Later on, new fighter jet designs stopped chasing high flight speeds and altitudes, focusing instead on improving maneuverability in mid and low altitude, and perfecting the onboard electronic equipnt, weapons, and fire control systems.

The early jet fighters were fitted with machine guns for air combat. The fifth-generation fighters could reach a maximum flight speed of 3,000 kiloters per hour, a maximum altitude of 20 kiloters, and a maximum range of over 2,000 kiloters without external fuel tanks, extending to more than 5,000 kiloters when equipped with them. They also carried advanced electronic counterasure equipnt. Their primary function was to eliminate airborne enemies and other aerial threats, characterized by high speed, rapid ascent, high service ceiling, and good maneuverability.

The modern fighter jets, in pursuit of superior dogfighting abilities, have achieved so new improvents in performance, shape, propulsion, onboard equipnt, weaponry, and fire-control systems.

For example, they emphasize transonic maneuverability at low and mid altitudes, increasing the steady turn rate and instantaneous turn rate near the speed of sound, the instantaneous acceleration capability at high altitudes, the maximum rate of climb at sea level, supersonic flight at even lower altitudes, and reducing the takeoff and landing rollout distance, etc.

In essence, while fighter jets possess basic capabilities (like supersonic cruising), the most critical aspects of design to consider are burst capability, agility, long-distance flight capacity, as well as sophisticated equipnt and weapons.

Burst capability and long-distance flight capacity primarily rely on engines and related propulsion systems.

Agility mainly depends on engine and design.

Advanced equipnt and weapons are outside of the consideration since the design of fighter jets does not need to take into account equipnt or weapons issues.

Those are matters for other relevant departnts to consider.

Neither of them wanted to interrupt, so they patiently waited.

After a while,

Zhao Yi finally snapped back to reality, apologized embarrassedly, and greeted them, "Lei Yong, Bao Enhong, hello, welco! I was just pondering over the aircraft design..."

"Oh, is that so!"
