April 1, 2017, April Fool’s Day.
Below the girls’ dorm at Shanghai Theatre Academy.
"Have you guys heard about sothing?"
The gossiping heart of girls is always heavy, especially at an arts school like this which is a training ground for the entertainnt industry. Several fashionably dressed young won walked side by side, whispering as they went.
"About what?"
"You don’t know yet? It’s almost spreading throughout the acting departnt!"
"Just tell us what it’s about first!"
The girl who was asked couldn’t contain her curiosity any longer.
"Recently, during a stage performance at our school, a lot of company representatives ca to watch. Our acting departnt’s ’goddess’ caught the eye of Huayi, and it seems they’re planning to invite her to star in a TV drama."
"Really? Debuting in freshman year?"
"It’s true! The student council leaked it. I heard Sister Hua from Huayi ca personally to invite her, but since Zhai Li didn’t agree, Sister Hua went to talk to the school leaders to persuade her. The student council mber present at the ti told us, you know my boyfriend is also in the student council, right? He’s the one who told ."
"She actually refused it? Why? Such a golden opportunity, and it’s Huayi!"
The other girls showed expressions of disbelief. If it were them, they wouldn’t dream of refusing, in fact, they’d jump at the chance.
The girl who first spoke wore a disdainful smile, saying sarcastically, "Acting all high and mighty, isn’t that obvious? How else can she appear valuable? But don’t worry, she’ll join Huayi sooner or later, just wait and watch."
The other girls nodded in earnest belief to her words.
After all, even though Huayi has been declining over the years, it’s still a giant in the entertainnt industry. It’s not difficult for them to make a newbie famous. Which of these students at Shanghai Theatre Academy doesn’t dream of becoming a huge star? Judging others by themselves, they couldn’t fathom what reason Zhai Li could have to reject Huayi.
"But I heard she’s quite close with Gu Bai from the directing departnt... Are they about to confirm their relationship?"
"It seems so. That genius school hunk who joined our school with full marks... I know a senior in her third year who has been pursuing him, but Gu Bai doesn’t seem interested in her, he didn’t even give her his contact information."
"Though, quite jealous of Zhai Li, why does she get all the good stuff. But to be honest, Gu Bai and Zhai Li do look like a couple. Zhai Li always has this cool goddess vibe, and Gu Bai has that artsy feel. I’m not surprised they ended up together."
Hearing their talk, the girl who seed sour about Zhai Li couldn’t help but interject.
"What cool goddess and artsy, they’re just two peas in a pod. Those pretentious people are all the sa. Especially Gu Bai, sure, he’s handso, but what’s the point? He’s going the director route.
In the entertainnt industry, which director isn’t in their forties or fifties before they even make a na for themselves? With him, I’d have no interest at all, they might just end up lying in a rented room discussing dreams for all they care. Unlike my boyfriend, his family owns an entertainnt company, small as it may be, but at least he can help out. Maybe in the future, he could boost my career too!"
"Alright, enough talking."
"What’s to be afraid of?"
Just then, a girl wearing jeans and a light blue jacket walked past her. Her long hair was loose, and she had a refreshing aura about her.
Seeing her, the girl knew imdiately why her friends told her to stop talking. The subject of their gossip had arrived, and she was still shalessly bad-mouthing her.
However, even though Zhai Li overheard their discussion, her face remained expressionless as she walked straight past them. Her elegant figure slowly faded away, carrying an air of sophistication.
"Pfft, what an act."
The girl muttered to herself, glancing furtively at Zhai Li, not daring to be too rude.
.................
By the campus villas, there was a sowhat quiet little path. Since no teaching buildings were connected, it was seldom frequented, eventually becoming a favorite spot for couples to et.
No benches were specifically installed, so scattered stones around beca their resting place.
The evening breeze blew gently, making the landscape trees by the road rustle.
Under one tree was a flat, clean stone.
A boy sat atop it, engrossed in sothing on his phone. The soft light from the screen highlighted his features, making them look even more defined.
Seeing this from afar eased Zhai Li’s previously restless mood, bringing a gentle smile to her face. Anyone unfamiliar with her who witnessed this would likely gasp aloud; during her year at Shanghai Theatre Academy, no one had seen Zhai Li smiling casually outside of the stage.
"Gu Bai."
Hearing soone call his na, Gu Bai imdiately looked up, glancing toward the front.
"You’re here."
Saying this, he clumsily brushed off the stone he was sitting on.
"Mm-hmm."
Picking up her pace a bit, Zhai Li directly sat beside him without a hint of hesitation or pause.
"Wait, don’t sit yet, it’s not clean."
"It’s fine, I don’t mind."
Zhai Li, eyes curving like crescents, stared closely at Gu Bai’s face, her smile as bright as the moonlight tonight.
Seeing how she stared at him, Gu Bai looked a bit uneasy, his eyes dropping slightly.
