Liu Jiankun, it’s tough!
The design submission for Warhawk-1 ca out of nowhere, catching Aviation Group completely unprepared.
Liu Jiankun had to hastily organize an expert validation panel to conclusively argue the report from top to bottom, because it was a fifth-generation fighter design, and each part required detailed calculations. So parts even necessitated an attempt at understanding, seeking thods just for the purpose of calculation.
It was like solving a completely foreign problem, requiring the experts in the validation team to exert great ntal effort.
For the enormous Aviation Group, organizing a temporary expert validation panel wasn’t too challenging; worst cos to worst, they could just recruit staff from the research institutions below.
Aviation Group had over thirty research institutions under its wing, each brimming with talent. There were six academicians working on the operational side alone, covering every aspect of aircraft design. Even peripheral aerospace research and developnt had dedicated institutes. Each responsible institute carrying out their respective part of the validation could well solve the design validation problem.
What stumped Liu Jiankun was the "Intelligent Control System," which fell under the category of electronic equipnt.
Under the Aviation Group were the Flight Automatic Control Research Institute and the Aviation Computer Technology Research Institute. Top researchers from both institutes ca over, but after reviewing the content of the "Intelligent Control System," they said they could not complete the verification calculations in a short ti.
Because the algorithm was too complex!
While they specialized in aviation electronic equipnt and had plenty of talent related to computer algorithms, having talent doesn’t an possessing the expertise of top-level algorithm specialists.
Their suggestion was, "We must find the top-tier algorithm engineers."
By top-tier, I an not just ordinarily top-tier, but those experts whose mathematical, computational abilities are world-class, preferably those who specialize in mathematics and algorithm research," they said.
"We simply don’t have such talent in our institute!"
Of course, they don’t.
Soone who is simultaneously a mathematician and a computer expert, devoted entirely to the research of mathematics and computer algorithms, would typically be engaged purely in theoretical research, not likely to work at a research institute under Aviation Group.
Such talent, whose capabilities couldn’t fully unfold within a research institute of the Aviation Group, is better sought at the Science Academy or major universities.
Liu Jiankun imdiately thought of a place, "The Software Institute of the Science Academy? Information and Computation Center?"
"Academician Zhao, this is indeed a tough challenge!"
Liu Jiankun was even tempted to ask Zhao Yi over for an explanation, but research personnel definitely could not participate in design validation. Having Zhao Yi, the designer, co over for an explanation, why even bother organizing an expert panel for validation? Just approve it directly; after all, he didn’t care about the principles of the design.
So, they still had to look for the Science Academy.
Though Aviation Group had related personnel in the Science Academy, they were all from departnts with established cooperation. The Software Institute and Information and Computation Center had no contact whatsoever with them.
This was equivalent to seeking help outside the Group.
Even though Aviation Group was a very important dostic aviation industry conglorate, dostic research institutions and corporate groups were not one big happy family. And even if they were, researchers underneath didn’t see it that way—who would want to increase their workload with work unrelated to their research and developnt because of issues at an unrelated institution?
Liu Jiankun had no choice but to communicate with the heads of the Software Institute and Information Center of the Science Academy. He even went as far as to board a plane in person to discuss the matter, finally agreeing on the validation work.
The Software Institute of the Science Academy agreed to dispatch an Information Academician to lead a team to Aviation Group and assist with the validation of the "Intelligent Control System."
This academician was Liu Hemin.
Liu Hemin was an academician who had been newly inducted last year; he was sowhat complacent after being awarded the title of Academician, and his recent research on evolutionary algorithms had also achieved stage results, leaving his mood quite good.
When he heard that the Software Institute was supporting the validation work of Aviation Group, he imdiately made inquiries and promptly distanced himself, since it involved the na "Zhao Yi."
Liu Hemin was very confident in his professional level, a top-tier expert in both mathematics and computer science, but when it ca to comparing himself to Zhao Yi, he simply didn’t dare.
The "Intelligent Control System" designed by Zhao Yi had left Aviation Group helpless, forcing them to seek assistance from the Software Institute of the Science Academy. The algorithmic difficulty involved was surely top-notch.
Leading a team to Aviation Group was no big deal, but as an ’externally hired’ expert group, it would be quite embarrassing for an Information Academician to arrive and not understand the principles of the algorithm.
Thus, Liu Hemin really didn’t want to go, but it wasn’t about what he wanted, it was about the decision made by the institute.
There was a brief eting at the institute discussing the matter. Everyone then looked to Liu Hemin, for in the past few months, he was the only one relatively free, and his expertise fit the requirents of Aviation Group.
Liu Hemin agreed to take on the job with great reluctance, but upon further reflection, he felt it was not very reassuring.
Then he had an idea.
"Right!"
"Just by understanding the principle of the algorithm and so important points, there should be no problem at all."
"At that ti, we can show the folks at Aviation Group the strength of the Software Institute in computing and mathematics. We can quickly solve problems they can’t."
"How to understand it, though?"
Liu Hemin didn’t have the reservations of Aviation Group. He decided to call Zhao Yi directly that very day.
