"I really don’t know!"
Heather Donovan furrowed her brows, "How could you suspect ? I didn’t even know you back then!"
Evelyn Clayton saw she wasn’t pretending and closed her eyes, too tired to ask further.
Heather Donovan rolled her eyes.
Very soon, Sumr Monroe’s attending physician ca out and announced that Sumr was out of danger.
Heather Donovan hurriedly got up and left quickly.
Evelyn sat there in a daze for a long ti before dragging her weakened body back ho.
As soon as she entered, she almost collapsed onto the bed using the last bit of her strength.
The phone rang for a long ti. Evelyn frowned and answered. Jas Grant’s concerned voice sounded, "Are you at ho?"
"Yes." Evelyn was too tired to say another word.
Jas asked again, "You didn’t go out, right?"
Evelyn closed her eyes, "No."
After a pause, Evelyn said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up."
Silence persisted on the other end, and Evelyn simply hung up the phone and turned it off.
Having been continually exhausted lately and now having donated blood, Evelyn’s body had nearly reached its limit.
She covered her head with the blanket and fell asleep drowsily.
Evelyn was awoken by the sound of knocking.
When she opened her eyes, it was already dark.
Evelyn dragged her heavy, tired body to open the door, and Franklin Ford unexpectedly appeared at the entrance.
Seeing Evelyn’s overly pale face and her lethargic deanor, Franklin’s face imdiately darkened. Without saying a word, he ca in to support Evelyn.
Evelyn didn’t resist, allowing Franklin to help her sit on the sofa.
"How are you?" Franklin brought a cup of honey water from the kitchen and handed it to Evelyn, looking at her with clear eyes, sighing, "Sumr is out of danger. Did you donate blood for her?"
Evelyn took a sip of honey water and nodded lightly, "Yes, Heather threatened . I had no choice."
Franklin’s brows furrowed more deeply, "Threatened you? With what?"
Evelyn didn’t want to say, so she changed the topic, "Did you visit Sumr?"
"I’ve arranged for a caregiver there," Franklin said, his tone calm.
Evelyn, however, heard the underlying aning in his words, her eyes slightly narrowing as she smiled lightly, "Did you arrange for a spy?"
This ti, Franklin changed the topic, flipping through his phone for private kitchen delivery contacts, "What do you want to eat? I’ll have it sent, you need to rest well afterward."
Evelyn casually said anything, then lazily reclined on the sofa to stabilize her racing heartbeat from donating too much blood.
Franklin was quick; the private kitchen delivery arrived in less than twenty minutes.
Stir-fried pig liver, cold spinach salad, stead black beans... all dishes for blood replenishnt.
Evelyn didn’t stand on ceremony, her beautiful eyes curving with a smile, "Thanks! Once I’m better, I’ll treat you to a al."
Franklin was noncommittal, his tone carrying a hint of peculiar emotion, "You should’ve told right away... No matter how Heather threatened you, let handle it, I have ways."
Detecting the oddity in Franklin’s words, Evelyn paused as she picked at her food.
She feigned ignorance, casually saying, "It’s nothing, I can handle it myself, I won’t trouble you, Director Ford."
Saying this, Evelyn smiled at him again, "Director Ford, you must have other matters to attend to? I won’t personally see you out."
Franklin was just about to say he could stay with her when Evelyn slowly said, "Now, Heather and Sumr have no ti for company affairs. It’s a good opportunity for you, Director Ford."
Upon hearing this, Franklin looked at Evelyn in mild surprise.
After a while, he showed a smile that carried a touch of appreciation.
Indeed, he was privately busy cutting off Sumr and Heather’s influence, striving to weaken their foundation while they were absent.
He just hadn’t expected Evelyn to remind him of this.
Such a person doesn’t seem to need anyone’s care or protection.
"Rest well, I’ll take my leave."
