Chapter 985: Chapter 985: Can’t Calm Down_1 Chapter 985: Chapter 985: Can’t Calm Down_1 What’s going on?
When Jane McCain was pushed into the police car, her mind was blank. When she was brought into the interrogation room, it remained blank.
She couldn’t figure out why she was being accused of murder?
Who did she kill?
Her flash marriage husband?
But she had only given him two cold dicine tablets, could that have killed him?!
The closed door suddenly opened and Aria Jackson walked in with a complex expression, followed by Allen Rivera.
Jane imdiately stood up and asked for help, “Sister Aria, what’s going on?! Why are they saying I committed murder? They even put this on … can this be removed?”
She stretched out her hands to show the silver-grey handcuffs, her expression frantic.
Aria Jackson glanced at Allen Rivera.
Allen said, “Take them off her.”
A police officer ca in from outside and unlocked Jane’s handcuffs.
Jane rubbed her wrists and looked at the two people in front of her, bewildered, “What exactly is going on? Did the police make a mistake? … Can I go back now?”
“I’m afraid you can’t go back just yet.” Allen took a seat opposite her, tried to control his emotions, and then asked, “Jane, do you rember the story you made up?”
Jane nodded slightly, still dazed.
“We discovered a male model nicknad Philly who went missing a few years ago. His real na is Zane Matthew, and he had a brother nad Kyle Matthew. Just like in your story, Kyle went out to search for his missing younger brother and also beca untraceable. We used the hair strands left in his ho for DNA testing and confird it matched the body found in the catfish dismbernt case.”
Jane still didn’t understand as she looked at Allen Rivera, then turned to Aria Jackson.
“You an to say… my made-up story just happened to be true?” Jane was baffled and confused, “But… what does this have to do with ? I don’t even know them!”
Allen looked at her innocent appearance, felt a touch of lancholy in his heart, and subconsciously wanted to believe her. However, the evidence before him compelled him to fulfill his duty.
He was the prosecutor.
He couldn’t dismiss major suspicions just because the suspect was an acquaintance.
Allen loosened his collar, exhaled deeply, and said, “Jane, the reason this dismbernt case has remained unsolved is that we never discovered the victim’s identity.”
He looked up, his gaze eting Jane’s eyes, “Do you understand now? In a murder case where no one knew who the victim was, you did.”
The only person who could know the victim’s identity would likely be the murderer.
“I don’t know!” Jane exclaid in shock, “I don’t know any Kyle Matthew. I was just making up a story!”
“Janie, think carefully, is there any chance you might have heard such a story sowhere?” Aria didn’t want to pressure her but had to convey the harsh reality, “Once the charge of first-degree murder is established, there are only two possible sentences, either the death penalty or life in prison. So, you must try to rember, understand?”
“Death penalty? Life in prison?…” Jane’s lips turned pale and in disbelief, she murmured, “I haven’t done anything… I haven’t committed any cris, why would I be sentenced to death? Why sentenced to life in prison? Why does no one believe …”
“Janie, we believe you,” Aria said, taking her hand.
“You don’t!” Jane collapsed, flinging her hand away and shouting hysterically at Allen, “You don’t believe at all, that’s why you had the police arrest ! And to think I treated you like a friend! What a prosecutor, no different from my husband! Both of you just want dead! If I die, you’re the murderer! You are the murderer!!!”
“Jane, calm down!” Allen grabbed her arm, “Calm down!”
“I can’t calm down!” Jane wept, “I’m about to be sentenced to death, how do you expect to be calm!”
