Chapter 126: Chapter 123: Hanging by a Thread
Li Zongtang and Chen Wenfu were keenly aware of this, but they never expected that of the many disciples lying dead on the ground, the Li and Chen Families would account for ninety percent of the casualties. The Wang Family had lost two mbers, and the Mu Family only one. This discovery made their expressions turn utterly grim.
Li Zongtang suddenly let out a cold laugh. "Heh, so the Emperor’s Relics were a lie, and this was all just a conspiracy. Patriarch Wang, you’ve really played your hand well!"
Chen Wenfu, his face contorted with rage, shouted, "Fine! Just fine! You Mu and Wang Families are sothing else! We’ll see about this!" With that, Chen Wenfu flicked his sleeve and led his six remaining family mbers out of the cavern. Li Zongtang followed close behind, though he had only four mbers left.
Mu Gu Tian was taken aback. "Brother Wang," he asked, "is this place really not the Emperor’s Relics?"
Wang Mo gave a wry smile. "Old Gu, if I had really plotted this, I would have told you. But this place truly is the Emperor’s Relics. Who knew the guard’s intelligence was faulty? It seems that instead of being randomly teleported upon entering the Illusion Realm, people are transford into other things—perhaps grass, a tree, or even a Magical Beast."
"I see," Mu Gu Tian said, his expression one of realization.
Just then, Mu Chen and Mufeng rushed over from the far side of the cavern. Mufeng frowned at the retreating figures of Chen Wenfu and Li Zongtang. "Father, Patriarch Wang, I suspect their two families will use this incident as an excuse to launch a surprise attack on us. We must get back as soon as possible."
Mu Yeqiu’s expression tightened. He nodded and said, "Feng’Er is right. We must return at once."
With that, everyone hurried out of the cavern, only to find that Chen Wenfu and Li Zongtang were already gone. Wang Mo sneered, "It seems Mufeng was right. Those two are dead set on tearing off all pretenses."
Mu Gu Tian grunted in agreent and said in a low voice, "There’s no ti to lose. Let’s go!" As he spoke, the Primordial Power fluctuations of a Martial Spirit erupted from him. A solid green Martial Ring materialized at his feet, and with a single step, his speed surged as he shot away like a bolt of lightning.
Wang Mo and his Elder exchanged a glance before they all streaked toward Luofeng City. Mufeng and Mu Chen followed close behind...
「Hours later」
By the ti dusk approached, Chen Wenfu and Li Zongtang had erged from the barrier of trees. Li Zongtang asked, puzzled, "Brother Chen, why didn’t we just kill them back in the cavern?"
Chen Wenfu shot Li Zongtang a look and chuckled. "Kill them? While you and I are both in the Martial Spirit Realm, there are only two of us. Wang Mo himself is a Martial Spirit Realm Martial Artist, and that old geezer Mu Gu Tian has reached the Peak of Nine-Ring Great Martial Master. Add Mufeng and the two Mu Family elders to the mix, and our chances of winning would be very low. Rather than take that risk, it’s better to save our strength, return, and rendezvous with Chen Li and Chen Fu. That way, we’ll have four Martial Spirits and can definitely overwhelm them. Besides..."
"Besides, we can use the incident at the Emperor’s Relics to claim the moral high ground. Our attack will seem justified, and not even the City Lord will be able to interfere. Hehe." The corner of Chen Wenfu’s mouth curved into a sinister smile.
Li Zongtang started, then clapped his hands. "Of course! Let’s fire the Signal Flare right away! We can catch them completely off guard." With a wave of his long sleeve, Li Zongtang sent a red ball of light soaring into the sky. With a BOOM, it exploded into a brilliant red flower.
As it turned out, Chen Wenfu had arranged everything in Luofeng City long before leaving for the Emperor’s Relics. He was just waiting for the expedition to end to launch his assault. Now was the perfect opportunity. With the upper echelons of the Wang and Mu families all at the Emperor’s Relics, their mansions would surely be left without any top experts to defend them.
The massive red firework could be seen from several distant towns, but only in Luofeng City did it elicit a major reaction. In a certain corner of the city, several hundred disciples from the Chen and Li Families, all at the Martial Master level or above, stood in neat formation. Before them were two old n in red robes: the Chen Family’s Grand Elder and Second Elder, Chen Fu and Chen Li.
The mont he saw the firework ascend, Chen Fu gave a savage grin and barked, "Everyone, advance and attack the Mu Mansion! It must be completely dismantled within the hour! Go!" At Chen Fu’s command, the five hundred-plus fighters all circulated their Primordial Power and leaped toward the Mu Mansion.
The streets of Luofeng City were exceptionally quiet today, as if everyone had a premonition of the impending bloodshed and not a single person dared to step outside.
The atmosphere in the Mu Mansion was also different from usual. The tall courtyard gates were shut tight, and it was so quiet inside you could hear a pin drop.
In the main hall of the Mu Mansion, Mu Guangyi stood on the high platform, having assembled a host of Mu Family Disciples at the Martial Master level and above. Looking down at the hundred disciples with resolute expressions, Mu Guangyi said calmly, "Elder Chang, have the won and children been safely evacuated?"
Elder Chang replied respectfully, "Grand Elder, they have all been safely moved to the secret passage. However, Miss Bingling insisted on staying to live or die with the family. I couldn’t stop her."
The words had barely left his mouth when a beautiful figure in white whistled through the entrance. Dressed in a white silk dress, the devastatingly beautiful Mu Bingling appeared in the hall. Mu Guangyi glared at her angrily and shouted, "Bing’Er, what are you doing back here? Leave at once! If anything should happen to the Mu Family, you are our only hope!"
But Mu Bingling replied with a grave expression, "Grand Elder, nothing will happen to , and nothing will happen to the Mu Family. Since I have the ability, I must fight for our family. Please, believe in !"
Seeing the determination in Mu Bingling’s eyes, Mu Guangyi knew the young woman would not change her mind. He sighed helplessly and barked, "Mu Hang, Mu Wen, Mu Wu! The three of you are to stay by Bing’Er’s side and protect her at all tis. You will not allow a single hair on her head to be hard unless you fall first. Otherwise, you will answer to !"
Mu Hang, Mu Wen, and Mu Wu were stunned for a mont, then shouted in unison, "Yes, sir!"
"Very good!" Mu Guangyi nodded, a cold light flashing in his eyes. He shouted, "Since we are prepared, everyone follow
to the training grounds! If the Chen and Li Families want to destroy our Mu Family, then they’d better be prepared to break their teeth trying! Follow !" As Mu Guangyi finished speaking, all the Mu Family disciples rose to their feet in unison, each standing ramrod straight.
But at that very mont, over five hundred outsiders were already standing in the Mu Mansion’s training grounds. Needless to say, these were the disciples of the Chen and Li Families. Contemptuous expressions and scornful smiles were plastered on every one of their faces. When they saw the Mu Family disciples erge, Chen Fu took a step forward and said loudly, "Well, well, if it isn’t Guangyi. Finally decided to show your face? I was starting to think you were just going to cower in there forever."
As soon as he finished speaking, all the mbers of the Chen and Li Families erupted in derisive laughter. In response, the faces of the Mu Family disciples turned red with burning rage, and they wished for nothing more than to charge forward and cut their enemies down.
Mu Guangyi, of course, knew this was a ploy to agitate them. He swept his gaze over his disciples and shouted, "Fools! Don’t let these bastards provoke you! Impulsiveness will only make you lose your heads!"
Then, Mu Guangyi scoffed. "And here I was wondering who it was. Turns out it’s the Fu Li Brothers. I heard you two went to the Brothel the day before yesterday but ca out in less than the ti it takes half an incense stick to burn. I an, at your age, you really shouldn’t be embarrassing yourselves like that. How do you think the poor girls you picked felt? Tell you what, I’ll send a couple of Cyan Tiger Whips to your residence another day. I guarantee they’ll help you reclaim your manly vigor. What do you say?"
"Hahaha..."
’You call us cowards, so I’ll call you impotent.’ It had to be said, Mu Guangyi was the more seasoned of the two. And what is the one thing a man cannot tolerate being told? That he "can’t perform."
Sure enough, after hearing Mu Guangyi’s words, the old faces of Chen Fu and Chen Li flushed crimson. The strange looks their own family mbers kept shooting them from behind made them wish the ground would open up and swallow them whole.
"Mu Guangyi! I’ll make you pay for humiliating ! Everyone, attack! Leave no one alive!"
With that, Chen Fu shot forward, locking onto Mu Guangyi and charging straight for him. A faint green Martial Ring materialized at his feet.
The Mu Family disciples were startled for a second when they saw the Martial Ring, but instead of retreating, they advanced. Before the mbers of the Chen and Li Families could reach them, they charged into their midst. Their coordination was seamless; often two or three of them would attack a single opponent, and after felling one, they would imdiately flash away to lock onto the next.
The Mu Family instantly seized control of the opening clash. The Chen and Li Families were thrown into disarray by the Mu Family’s desperate, all-out fighting style. Chen Li roared, "Don’t panic! Show them your true strength! The Mu Family is nothing but a disorganized mob! Don’t forget, the number one piece of trash in Luofeng City ca from here! Are you really going to be afraid of a family of trash?"
The mont his voice fell, a loud BANG echoed from where Mu Guangyi and Chen Fu were fighting. Chen Fu was sent flying backward, a mouthful of blood spraying from his lips. Seeing this, Chen Li cried out in alarm, "Brother Fu!"
Chen Fu stumbled back several ters before steadying himself. He stared at Mu Guangyi in utter shock and exclaid, "You... you’ve advanced to the Martial Spirit Realm! And you’re at the Peak of One-Ring Martial Spirit! This is impossible! How could the Mu Family possibly have a Martial Spirit expert?"
Chen Fu’s cry was so loud that, in an instant, all the Mu Family disciples beca ecstatic.
"Our family has a Martial Spirit expert too! So what the hell are we afraid of? Damn it, brothers, charge!" one of the Mu Family disciples yelled, taking the lead and rushing forward. He slamd a fist into the chest of a Li Family disciple, sending blood spraying. The Li disciple’s eyes rolled back as he collapsed, unconscious. That single punch completely ignited the morale of the Mu Family disciples, and their spirits soared.
Suddenly, a violent wave of Primordial Power swept out. Chen Li let out a great roar, and the surrounding Mu Family disciples were all knocked away by the blast. Another green Martial Ring appeared—another One-Ring Martial Spirit expert. This sudden developnt changed the rhythm of the battle on the training grounds. Chen Li was like a fierce lion charging into a flock of sheep; every strike he made claid the life of a Mu Family disciple.
Mu Guangyi saw what was happening and grew anxious, but he was in a bind. Although he had landed a heavy blow on Chen Fu while he was being careless, the punch hadn’t taken him out of the fight. Chen Fu quickly re-engaged him, tying him up in battle once more.
"Overlord Fist! HAH!"
Chen Fu roared as Primordial Power instantly enveloped his fist. An earthy-yellow phantom of a fist ford, whistling through the air as it shot toward Mu Guangyi.
Startled, Mu Guangyi circulated his Primordial Power and let out a low shout, "Beast King Fist!"
As his Primordial Power condensed, the lifelike phantom of a White Tiger’s head appeared over his fist. He threw the punch, and with a ferocious roar, it collided with Chen Fu’s Overlord Fist. The resulting shockwave forced both n back a step. Mu Guangyi’s face rely paled slightly, but Chen Fu coughed up another mouthful of blood.
