Pei Yu must have just co from so formal event, dressed in a fitted black suit, his short hair neatly styled, revealing his complete brows and eyes, which made him look sowhat unfamiliar and colder than usual.

Shen Zhiyi, held firmly in his embrace, her arm resting on his shoulder, innocently said, "No, I never said such a thing."

She was staying in the Qin family’s guest room, which was not very spacious. Pei Yu set her down on the dressing table, raised an eyebrow leisurely, and asked, "Then how co I heard Qin Fang say you wanted to break up with ?"

Qin Fang?

Shen Zhiyi hadn’t expected the rumor to have co from him. After a brief thought, it all beca clear. It must have been Qin Xiaoran who shared their conversation with Qin Fang, then the story unwittingly transford into sothing else.

"It’s not what you think," she wasn’t too keen to bring up the matter and gently touched his smooth chin to change the subject, "Will you go to school tomorrow?"

Pei Yu said he would, took her hand and kissed it, then brought the conversation back, "Then what do you an?"

Shen Zhiyi looked into his dark, clear eyes, pursing her lips and falling silent.

She had been so clear-headed and rational while talking to Qin Xiaoran, but when facing Pei Yu, she would subconsciously avoid the topic and didn’t want to talk about the future.

"I’m a bit sleepy," she leaned against Pei Yu’s shoulder and complained in a soft voice, "There’s so much howork lately, I’m not getting enough sleep."

"Don’t be coy," Pei Yu wrapped his arm around her waist, unmoved, "Be clear."

Realizing she couldn’t avoid the topic, Shen Zhiyi beca slightly upset.

With her eyes downcast and silent, she looked calm and obedient, but Pei Yu discovered her stubbornness through her deanor and sighed softly, pinching her earlobe, "I’ve never discussed the future with you, not because I’m giving you free rein to speculate wildly, but because I feel that there are still many things to sort out, and I don’t know how to start discussing them with you."

Shen Zhiyi slowly lifted her long lashes, her expression a mix of confusion and numbness.

"Zhizhi," the young man leaned in and kissed her lips, "There will never be a day when we part."

His voice was low as he nibbled on her lip, "Trust , okay?"

Pei Yu was accustod to actions rather than words, and didn’t like to waste the ti he shared with Shen Zhiyi on ssy situations—even if it concerned their future, he still didn’t elaborate further.

Shen Zhiyi didn’t know what he planned to do and didn’t quite understand his intentions, but after thinking for a while, she nodded her head, placing her complete trust in him.

"Okay."

Pei Yu smiled, hugged her body close, and bent down to kiss her again.

After spending ti together on and off, on Christmas Day, Pei Yu went to a birthday banquet in the harbor for an elder relative, leaving a gift for Shen Zhiyi in advance and telling her they would et tomorrow.

Because of this, Shen Zhiyi was in high spirits this Christmas. She exchanged presents with a few friends and left the school laughing and chatting.

A well-dressed man resembling a secretary approached them. Qin Xiaoran recognized him and exclaid in surprise, "Aren’t you Uncle Pei’s secretary?"

Why would he be here?

The secretary nodded, greeted her, and then looked at Shen Zhiyi, "Sir would like to have dinner with you, Miss Shen, would you be available?"

Shen Zhiyi was stunned. She had only seen Pei Yu’s father at banquets and never had more interactions with him. There was no reason for him to know her, except for one thing.

She almost imdiately understood why Pei Yu’s father wanted to see her.

Qin Xiaoran had the sa thought, her face turning pale as she stamred, "I haven’t seen Uncle Pei in a long ti, could, could I co too?"

The secretary smiled briefly and shook his head, "Sir has only invited Miss Shen for this evening."

Shen Zhiyi and Qin Xiaoran exchanged glances and then silently got into the secretary’s car.

Along the way, Shen Zhiyi felt uneasy, and her previously good mood had vanished.

She had long been prepared to break up with Pei Yu, yet she hadn’t expected the day to co so swiftly.

A short while later, Shen Zhiyi t Pei Yu’s father in the restaurant.

He bore so resemblance to Pei Yu in his brows and eyes, much gentler than Pei Yu, always smiling, friendly and approachable, but Shen Zhiyi felt a chill run through her body, restlessly uncomfortable in her seat.

The dinner lasted an hour, and when Shen Zhiyi got ho, Qin Xiaoran imdiately rushed over to ask about the situation.

"Did Uncle Pei pressure you to break up with Pei Yu?"

Shen Zhiyi’s gaze was vacant, "He didn’t bring up the matter."

"Ah?" Qin Xiaoran was also stunned, "Then what did you two talk about?"

"He inquired about how I was doing at the Shen Family, ntioned that he was good friends with my adoptive parents, and that they nearly married their second daughter to my adoptive parents’ son. He also asked about my studies, what I planned to do for work in the future."

Not a word was ntioned about Pei Yu; it was like the normal concern of a senior family mber for a younger one.

Qin Xiaoran was perplexed, "What does Uncle Pei an by this?"

Shen Zhiyi shook her head; she too was puzzled when Pei Yu’s father asked her these questions and could only respond obediently, her initial nervous trepidation giving way to blank confusion. Subconsciously, she felt this was probably the way these important figures softened the blow in a more subtle and dignified manner.

Qin Xiaoran felt the sa way; otherwise, there was no reason for Pei Yu’s father, with his status, to suddenly arrange a private eting with Shen Zhiyi. The endings they had preliminarily foreseen were about to beco reality, and she didn’t know how to comfort Shen Zhiyi, so she silently remained seated beside her for a while.

"Did you talk to Brother Pei Yu?"

Shen Zhiyi looked down, "No."

How was she supposed to ntion this to Pei Yu?

Qin Xiaoran didn’t know what would be best to do either.

That night, Shen Zhiyi was flipping through her phone, hesitating over whether to contact Pei Yu. If she didn’t speak now, she didn’t know if they could even see each other tomorrow.

Just when she had resolved to make a decision, her room door was knocked. It was Madam Shen.

"Zhiyi," she said gently, "there’s sothing I need to discuss with you. Could you co downstairs? Your uncle is also here."

Shen Zhiyi was startled, her face turning pale in an instant.

Did her adoptive parents know about this too?

Downstairs, Mr. and Mrs. Shen were quietly waiting for her to co down, looking like they had sothing important to discuss.

Facing them, Shen Zhiyi felt a tangle of complex emotions, fearful that her actions would disappoint them. She sat down opposite them without saying a word, feeling an indescribable tornt.

"Zhiyi," Madam Shen started, cutting to the chase, "We want to talk to you about you and Pei Yu."

Shen Zhiyi was clutching her fingers, closed her eyes for a mont, "I will talk to him—"

"We had lunch with Pei Yu’s father at noon. He discussed with us and proposed that you and Pei Yu get engaged. Would you be willing?"

The words that Shen Zhiyi hadn’t finished got stuck in her throat as she blankly stared at them, doubting if she had heard wrong.

Not breaking up, but engagent?

Madam Shen watched her with an expectant look in her eyes, as if eager to hear her reply.

"Zhiyi, are you willing?"

"I," Shen Zhiyi was dizzy, as if in a dream, "I am willing."
