Sun Wukong had learned from the mories of the Sect Leader of Holy Ultimate Buddhism how they had found the dicinal Human Seeds, and, to his surprise, he learned about the oddities of Buddha's Pure Land. Long ago, the Buddha's Pure Land Realm was normal, indistinguishable from other Interdiate Worlds. However, ever since the people of the Buddha's Pure Land Realm received a mission to dispatch three strong individuals to a place called the Illusionary Bug Domain to find a bug that could grant eternal life, also known as the Immortal Spirit.
Anything related to words like 'eternal' or 'everlasting life' would attract countless individuals. This instance was no exception. Three spots were far too few for an entire world. However, in Buddha's Pure Land, it just so happened that the realm was dominated by three First Rank sects, so the candidates were naturally the Sect Hierarchs of these three First Rank sects. At that ti, the Sect Hierarch of Great Honored Buddhism was not yet Tathagata.
The first journey into the Illusionary Bug Domain corresponded with the appearance of a temporal gate in every Interdiate World, which upon entering, would transport one to a peculiar realm. That world had no sun or moon, only endless gloom, looking desolate beyond asure, and one could not sense the breath of any life—only death. As for what those three Sect Hierarchs experienced inside, the Sect Leader of Holy Ultimate Buddhism had no idea, as only one Sect Hierarch had ever ntioned the place in passing.
One month later, only two of the Sect Hierarchs who went to the Illusionary Bug Domain returned to Buddha's Pure Land. The one who did not return was the Sect Hierarch of Great Honored Buddhism. Shortly after, Great Honored Buddhism was in chaos, with countless people fighting for the position of Sect Hierarch. The other two First Rank sects, after remaining silent for half a month, suddenly made a move against Great Honored Buddhism. On one side, without the Hierarch to stabilize the situation and internal turmoil brewing, and on the other side, plotting for a long ti coupled with the alliance of the two First Rank sects, Great Honored Buddhism simply could not resist. Just as Great Honored Buddhism was on the verge of collapse due to the joint assault of the two First Rank sects, Tathagata appeared.
At that ti, Tathagata was seated on the Lotus Throne Treasure, his body wrapped by a long chain, with over a dozen Top Level Magic Treasures floating behind him. Leveraging his power alone, he valiantly turned the tide, repelled thousands from the two First Rank sects, and then led the remaining forces of Great Honored Buddhism to chase after their victory, fighting all the way to the gates of the two First Rank sects. Ultimately, after breaching the gates, he forced the Sect Hierarchs of both sects to submit to Great Honored Buddhism and recognize it as the supre power of Buddha's Pure Land. Then, sothing strange happened.
Starting with the Sect Hierarchs of those two First Rank sects, a bizarre phenonon began to occur, starting from the top and moving down. Initially, the Sect Hierarchs of both sects suddenly fell into an unexplained coma, with no one in the entire sect able to diagnose the issue. Then, one by one, the powerful mbers of the sects began falling into comas as well, with no one able to find a reason. Eventually, the matter could no longer be concealed and beca known to other sects. Concerned about their sect's strong individuals being incapacitated and attracting the greed of Second Rank and Third Rank sects, they sought out Tathagata, the Sect Hierarch of Great Honored Buddhism.
Tathagata did not refuse, and upon arriving at the two First Rank sects, he quickly identified the reason for the inexplicable comas. According to him, they had been poisoned. The poison had been brought from another world by the two Sect Hierarchs, unknown in this world, hence unrecognized by anyone. Tathagata, having been fortunate enough to visit that world, was very familiar with it. Thus, he commanded people to place so strange bugs, obtained by the two Sect Hierarchs from the Illusionary Bug Domain, into their bodies. After so ti, the bugs that were put into their bodies turned into two black chains.
In the end, Tathagata wrapped the two Sect Hierarchs in those bug-like chains, and, sure enough, before long the two Hierarchs woke up. When those two Sect Hierarchs made their experiences in the Illusionary Bug Domain public, the situation beca clear. The two Hierarchs had received a command from a senior figure to go to the Illusionary Bug Domain in search of the secret to eternal life, but all they found were those serpentine larvae. After ti had passed, they were sent back, only to suddenly fall into comas.
And Tathagata's explanation was that the Illusionary Bug Domain actually contained at least two types of insects: one was the larvae they brought back, and the other was a type of poisonous insect invisible to the naked eye. The Eternal Chains were insects with Immortal Spirits as their bodies, feeding on those invisible poisonous insects. As soon as the two Sect Leaders entered the Illusionary Bug Domain, they had been poisoned, and the contagion began to spread upon their return. To detoxify, one had to utilize Tathagata's thod from before, cultivating the obtained larvae into mature insects and then rging with them; this way, they would not be hard by the invisible poisonous insects.
Although many people still doubted Tathagata's claims, when he ntioned that these chain-like insects could grant one's flesh body powerful recovery abilities without any side effects, people beca insanely eager for these special insects. The Eternal Chains that Sun Wukong discovered in the Great Honored Buddhism last ti were just a portion; over the past few centuries, more Eternal Chains had already been integrated by the powerful. However, only a minority had rged with those chains. The vast majority had not.
The dicinal Human Seeds capable of cultivating the larvae of the Eternal Chains obtained from the Illusionary Bug Domain were actually man-made by people from the Great Honored Buddhism. That is to say, those dicinal Human Seeds were artificially created. However, after they had produced the first batch suitable for cultivating Eternal Chains, that batch of dicinal Human Seeds suddenly mutated, each becoming incredibly powerful and able to exert much greater combat power in unison than their own ranks would suggest. Then the facility that produced the dicinal Human Seeds was utterly destroyed, and all the seeds escaped.
Everyone originally thought this thod had failed, yet after more than a decade, soone from the Great Honored Buddhism suddenly discovered a child possessing the exact capabilities as the dicinal Human Seeds. After experintation, they found these naturally occurring dicinal Human Seeds were even more benign and better suited for the cultivation of the Eternal Chains. Therefore, Tathagata established a new base in the Great Honored Buddhism, but after they produced a batch of dicinal Human Seeds, they would release them, all marked. They would find the descendants of these seeds using the special marks after more than a decade.
Starting from the second batch, the dicinal Human Seeds that were created were almost indistinguishable from normal people, only identifiable by special ans. As to why Holy Ultimate Buddhism and another Sect had this special thod in their hands, nobody knew, not even the Sect Leader of Holy Ultimate Buddhism. He only knew that in the entire Holy Ultimate Buddhism, only those from the enemy's lineage held the thod for finding dicinal Human Seeds.
The dicinal Human Seeds were artificially created, and it was the descendants of these created seeds that they were searching for. But within the mory of Holy Ultimate Buddhism, Sun Wukong confird his hypothesis. Sun Wukong's conjecture was quite bold and initially had no evidence, a sudden intuition, but now, this idea had been proven correct.
Sun Wukong suspected that apart from the dicinal Human Seeds, everyone in Buddha's Pure Land must be in a state akin to being soulless. Having spent so long in the Netherworld World, Sun Wukong understood the human soul clearly. Moreover, Rogue Heart Sword Hero and others later shared with Sun Wukong so matters regarding souls. As for souls, it is known that humans have three souls and seven spirits, and only when both are complete is a soul truly complete, allowing one to be truly alive. However, only a few in the Netherworld World know that beyond the three souls and seven spirits, all Cultivators possess a Spirit. But this Spirit has only been proven to exist by a very few researchers, hence the alternate term 'Soul' for what exists beyond the soul and essence.
However, the vast majority of people can't detect the existence of the Spirit, so they confuse it with the soul and essence, which is incorrect. The full term for the human soul should be Soul and Essence. The people of Buddha's Pure Land have lost their Spirit. They retain their three souls and seven spirits, but lack the Spirit. Sun Wukong's Heaven and Earth Fire Eyes equally couldn't see the Spirit, but Tang Sanzang could. That's why Tang Sanzang said that the people of Buddha's Pure Land have no heart—actually, they have no Spirit! (To be continued.
