"It’s really uncanny, she looks just like little Ann..."

"Shh, don’t disturb her."

Blurry voices whispered around her, Evelyn Clayton furrowed her brows, trying to discern the sound, but was pulled into a dark dream she couldn’t wake from.

She saw flas soaring skyward, saw the sky and earth seemingly overturned, torrents of rain pouring down, the fire extinguished only to blaze anew.

When she opened her eyes again, she only saw a white ceiling.

Staring blankly, Evelyn hears a sudden, low sob, filled with indescribable joy.

"You’re awake?"

Woodenly, Evelyn turned her head to see the gentle face of a middle-aged woman, both beautiful and composed.

The woman’s soft gaze rested on Evelyn, who opened her mouth to speak but a sharp pain in her throat stopped any words from coming out.

Confusion flickered across Evelyn’s eyes.

"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid!" the woman quickly held her hand and spoke soothingly, "You’ve been lying here for a long ti, your body hasn’t fully recovered yet, so don’t try to speak just now."

Struggling, Evelyn tried to sit up, eyes filled with unease and fear.

She looked around, seeing she seed to be in a high-end hospital room, its setup unfamiliar, distinct from typical Riversend Hospital accommodations.

"Don’t move!" the woman held down Evelyn’s shoulders, anxious and worried, "You have many wounds, so burns too, you’re still in recovery!"

Steadily, Evelyn gazed at the woman, waving her hand randomly, mouthing the questions: Where am I? Who are you?

At first perplexed, the woman soon understood, "You’re... asking who I am?"

Evelyn nodded.

The woman’s eyes reddened slightly, calming herself after a while, she began to explain.

"We rescued you on the highway in Y Province, you were in dire straits, we had to take you ho for treatnt... This is Aethelburg, my na is Pauline Warren."

As she spoke, the woman stood up and called in a tall, middle-aged man.

"This is my husband, Silas Sinclair."

Silas Sinclair exuded a calm elegance, his refined appearance complented Pauline Warren’s perfectly.

Evelyn looked at the two with skepticism, sensing they were people of wealth and status.

Aethelburg...

After a mont, Evelyn looked steadily at Pauline Warren, her hand gesturing.

Pauline Warren was sowhat bewildered, not understanding Evelyn’s intentions.

Silas Sinclair, however, watched for a while, then handed a cellphone to Evelyn.

Evelyn opened the notepad app, typed a line, and showed it to Pauline Warren.

"Are you part of the Wang family?"

Pauline Warren was taken aback by the abrupt question, then replied, "You know about the Wang family? Well, I... I’m considered part of them... but we haven’t been in touch for ages."

Gritting her teeth slightly, Evelyn continued to type another line.

"What’s your relationship with Yvette Warren?"

Yvette Warren, wife of Arthur Chandler, president of The rchants’ Guild and eldest daughter of the Aethelburg Wang family.

Pauline Warren’s expression shifted slightly, "You know her?"

Evelyn nodded, continuing to type on her phone.

Silas Sinclair’s expression changed as well, he looked at Evelyn with subtle scrutiny.

Before long, Evelyn presented the phone screen to them.

"My na is Evelyn Clayton, from Riversend. I’m investigating an unsolved case concerning Arthur Chandler, Yvette Warren’s husband."
