The wind howled like it mourned.

Ryon stood barefoot in the blood-soaked arena, chest still bandaged from Shaera’s mark. Around him, warriors beat their spears against bone pillars—chanting, screaming, waiting for the next fight.

Above them all, the Beast Queen sat on her throne of skulls, silver arm resting on the hilt of her obsidian sword.

Her gaze never left Ryon.

The Beast Descends

The gates roared open, and out lumbered the champion.

A towering woman with twisted, ivory-white horns that curved like scythes. Her body rippled with muscle, but her face was eerily calm—painted with ritual symbols of mourning and war.

She carried no weapon.

Because her bones were her weapons.

With a growl, spikes erupted from her forearms like spears.

"Prove you’re worth her fire," she rasped. "Or leave your bones here."

A Fight of Instincts

Ryon dodged the first barrage—bone lances stabbing into stone inches from his ribs.

He spun, rolled, and conjured a flicker of fla—but the magic stuttered.

Too unstable.

He’d have to win this the old way.

Blood, timing, and risk.

She charged again.

He let her get close—too close.

Then used her montum to twist behind her, grabbing her horn and using her own weight to throw her against the pillar.

A bone spike tore across his side. He hissed—but didn’t fall.

She paused.

"You bleed well," she said.

"So do you," he replied, and drove his fist into her ribs—where he sensed a soft pulse.

A human beat still behind the monster.

The Mont of Yield

They wrestled, clawed, and battered each other—until she pinned him, one spike to his throat, the other to his side.

"You’re done," she growled.

"I’m just beginning."

And then, Ryon leaned forward.

And kissed her.

Not out of lust.

Out of respect.

Out of challenge.

Out of recognition.

The spike trembled. Her eyes widened.

And then—

She dropped her weapons.

Fell to her knees.

And bowed.

A Fire Shared

That night, Shaera didn’t sit across the fire.

She sat beside him.

And after a long silence, she leaned into his shoulder, her voice a whisper.

"You know... most who co here want to ta ."

"I don’t want to ta you," Ryon said softly.

"I want to run beside you when you break everything."

Her laughter was low, rich, dangerous.

And when sleep ca, she let him rest inside the fire circle.

Far beyond the Wastes, the System quivered.

Because another tether had begun to tighten...

...and it was no longer in control.
