"That’s alright. After careful consideration, we’ve decided to adjust your position."
Upon hearing this, Li Mingjie couldn’t contain his excitent.
Am I about to get the promotion of a lifeti?
"Alright, I’ll take it! I’ll take it!" Li Mingjie said, cutting Director Wang off before he could finish. "I will work diligently and without complaint in my new role, living up to the trust the governnt has placed in us! I’ll strive to improve myself to et the leaders’ expectations!"
"Not bad, kid." Director Wang coughed, then spoke earnestly. "I was worried you wouldn’t be able to handle it, but I didn’t expect you to have such a positive attitude. From now on, you’ll be starting your new position."
Li Mingjie nodded vigorously, his excitent shared by Zhang ide and the others, who were ecstatic.
"Don’t worry, Director Wang. I will supervise Lin’an District well and won’t disappoint you," Li Mingjie promised, his voice trembling with excitent.
"What supervision of Lin’an District? Your job is to handle shoveling dung at the dog farm. Master Jiang said you personally volunteered for it."
After that, Director Wang hung up.
BOOM!
Li Mingjie felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He collapsed into his chair, utterly bewildered, his mind a complete blank. Beside him, Zhang ide and the others were equally horrified. Just monts ago, Li Mingjie was on the verge of being promoted to Supervisor of Lin’an District. Director Wang’s words were a vicious slap in the face.
The room erupted in a stunned uproar.
A dung shoveler? I’m going to shovel dog crap? I was just offering that very job to Qin Long, and now it’s mine?
"It’s not real, not real, not real..." Li Mingjie clutched his head, his whole body trembling, unable to believe it was true.
I was supposed to beco the Supervisor of Lin’an District, with a limitless future. I might have even beco a district chief soday. Now, it’s all ruined. I’ve plumted from heaven straight into hell. A dung shoveler! Who the hell could stand this!
"Mingjie, what in the world is going on?" Zhang ide pointed a nacing finger at him, furious beyond asure. "Didn’t you say you were getting promoted?"
One second, he was their glorious future son-in-law; the next, he was a dung shoveler. If word got out that his son-in-law shoveled dung for a living, he’d die of sha.
"Dad, I... I don’t know what happened," Li Mingjie stamred, his expression a ss of confusion.
"Don’t you dare call Dad! I can’t bear the title!" Zhang ide’s face had changed completely. Since his daughter and Li Mingjie hadn’t officially registered their marriage yet, there was still ti to salvage the situation.
Yang ilian also looked at Li Mingjie with utter disdain. She had assud that with Li Mingjie working for the governnt in Jiangzhong, there would be plenty of benefits. As the saying goes, it’s easier to get things done when you know people in the governnt. But what value did a dung shoveler have?
"We agreed to get married. Why the sudden change of heart?" Li Mingjie asked, his face pale with panic.
"Could it... could it really have been Qin Long’s doing?" Zhang ide’s younger son suddenly spoke up.
All eyes snapped to him. The next second, they all fell into a deathly silence, lost in thought.
Could what Qin Long said earlier actually be true?
"He ruined ! It was definitely him!" Li Mingjie shot to his feet, the veins on his arms bulging as he gritted out the words.
Zhang ide was skeptical. He couldn’t believe Qin Long had the power to influence Li Mingjie’s career. But thinking about it, the timing was too coincidental. Li Mingjie was on the verge of a promotion with unlimited potential. Then, right after he mocked and ridiculed Qin Long, he was demoted to a dung shoveler. And Qin Long had practically spelled it out for them.
"Damn it! That stupid dog! I’m going to kill him!" Li Mingjie roared, his fists clenched tight.
"Kill him? With a single word, he can change your destiny," Yang ilian said, tapping slowly on the table. She saw the situation clearly and quickly explained her thoughts to Zhang ide. "We have to ask Qin Long for help now."
Gritting his teeth, Li Mingjie slamd his hand on the table, his reluctance clear. "I won’t go! I refuse to beg a lowly, crippled dog!" he roared.
"Fine. Then as of today, you and Xiaoyue are through!" Zhang ide said, his expression cold as ice, offering no room for negotiation.
Li Mingjie instantly deflated.
It looks like I have to beg Qin Long for help. Otherwise, I’ll lose my fiancée and my job. So much for a bright future!
"I’ll go beg him," Li Mingjie finally agreed through clenched teeth.
「The Tang Family’s Courtyard」
After Qin Long returned, Tang Xuewu started boiling water to help him wash.
"Xuewu?" Seeing her sweating as she boiled water and did his laundry, Qin Long felt a pang of guilt.
"What is it, Long?" Tang Xuewu turned her stunningly beautiful face toward him, a puzzled look in her eyes.
"I can boil my own water and do the laundry myself," Qin Long said, his gaze tender.
"Well..." Tang Xuewu’s pretty face flushed as she murmured, "I was worried it would be inconvenient for you, so I just did it."
She was already used to taking care of Qin Long. Over the past three years, they had beco inseparable, like family. Qin Long said nothing more, but he etched the image of this girl deep into his heart. He suddenly rembered what she had said while leaning on his shoulder—that she wanted soone to build a ho with, soone to protect and cherish her.
Xuewu, once I’ve recovered, I will marry you and give you a wedding fit for a princess. I’ll make you the happiest bride in the Grand Xia Nation. With by your side, no one will ever dare to bully you.
Qin Long gazed at Tang Xuewu, making a silent vow. His Golden Needle could bring the dead back to life. With his Punishnt Sword, he could execute first and report later, felling millions of soldiers with a furious swing. Yet, at this mont, all he felt was an uncontrollable urge to hold this girl in his arms and protect her for all eternity.
"You damned... Qin Long, Xuewu, co over here for a second," Zhang ilan’s voice called from outside.
"Qin Long, do you know Mrs. Zhao?" Zhang ilan demanded, standing with her hands on her hips and glaring at him. She had seen it clearly last ti: Mrs. Zhao had personally co to pick Qin Long up. Now, she had invited him to a grand al. This was clearly more than a casual acquaintance.
"Mom, I already told you," Tang Xuewu answered hastily, affectionately taking Qin Long’s hand. "Qin Long saved Mrs. Zhao’s daughter, Zhao Xiaotong, so he’s her benefactor. The fact that Yaolong Group specifically requested to sign with is also thanks to Long."
Zhang ilan was startled, her brow furrowed.
If that’s true, then this Qin Long really has so skills. But if he’s so capable, why hasn’t he cured his own leg?
She pondered for a mont, then looked at Qin Long again. "Qin Long, is what Xuewu said true?"
Tang De, who had been sipping his tea, was also secretly observing Qin Long.
"It’s true," Qin Long replied earnestly.
The hall fell into a dead silence.
Who would have thought this cripple actually had so real ability?
"Mom, Dad, Qin Long’s dical skills are incredible," Tang Xuewu added, wanting her parents to change their opinion of him. She found herself unable to stop speaking up for him. "Rember when I sprained my ankle? He was the one who healed it with acupuncture."
"Alright, so what if you and Mrs. Zhao are good friends? It’s useless," Zhang ilan said dismissively. "Li Mingjie is annoying, but he had a point. No matter how rich other people are, it’s still their money. It has nothing to do with you. Look at Li Mingjie. He’s just a minor governnt official, yet he acts so arrogantly."
