Mi Jing and Mi Wan walked hand in hand on the main road of the community. At this mont, the sun was warm, bathing them in golden sunlight, and they felt a cozy warmth all around them.
As they walked, Mi Jing’s gaze was inevitably drawn to the hopscotch grid drawn not far ahead on the ground. She excitedly pulled Mi Wan towards it, pointing to the ground, and said, "Sis, let’s play hopscotch!"
"This... it won’t look good if people see us, right?" Mi Wan looked troubled. She was in her thirties after all, playing a children’s ga. If the neighbors saw them, they would probably laugh.
"If others want to watch, let them watch. As long as we’re happy!" Mi Jing didn’t care about others’ opinions at all. She picked up two small tiles from the flowerbed nearby, handing one to Mi Wan.
Seeing Mi Jing’s face filled with joy, Mi Wan didn’t want to spoil the fun, so she decided to act tough and accompany Mi Jing in her childish ga.
The ga’s order was determined by rock-paper-scissors, and Mi Jing won, so she jumped first.
"Sis, you need to put in more effort this ti! I’m about to win!" Mi Jing jumped a few squares energetically, proudly showing off to Mi Wan.
Mi Wan smiled softly, looking at Mi Jing’s bright smile two ters away. She suddenly rembered the happy tis of their childhood.
When they were little, after school and before dinner, Mi Jing would always drag her to play hopscotch or roller skate. No matter how their parents called, they wouldn’t go ho until it was completely dark.
"It’s not over until it’s over! Who knows who will win?" Faced with Mi Jing’s boasting, Mi Wan’s competitive spirit ignited.
Soon, Mi Wan was no longer restrained. She completely let go and happily imrsed herself in the ga, as if she had returned to the shared childhood with Mi Jing.
Jumping up, landing, they were no longer little children, but their movents remained light, their smiles remained bright, and their hearts remained cheerful.
"Oh yeah, I won!"
In the end, Mi Jing won. As always, she cheered happily and excitedly said to Mi Wan, "Sis, you lost, so according to the old rule, you have to agree to one of my requests."
"No problem." Mi Wan agreed straightforwardly as always, without any frustration or unwillingness from losing the ga.
"Haha, then you have to treat to a big al. I get to decide the ti and place."
"Can’t you ask for sothing else?" Mi Wan rolled her eyes at Mi Jing, thinking, can’t she be a bit more creative? From childhood to adulthood, every ti she won a ga, her requests were always related to food.
"I don’t really want anything else!" Mi Jing threw the small tile back into the flowerbed, clapped her hands, and asked, "Sis, do you want to go for a walk? Didn’t you say you wanted to visit the place where I used to teach as a volunteer? How about you find so ti to go?"
Back in her senior year, Mi Jing had gone to a remote town to volunteer as a teacher with Ruan Pianran. To her, it was a tough life experience and a deeply morable one. When leaving the town, Mi Jing used the money sent by Mi Wan and her cousin to build a new classroom there, nad after the town, called "Paradise."
"Okay... never mind, let’s talk about it later."
Mi Wan started to say okay but then paused. Thinking about her daughter, she imdiately dismissed the idea of going far away. She had always wanted to visit the beautiful "Paradise" town Mi Jing talked about, but caring for her daughter had always prevented her from finding the opportunity.
And now with the pending divorce from Song Guotao, it was even less likely. How could she only think of herself and leave her daughter alone?
"Don’t worry about Xuanxuan, Mom and Dad and I will take care of her," Mi Jing understood Mi Wan’s concerns and said, "Besides, you don’t have to go imdiately. You can plan it out and go when the ti is right."
Mi Jing just didn’t want Mi Wan to bottle things up. She wanted her to do sothing she was interested in to distract herself.
"Hmm, I’ll see if I can plan it." Mi Wan pulled Mi Jing to sit on the grass, looking at the blue sky, and said softly, "Actually, I’ve already made it through the worst tis. Compared to that unforgettable pain, Song Guotao’s betrayal is nothing."
Towards Song Guotao, Mi Wan had complete trust and habitual dependence. Between them, it had always been plain and ordinary, without deep love or passionate romance. All in all, there was far more kinship than love. Losing a loved one was certainly painful, but pain would fade, just as the heartache of losing Ji Dongquan eventually faded. No matter how painful, ti would erase that pain, and life would return to normal.
"...Can’t forget Brother Ji?" Mi Jing cautiously asked.
"It’s not that I can’t forget, it’s just that occasionally I dream about him." This was the deepest secret buried in Mi Wan’s heart. Whether before or now, she only shared this secret with Mi Jing.
"Sigh." Mi Jing sighed regrettably and helplessly, wanting to comfort Mi Wan but not knowing how. Twelve years had passed; was there still hope between her sister and Brother Ji?
If miracles exist, she truly hoped one would happen for her sister.
"Don’t sigh, life can’t be perfect. Compared to so people, I am already very happy." Mi Wan smiled contentedly.
"But I want you to be happier." Without thinking, these words just slipped out of Mi Jing’s mouth.
"Haha, you are my ’more happiness.’ Not everyone has such a cute sister like you." Mi Wan pinched Mi Jing’s nose and said with a smile, "Don’t worry, your sister is not a pitiable abandoned woman. Before long, soone will personally invite back to work."
Six years ago, when Mi Wan found out she was pregnant, she resolutely quit her job at the law firm, giving up her bright future and leaving the promotion opportunity to Song Guotao. She willingly left the workplace to beco a full-ti housewife.
In the past six years, Mi Wan had devoted most of her energy to her family and children, handling all trivial matters patiently, be it hosting Song Guotao’s relatives who ca by for money or help, or taking care of their daughter’s daily needs. She dealt with everything personally, never delegating or complaining.
Because of this, Mi Jing often felt distressed for Mi Wan. It was one thing to give up a good job, but to work like a servant without complaint was too much.
What virtues or abilities did Song Guotao possess to marry such a great wife like her sister?
He had obviously struck gold but didn’t know how to be grateful, let alone cherish her. What’s worse, he despised her!
In Mi Jing’s heart, Mi Wan held the highest place. She wasn’t just an elder sister; on Mi Jing’s journey of growing up, Mi Wan also played the roles of teacher, best friend, and partly a mother. So Mi Jing’s feelings for Mi Wan were even deeper than those for their parents.
