn’t recognize you anymore.”

Kiera patted her on the shoulder. “I’m fine, and so is Lewis. Fiona, don’t worry.”

Fiona’s eyes reddened further.

She didn’t know that Old Mrs. Horton was pretending and thought she genuinely didn’t recognize them anymore. Worried that Kiera and Lewis would feel upset, Fiona had co over to console her.

Kiera sighed quietly.

Just then, an exclamation suddenly sounded from outside. This was imdiately followed by Marisa and Selena’s exaggerated, startled voices. Kiera rushed out and saw Old Mrs. Horton vomiting up what she had just eaten, covering the two of them in it.

After she finished throwing up, Old Mrs. Horton looked at Marisa and Selena and said, “Granddaughter-in-law, great-granddaughter, I’m so sorry, I couldn’t help it.”

Marisa and Selena stared at their soiled clothes in disgust, glaring angrily at Old Mrs. Horton. But as soon as they looked at her, they had to swallow their feelings and hold back their anger.

Marisa took a deep breath. “We’ll just go change clothes and co back later.”
