If there was any trace of love hidden at the bottom corner of Alia's heart for Jerry, it vanished with those words that ca out from Gwen's lips.
"Pregnant!"
Alia echoed in her bitter heart, her eyes narrowing down to Gwen's flat stomach.
"How! It hasn't even been up to a month since they started having sex unless..."
Alia's eyes widened as a mory from four weeks ago flashed across her mind.
---
Gwen and Alia had gone for so accessories shopping against the wedding preparation. Afterwards, they both converged at Jerry's rental apartnt to enjoy so takeout food with him.
While they were eating, Alia got an urgent call from her company. She was forced to cut short her quality ti with her future spouse and stepsister. She left the apartnt in a hurry, picking up Gwen's handbag which was exactly the sa as hers. She only realized her mistake when she was searching for her car keys. It was at this point she accidentally stumbled across so pregnancy strips.
Hurrying back upstairs to get the right handbag, Alia confronted Gwen with her findings, but the latter lied through her teeth that she had gotten the pregnancy strip for her friend.
Believing the words of her stepsister, she didn't raise any dust about the issue. However during her bachelorette party a week later, Alia observed so awkward behavior from her step-sister.
Gwen, -who loved partying wild and drinking to a stupor, - was very cautious about her level of alcohol intake.
----
Back then none of this made sense to Alia. But now she understood why.
"So you have been sleeping with Jerry under my nose, all this while I thought you had my back?" Alia muttered inaudibly, her nails slowly digging into her soft palm as her clenched fist tightened.
"What did you say?" Gwen purred cutely, grinning wickedly as her stepsister's face slowly turned red.
"Alia, Let's go. They are not worth it. You have soone better." Stacy said softly, holding Alia on one of her clenched fist.
But Alia angrily wriggled her wrist from Stacy's hold, her darkened and cold gaze eting with those of Gwen's feigned subtle expressions.
"I gave you everything a true sister would, my heart, my love, my friendship, my ti, and even my money. And this is how you choose to repay ?" Alia's words were deep and heavy, laced with regret and unfathomable ire.
Muffled snickering and more jeering side comnts ca from most of Regina's friends, - who had been planted at the birthday party to ruin Alia's image before her father's friends.
"Amy, I thought we had put that behind us when you told I could marry Jerry. I still love you so much as my elder sister. That is why we both decided that you and your husband should be the godparents of our child." Gwen said in a sweet flattering tone, earning her more sympathetic comnts from most of the guests who were gathered around.
Alia wanted to scream at the top of her voice and push Gwen down. She wanted to hurt her so badly, but this would only make her the jealous evil sister that Gwen had been trying to paint to the public. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath before opening them to stare into Gwen's sowhat amused gaze.
Stacy's desperate attempt to pull Alia away from the trap set up for her by her wicked stepsister only yielded little results. So she spoke up in her bestie's defence.
"Gwen, haven't you done enough to your stepsister? Haven't you taken enough from her? As if stealing her man isn't bad enough, do you have to rub your fake pregnancy in her face."
"Watch your mouth Stacy and mind what you say to my wife," Jerry growled, wagging his finger threateningly. "I won't have you insult my wife in my presence or call our bundle of joy fake."
"Allow , honey." Gwen stepped in front of her husband, snarling. She slowly placed her right hand on her flat stomach and started stroking it delicately. "This right here is the fruit of a passionate love story. You wouldn't know what it feels like even if it hits you in the face."
"You..."
"What is going on here!" Pearl's high high-pitched voice interrupted Stacy, as she sauntered over to them holding a glass of fruit juice for Gwen. She handed the glass to Gwen before turning to face Alia, a mockery glint flashing across her eyes." I thought you two were already getting along."
"Alia's friend is calling my pregnancy fake, Aunty." Gwen sneered before taking sips of her juice.
"Fake? Sothing even Nana has confird with the family doctor?" Pearl snorted. "Please don't make laugh. Alia, you should know better." She tried to pat Alia on the shoulder but the latter shifted her body away.
" Gwen, I hope you reap a millionfold betrayal at the hands of the people whom you trust the most."
"Ah!" Gwen pretended to be bewildered as she cupped her opened mouth with one hand.
"Alia, that is a wicked thing to say." Pearl snapped angrily at Alia.
Regina's elite friends who were standing close by, had one or two nasty comnts for Alia. But Jerry's deep and chilly voice overshadowed theirs.
"Alia, don't be a heartless woman. That is not a nice thing to say to your pregnant sister. What if the baby heard you? You should be at least happy for us. Congratulation will be more appealing than hurling insults at us." Jerry's attempt at rebuking Alia only added more fuel to her inferno, just as he wanted.
"Congratulations?" Alia scoffed.
"Better. Thank you." Jerry smirked, feeling triumphant.
"In your dreams." Alia snarled, unable to contain the storm swirling inside of her. "I only feel sorry for that innocent child growing in your wife's toxic womb. You both do not deserve to be parents."
"Enough, Alia," Pearl yelled at her. "If you cannot simply congratulate your sister or at least be happy for her, then you are not welco in this happy gathering."
"Exactly!" A lady in a dazzling sequin lace dress with heavy makeup supported. "She's jealous of her sister's happiness and may plan to hurt her."
Alia glared dangerously at the woman, causing her to swallow her saliva and shrink backwards in fear.
"This is my father and late mother's house, Pearl," Alia said, exuding so much authority that Pearl couldn't match. "If there's anyone who deserves to leave. It will you, a low-life leech sniffing around for breadcrumbs."
"Ah! How dare you!" Pearl, emboldened by the sight of Desmond approaching, lifted her right hand to slap Alia.
