Upon hearing Claire’s words, Ethan Blackwood felt his mind explode.
Soplace else, where could that be?
His gaze fell on her damp little face, then slowly descended to Claire’s rosy lips.
Her teeth had bitten down hard, leaving faint bite marks and a rich color on her lips, as though she had put on bright lipstick.
Under the light, her lips glistened, the edges shimring with subtle brilliance.
With just a glance, Ethan’s Adam’s apple tightened involuntarily, and his lower abdon grew increasingly warm.
Claire was still looking at him with a perfectly innocent expression.
Having just cried hard, her cheeks, neck, and behind her ears were tinged with a rosy hue.
Her nose and the corners of her eyes had turned red.
Ethan rembered sothing like a drunken makeup look, but Claire, without makeup, was enough to make his heart flutter.
He held Claire’s face, his thumb gently stroking her lips, his voice hoarse and magnetic: "From where do you want to help ?"
Claire felt the warmth of his fingertips on her lips and suddenly reacted to Ethan’s intention...
Imdiately, she explained, a bit flustered, "You, you misunderstand, I wasn’t planning on using..."
Even if her face had thickened recently, she couldn’t bring herself to utter those two words.
Seeing her shy deanor, Ethan mischievously leaned over to tease her by her ear: "It seems Claire still has much to learn; should I teach you properly in the future?"
With just one move, this man could bring her to tears, yet his words left her both crying and laughing.
Knowing he was deliberately trying to amuse her, she gently punched his chest with her little fist: "You rascal."
The ends of her eyes were unconsciously charming.
As the atmosphere gradually eased, Ethan caught her hand, his voice soft and lingering: "Truthfully, do you want to try discussing it with ?"
The young girl cast a bewildered glance: "Huh? Discuss what?"
Ethan gazed intently into her eyes, word by word saying: "Discuss a sweet love affair."
Claire tilted her head, looking up at Ethan’s strikingly handso and well-defined face. When he focused on her entirely, it felt like being locked onto by radar; if he pressed the attack button, she’d be obliterated.
Just like the relationship between the two, ambiguous and fraught, only missing a thin veil to break through.
She and Ethan were just one step away.
Ethan gently caressed her soft cheeks, his voice tender: "Ms. Shaw actually feels sothing for too, don’t you?"
Claire bit her lip and said: "Yes, I’ve said before that being in bed with you makes feel delighted, especially when you work hard; I almost wish to die with you, but Ethan, apart from desire, I don’t have other feelings for you..."
Ethan, different from those immature guys, remained calm and reserved, unfazed by Claire’s rejection.
His deep eyes quietly gazed at her: "Hmm, I know."
He neither flew into a rage over her refusal like Owen Crawford nor used identity and power to suppress her.
Instead, he gently encouraged: "Go on."
Claire licked her lips and said: "Compared to all the n who’ve appeared beside these years, even Owen, my liking for you is the highest."
"I don’t deny you’re excellent and charming, practically the perfect man, but I’m different from normal won. Growing up in a hysterically extre family, I’m deeply afraid of humanity, n, and marriage. It took years to crawl out of that pit, fearing that one wrong step will plunge into irreversible agony, even deeper than before."
"Ethan, it hurts too much..."
The young girl looked at him tenderly, her voice thick with nasality, both obedient and pitiable, stirring compassion.
Ethan pressed her head against his chest, gently patting Claire’s back, softly soothing her: "I understand."
The young girl sobbed, "I’m sorry..."
"I can empathize with your feelings, but we really do click together well; this is an undeniable truth, isn’t it?"
"Yeah."
"I promise you I won’t pressure you with any conditions to accept , but I do hope you agree to one thing."
"What?" Claire lifted her head, eting Ethan’s tender eyes.
Looking down at her, he softly said: "Don’t reject my approach."
Claire froze, Ethan’s fingers gently stroked her hair, "You don’t need to take a single step; just obediently stay where you are, leave the rest to . Let’s first try, and if you wish to be my girlfriend in the future, that would be best. If not, I won’t force you, alright?"
Clearly, he was a qualified businessman; this deal was unprofitable and even at a loss.
"It’s not fair to you."
Ethan chuckled lightly: "Silly girl, fairness is for deals."
Speaking, he gently shook Claire’s slender wrist, "Just like before, you don’t have to contribute anything, just stand there, and if I make you unhappy, you can withdraw anyti without responsibility."
For Claire, it was like a pie falling from the sky, too afraid to accept.
The man lowered his head to kiss her neck, licking and teasing her earlobe, causing her breath to stumble, and then coaxing gently: "Isn’t it, Ms. Shaw?"
