After Florian managed to calm Scarlett down, she had passed out completely. Fortunately—well, for the first ti, Florian actually felt fortunate—Lancelot had followed him. Without hesitation, Florian handed Scarlett’s unconscious body to him.

"Take her back to her room," he instructed.

Lancelot nodded but hesitated for a mont. "Oh, my prince, His Majesty has asked you to rest for now. He wishes to et with you tonight in the garden."

’My prince.’ Florian’s thoughts lingered on the title. ’He’s been calling that for days now... and it still bothers .’

"Did he ntion why?" Florian asked, still struggling with the awkwardness between them ever since he realized that Lancelot was attracted to him.

Lancelot rely shrugged. "He didn’t, but I assu it’s to discuss the results."

"Oh. Alright."

That ant only one thing—it was ti for Florian to decide. Ti to choose the winner among the princesses.

Returning to his room, he lay on his bed, intending to think things through, but his mind refused to cooperate. The image of Scarlett’s broken state haunted him, leaving him frozen, staring at the wall. He wasn’t sure what he felt—his thoughts were a void, his body unmoving. Perhaps it was exhaustion.

He didn’t even realize how much ti had passed until Cashew inford him it was ti to et Heinz in the garden.

And now, here he was.

Walking through the garden, approaching Heinz.

The night air was crisp, cooler than he expected. It was his first ti stepping outside at night, and he was taken aback by what he saw. Glowing flowers illuminated the paths in soft blues and purples. Small creatures with luminous wings flitted between branches, while tiny, glowing ants scurried along the ground, leaving behind trails of light.

And the stars—oh, the stars were breathtaking.

’The night sky here is absolutely beautiful.’

As he neared Heinz, he bowed his head out of courtesy. But his gaze flickered toward the center of the garden, where a tea set and an array of small snacks had been arranged atop a table. It looked oddly familiar—almost identical to the setup the princesses had used during their tests.

Curious, Florian spoke first. "Your Majesty, why are these here?"

Heinz, standing with his hands clasped behind his back, tilted his head slightly. "There is still one last person I need to test."

Florian frowned. "Huh? Who? Did we... miss soone?"

As far as he knew, there were only six princesses. Who else was left?

Then Heinz’s eyes locked onto his. The realization hit Florian like a punch to the gut.

"Do you an ?"

Heinz nodded. "Yes."

"But... I’m not a candidate for queen. Why do you need to test ?"

"You’re still part of my harem."

Florian stiffened. "But... I’m not really Florian."

"Still doesn’t change the fact that the body you inhabit is part of my harem," Heinz replied smoothly, gesturing to the tea set. "Co on. Humor ."

’Humor him?’ Florian suppressed the urge to scoff. ’Haven’t I humored him enough by going through these tests in the first place?’

But he exhaled sharply, resigned, and stepped toward the table. He pulled out a chair and sat down, Heinz taking the seat adjacent to his.

"This doesn’t make sense, Your Majesty," Florian said, crossing his arms. "I already know you’ll act poisoned no matter what I choose."

Heinz smirked. "I know. That’s why, in your case, it’s the real deal. You have to figure out which one is prepared the right way."

Florian’s breath hitched. His eyes widened. "Is... is that wise? We’re in public, and I don’t— I don’t want to kill you."

"Then choose wisely."

Florian stared at him, stunned. ’Wow. And here I thought he couldn’t be more fucked up.’

A genuine sense of unease settled over him as his gaze dropped to the table. Two sheets of paper lay before him—each containing a different thod for preparing the tea.

Swallowing hard, he reached for the first one and began to read.

Ingredients:

Selûr en’Vareth Petals – Must be dried before use.

Moonlit Dew – Heated until shimring.

Star Aniseed – Steeps before petals.

Emberroot Shavings – Added near the end.

Crystallized Honeyvine Nectar – Dissolves naturally.

Preparation Steps (At the Table):

> Spread petals on a heated stone for quick drying.

> Heat Moonlit Dew over a small fla until shimring.

> Add Star Aniseed, steep for seven breaths.

> Stir three tis clockwise, twice counterclockwise.

> Add dried Selûr en’Vareth petals, steep for nine minutes.

> At eight minutes, add Emberroot.

> Strain into a black porcelain cup, add Honeyvine Nectar.

> The tea should be garnet-red with a golden shimr

’Hmm... what’s with the random bolding of so of these words? They don’t even make sense.’

Florian’s brows drew together as he studied the page, a flicker of frustration tightening his expression. He ran a finger over the strange, emphasized words, as if touch might reveal so hidden aning.

With a quiet sigh, he shifted his attention to the second sheet of instructions, hoping it would offer so clarity.

Ingredients:

Moonlit Dew must shimr before use.

Star Aniseed steeps first.

Selûr en’Vareth Petals must dry before adding to the tea.

Emberroot is added at the eighth minute.

Honeyvine Nectar dissolves naturally.

Preparation Steps:

>Do not use petals until dried. Place them on a heated stone.

> Boil Moonlit Dew, wait until it shimrs.

> Add Star Aniseed, steep for seven breaths.

> Stir only after petals are added.

> Add Selûr en’Vareth petals, steep for exactly nine minutes.

> At the eighth minute, add Emberroot.

> Strain into black porcelain, add Honeyvine Nectar.

> The tea must turn garnet-red with a golden shimr to be safe.

"What the fuck?" Florian muttered under his breath as he read the second set of instructions.

"Sothing wrong?" Heinz asked, watching him carefully.

Florian’s fingers tightened around the papers. ’Yes. Sothing is definitely wrong. These instructions don’t make sense.’

His eyes flicked between the two guides, scanning them over and over. The wording was different. The structure was jumbled. But the core remained the sa—the sa ingredients, the sa timing, the sa end result.

’It’s almost as if...’ He froze, a sudden realization creeping in.

Heart pounding, Florian looked up from the papers, his gaze locking onto Heinz. "Your Majesty?"

"Mhm?" Heinz humd, tilting his head slightly.

Florian hesitated, then carefully voiced his suspicion. "Could it be that... these two instructions are actually the sa? They’re both correct."

A long silence. Heinz simply stared at him, then turned away.

"Why do you think so?"

’He didn’t deny it.’ Florian’s breath hitched.

Before he beca Florian, he had been Aden—a writer, a creative writing major, soone who had spent years deconstructing stories and helping his sister craft narratives. This was a trick he had seen before. A rewritten passage, disguised as sothing new by altering its structure.

"The way this was written," Florian said slowly, piecing it together aloud, "it was made to seem different, but it isn’t. The steps are just rearranged—like telling the sa story in a different order." He exhaled sharply. "So it’s safe to assu... both instructions are correct."

"If that’s what you think, then try it."
