Chapter 1968: Chapter 1962: Going Awry
“Is this what a true Extraordinary is like? Completely unchanged from back then…uh, but clearly healthier now…”
Encountering an old friend, Zhao Xinxin was sowhat delighted, but mostly felt nostalgic.
“…But if you didn’t look like you did in the past, I wouldn’t have recognized you. After all, it’s been over ten years.”
“Class Leader, you’re still as young as ever.”
Lu Ping’an smiled, offering a friendly response.
“Friend ow? Girlfriend ow? Older sister ow? Mom…ow-oo!!”
Lu Ping’an withdrew his hand, punishing the mischievous ow.
Upon eting again, Lu Ping’an actually spent a lot of ti digging out the mory of Class Leader Zhao from the depths of his mind.
Because this mory didn’t originate from over ten years ago, but from decades ago….
“You didn’t co to any of the middle school reunions…I heard you were busy?”
“Yeah, very busy, extrely busy. I just got back from outer space.”
When Lu Ping’an reincarnated into this world, he was already in his senior year of high school. He never had any experiences with middle school classmates, and even the past he unearthed was mostly ambiguous.
So people were just like in his previous life, while others were entirely different due to the different tiline.
The woman in front of him was no exception.
“I rember you were like , coming from a rural area in the suburbs of the ancient city, and now you’re working around here?”
“…I’m a local. Really, it’s a bit heartbreaking.”
“Heh, just kidding. You live right across from the middle school back then, the little landlady collecting rent…”
Lu Ping’an felt a bit nostalgic, referring to the Class Leader in his mory, who was once his childhood sweetheart…as ow’s radar sensed, rely under the level of friendship, or rather, at a level unlikely to ever beco a girlfriend.
In Lu Ping’an’s previous life tiline, both ca from rural backgrounds and were considered the urban generation. Their relationship was indeed quite good, with an excellent rapport due to similar starting points and shared ambition and efforts, but Lu soon beca overly pragmatic, quickly chasing after money and earning quite a bad reputation.
Class Leader Zhao, on the other hand, continued her studies and reportedly developed in the capital, attended a prestigious university, and seed to have beco a high-level official, making her quite famous among classmates…while Lu’s reputation was mostly bad news.
Yet the Class Leader in front of him was quite subtle…Lu Ping’an could see she was dressed rather plainly, and appeared exhausted, having just gotten off work.
From what he knew, this Class Leader’s family was much better off than the previous one; she was the little landlady among classmates back then, but seemingly not doing as well now.
“Just got off work?”
“Uh, it’s Saturday…” The woman was a bit speechless, as the person in front of her clearly seed like soone who didn’t work.
“So, going out for fun?”
“No, working overti…”
“Pfft.” The ow on his head chuckled directly, impolitely, and Lu Ping’an grabbed a pawful of tail fur again.
Her laughter startled Zhao Xinxin across from him.
Lu Ping’an casually waved, pulling ow out of the void.
“Say hello.”
“Hello ow!”
“Hello…” The woman was startled, as just a mont ago no one was there, yet a Catwoman suddenly appeared, giving the sense she had been there all along.
Lu Ping’an didn’t explain; to outsiders, he was the only one visible…accurately saying, unless soone “knew” Lu Ping’an, they wouldn’t be able to sense these two.
This wasn’t so secret art but rather “God doesn’t want you to notice It, so you don’t see It.”
ow was another matter; her ability had reached the concept of “voidification.” As long as she didn’t actively reveal her presence, not only would people be unable to perceive her, but they’d pass through even upon contact.
“Your wife?” pointing at the Cat on his head, the old classmate smiled.
“My pet. Give a ow.”
Then, Lu Ping’an got a cat headbutt.
The little interlude passed quickly, and since one was coming off work and the other not working…at least both were quite free, and seed in the mood for conversation, Lu Ping’an promptly invited her to dinner.
They picked a barbecue place, eating and chatting while reminiscing about the joys of middle school life, and the woman laughed happily.
“You’re mistaken again…hmph, the student council mber wasn’t Zhu Xizhen, it was Su Nan’an, who loved tattling the most. It’s strange how you rember those inconspicuous nerds perfectly, yet get the most active ones wrong.”
Lu Ping’an’s mory was apparently unreliable, but surprisingly, he wanted to talk about the past, as it was filled with a life and mories as a “human.”
anwhile, ow was happily feasting…even the staff occasionally looked over, worried that this ow might eat herself to death.
Now, if she wanted to eat, finishing a barbecue store’s supply would be no problem at all.
“What are you busy with now? Where do you work?”
It was only natural to ask these questions.
And Lu, wasn’t surprised at her lack of understanding regarding him.
Because most people wouldn’t bother knowing who their mayor or provincial governor was…Lu Ping’an spent most of his ti outside the domain, and even if he was quite active during the war, appearing on the news was just a na, and those without knowledge in this area would likely assu it was just soone with the sa na.
Class Leader Zhao graduated from a local university and works at a local developnt zone company, with fairly average salary and benefits.
“Uh, sounds tough…why didn’t you continue being a landlady? Wasn’t your goal back then to buy up the entire street?”
“Hah, I went bankrupt. My old man squandered the money with reckless investnts, like playing with military-industrial stocks back in the day.”
This self-mocking remark left Lu Ping’an at a loss for what to say.
With a light laughter, he shifted the conversation to other classmates, only ntioning that he was employed at a (his own) Proper God Church company, and the work was fairly relaxed.
Lu Ping’an even casually shared so Explorer jokes to liven the mood.
The other party didn’t seem in the mood, laughing with so reluctance…Lu Ping’an switched topics again, ntioning the developnt in the ancient city over the years.
He was genuinely curious about the local people’s direct living conditions.
“Depends on the person. Those doing well get hired by big companies as executives, those not doing well end up like , working for aliens…” The woman now seed to be working for a small owner, who was a military-industrial supplier.
The compensation was decent, but there was a lot of overti, considering her family’s bankruptcy, it was already a respectable and well-paying job.
The conversation kept going, and ti flew by, and soon it was ti to go ho in the evening. Lu Ping’an chivalrously helped her hail a cab.
After seeing off the old classmate, observing the increasingly crowded street as night fell, Lu Ping’an sighed.
“ow, she wanted to kill you, attempted poisoning several tis, but didn’t act.”
“I know.”
“Why ow? Cri of passion ow? But I didn’t pick up any scent ow.”
“Demon Resistance Organization…a core extremist mber, I could sll the touch of the Outer Gods. Hah, borrowing the powers of Outer Gods to eradicate this world’s Extraordinary, she has several unjust spirits on her conscience, probably three to five. But this ti she hesitated, didn’t act on an old classmate.”
Lu Ping’an sighed, sowhat affected, realizing that his previous life had gone astray, yet seemingly in this life, it was her who had taken the wrong path.
“ow, you plan to let her go? That’s not your style ow!” ow wagged her tail, appearing sowhat surprised.
“I’ve already called the police, she should have been caught by now.” Lu Ping’an still remained as calm as ever.
“ow-oo! Indeed a BOSS, cold-blooded, petty, tight-fisted, rigid tal straight man…ow-ooo! I told you not to pull my tail!”
