Huating.

Breakfast ti. The Pei siblings had already begun their al when Father Pei folded the newspaper and casually asked, "How are the Qin siblings recovering from their injuries?"

Pei Yu replied indifferently, "They are able to attend school normally now."

"That’s good," Father Pei said, looking down, "I heard that Shen Zhiyi, the adopted girl from the Shen family, was also in the car. Are you close to her?"

Pei Yu remained aloof, "So-so."

The eldest sister joined the conversation, "It’s just an adopted daughter, she’s not worth Pei Yu’s concern. I thought the daughter from the Huo family was quite good, too bad we couldn’t tie the red string."

She smiled and asked, "Does Pei Yu have any other girls in mind?"

They were all married, their spouses coming from similar social standings. When it ca to Pei Yu, however, an unexpected connection with the Huo family had surfaced. Though they smiled on the surface, behind the scenes, they were all scheming to break off this marriage, hoping that Pei Yu would find a less suitable match.

Pei Yu stood up and gave her an indifferent glance, "Anyone will do."

He turned around, "I’m off to school."

The table went silent for a few seconds until the eldest sister turned to Father Pei and asked, "Dad, which family’s girl do you think would suit Pei Yu?"

Father Pei knew very well what his children were up to. He had refrained from intervening because he felt that Pei Yu’s edge was too sharp. If a dominant in-law family ca into the picture, Pei Yu would only grow stronger. So, he turned a blind eye.

He sipped his tea and said lightly, "I don’t know much about these juniors. You, as his elder siblings, could pay more attention."

The eldest sister chuckled imdiately, knowing that on this matter, Father Pei didn’t stand with Pei Yu. Since he had given her the go-ahead, she would definitely aim lower, choosing a less capable partner from the Yue family for Pei Yu.

Even though no one spoke openly about these roundabout sches, Pei Yu was very clear about them in his heart.

During the break, Pei Yu left the teacher’s office with Qin Fang, just as Qin Xiaoran and Shen Zhiyi, who had bought so snacks, arrived.

He paused slightly as he brushed past Shen Zhiyi, subtly touching the back of her hand hanging at her side. The young girl looked up, her eyes bright.

After walking a few steps with Qin Xiaoran, Shen Zhiyi found an excuse to part ways with her and headed to the third music classroom.

Soone was playing the violin in the classroom next door. She gently pushed open the door and saw the figure of a young man standing beside the piano.

The midday sun was just right, casting a light golden hue on the boy’s pale side profile as he turned his head around upon hearing her, extending his hand.

"I only have ten minutes," Shen Zhiyi walked over and was pulled into Pei Yu’s embrace, "I still have papers to write."

Even after their relationship had been established, the two did not et often, keeping their private interactions low-key. Shen Zhiyi could guess a little, aware that it was due to his family circumstances, so she didn’t ask much.

Pei Yu humd in response, gently lifting her by the waist and seating her on the piano cover before leaning in to kiss her.

Shen Zhiyi tilted her head back, her fingers instinctively clutching the hem of his shirt, her eyelashes fluttering lightly as he parted her lips.

His lips were soft, his breath warm. They had only kissed a few tis, and Shen Zhiyi was not yet accustod to it. She accidentally bumped his lip and tasted a hint of iron.

Pei Yu paused for a mont, tightening his hold around her waist, pressing her firmly against himself, kissing her deeper.

Ten minutes later, the normally immaculate shirt Pei Yu wore was crumpled by Shen Zhiyi’s hands. She straightened it guiltily, only to find that Pei Yu didn’t seem to mind at all. He leaned against her neck, breathing heavily, a touch of displeasure in his voice, "I’m flying to Australia tomorrow."

Shen Zhiyi: "How many days?"

Pei Yu raised his head and kissed her slightly swollen lips, "Four days."

"Okay," Shen Zhiyi hugged him of her own volition, "It’s okay."

Pei Yu held her quietly for a while, then promised, "I won’t be this busy in the future."

He was facing too many obstacles in his current endeavors, which were both ti-consuming and strenuous. Fu Songzhi advised him to take it slow, but Pei Yu was always driven by an inexplicable sense of urgency, wanting to quickly resolve the troubles blocking his path, those people from the Pei Family, that ss—they were the last things he wanted Shen Zhiyi to touch.

Shen Zhiyi stroked his hair; the young man had a cold look in his eyes, like a chunk of ice that was hard to lt, yet his hair was soft.

"Alright."

Her eyes curved into a smile.

Except for the Qin siblings and Fu Songzhi, nobody knew about her relationship with Pei Yu. Shen Zhiyi had thought about telling her adoptive parents, but she was worried that they would think she was dating too early and it would affect her studies, which isn’t what a good student should do.

So, in the eyes of her adoptive parents, the reason she was always running to the Qin family’s house was that she was close friends with Qin Xiaoran. In truth, Shen Zhiyi was rely using this as a chance to et Pei Yu.

When Pei Yu was not around, Shen Zhiyi seldom stayed over at the Qin’s house, but before he returned to the country, he would tell her the dates, and if she could find ti, she would stay at the Qin’s. Pei Yu would find excuses to co over to see her under the pretext of visiting Qin Fang.

With the Qin siblings covering for them, their secretive romance was both hidden and smooth.

That day, Shen Zhiyi brought her howork over to see Qin Xiaoran, who squinted her eyes the mont she saw Shen Zhiyi and, realizing sothing, said, "Is Brother Pei Yu coming today?"

"Not sure," Shen Zhiyi was now very familiar with her and wasn’t afraid of being teased, saying with a smile, "He said he might co."

So, she ca to the Qin’s to wait first.

"You two are sothing else, having to sneak around even for a romance," Qin Xiaoran comnted, munching on a few chips, and then suddenly said, "Zhiyi, I’m saying this because I consider you a good friend. Brother Pei Yu’s family situation... His secret relationship with you isn’t because the school doesn’t allow it, but because of his family, even after you graduate, it will be very difficult for you two to be openly together."

Shen Zhiyi flipped a page in her book, "I know."

"What are you thinking then?"

"I’m not thinking anything," Shen Zhiyi said earnestly, "I just want to focus on my studies. As for the thing with Pei Yu, if the ti cos for us to part, then we will part."

What she had wanted most in the past was to change to a calr living environnt, which she now had. Her adoptive parents hadn’t mistreated her, and she should properly repay their kindness. As for love, the gap between her and Pei Yu was so large that parting seed inevitable, and she wouldn’t be the first to give up on Pei Yu, but if Pei Yu chose to let go, she would accept it calmly and end the relationship.

Qin Xiaoran smacked her lips, watching her, "You are so rational that I don’t even know what to say."

She had nothing left to say to Shen Zhiyi, but she repeated their conversation to Qin Fang with a sigh.

That night, Shen Zhiyi received a ssage before bed, knew that Pei Yu had co, and excitedly ran downstairs. She hadn’t even reached the stairs when Pei Yu, who had already co to find her, scooped her up with an outstretched hand, supporting her hips and lifting her. The young man’s body carried a pleasant light fragrance, mixed with a hint of the coolness of the night.

He raised an eyebrow, carrying her towards the room, "I heard you’re breaking up with ?"

Shen Zhiyi froze.

Who had started that rumor?
