Chapter 549: Rank 11 Human Emperor Projection
Liora felt speechless.
She couldn’t understand why the members of the Human Temple enjoyed conducting blood sacrifices so much.
If anyone didn’t know any better, they would have believed that they were the Devils instead.
From the Elder’s earlier speech, Liora understood how much this woman admired the Human Emperor and that she truly wished the best for humanity.
Yet, before the battle between them had even started, the Elder had gone berserk.
Without any hesitation, she had decided to sacrifice the Imperial Capital and the millions of people residing in it all in order to deal with Liora.
The result was exactly what one would expect.
The essence of millions of people poured into the Elder’s body, causing her power to soar.
As she waved her scepter and activated her talent—Historical Projection—once more, a new phantom materialized.
This time, it was of a person Liora was very familiar with.
She had seen its statues all over the continent and had been looking at the other person ever since she entered the chamber.
It was the Human Emperor!
With his face obscured and imperial robes draped over his body, he looked both holy and fierce.
An aura of humanity emanated from his body, but beneath it lurked a well-concealed bloodlust.
Clearly, despite what the Elder’s earlier words would suggest, the Human Emperor was not exactly kind. Or rather, he was not kind to the enemies of the human race.
The number of creatures that had perished at his hands was estimated to be in the millions.
“Haven’t you wondered why everyone chose me as the sole survivor?”, the Elder suddenly spoke.
“Do you think it’s because I’m a woman and they pitied me?”
She shook her head.
“No. It’s because I’m the only one with the power to suppress everything and everyone on the continent! As long as I’m here, I can forever stabilize the human race’s condition!”
As she spoke, the Elder dropped to one knee and bowed respectfully toward the Human Emperor’s phantom.
“Your Majesty, please…”, she said.
Although the Human Emperor’s face lacked vitality, he still moved as though in response to her words.
In reality, this was the Elder secretly manipulating him.
It was just that her admiration for this person made it impossible for her to believe this.
Regardless, the result was the same.
The Human Emperor’s figure that had just materialized reached toward his waist and unsheathed the sword hanging from it.
Then, in a quick motion, he slashed forward.
His movements were unnatural, as though it were the first time he had ever held a sword.
Yet beneath this ordinary strike, Liora sensed a formidable power.
For a split second, she had the illusion that she was not facing a single person, but the entire human race.
Rank 11 bat power!
In Devil terms, the phantom’s power had reached the Ancient Devil stage!
Alarm bells immediately rang out in Liora’s heart.
She didn’t try to face the slash head-on, knowing that this would directly seal her fate.
Instead, she took a step back. An illusory river emerged behind her as its waves rolled over and washed over her.
Within moments, the Snake of Time had devoured her figure. As its waves resumed, the two disappeared pletely.
The next second, the sword slash finally landed at the spot where Liora had just stood.
The floor of the chamber—reinforced with precious materials and engraved with countless formations—instantly shattered.
Space itself broke apart around it. The Human Temple’s demi-plane appeared unable to withstand the impact of the blow.
An intense tremor ran through its entirety, manifesting as earthquakes and other natural disasters.
The fearful screams of the temple’s members reached the Elder’s ears, causing a rare emotion of hesitation to flash across her face.
The next instant, however, this hesitation disappeared, replaced by indifferent determination.
She controlled the Human Emperor to slash forward once again. Then, both figures stepped into the gap in the space and chased after their opponent.
Only her lingering voice remained in the demi-plane, echoing throughout the Human Temple’s headquarters.
“The Human Temple is under attack!”
“Everyone should enter the Human Shrine as soon as possible. The higher-ups should assist in the evacuation.”
—
When the Snake of Time materialized again, it was no longer in the demi-plane. It had appeared on the continent outside.
Its surface trembled violently as Liora emerged from its waters.
As she landed on the ground, her pale face became visible. Several scars ran along her skin.
Although blood constantly flowed through the wounds and tried to weave them together, the process ultimately proved impossible.
It was as if the wound itself had been “anchored” into her state and would exist forever.
“It deserves to be a Rank 11 Awakener…”
“Although Awakeners do not possess the power of time like Ancient Devils, each of their attacks carries an influence of a similar level.”
“Only Rank 11 Awakeners can fight against Rank 11 Awakeners, just as only Ancient Devils can contend with Ancient Devils.”, Liora concluded.
However, she didn’t panic.
The Hollow Ancestor’s influence had made her struggle in the past, shattering the Snake of Time technique and making her unable to resist for any longer.
Thankfully, Liora was no longer the same person—both in terms of her own strength, and in regard to the Snake of Time itself.
The waves of the illusory river washed over her body once again.
This time, they didn’t swallow her figure, but merged with her and mended her wounds from inside.
Within a split second, the scars on Liora’s body had vanished.
Even so, she didn’t pause to celebrate.
The moment after she recovered, the space above her head cracked, and two figures stepped out.
A female, wearing a long priest’s robe, and a male, adorned in imperial clothes that only an emperor was qualified to wear.
The former pointed forward while the latter followed her guidance.
Another slash tore through the air, aiming to harvest Liora’s life.
In a hurry, Liora could only activate her abilities to evade. Time froze for a split second, during which she slipped away.
The Elder could only chase after her, unwilling to give any chance to this Otherworld Demon to escape.
—
Meanwhile, the chaos brought by the Human Emperor’s outburst had receded within the demi-plane.
Still, the remaining Human Temple’s members did as instructed.
Under the mands of the higher-ups, they were led into the core of the demi-plane: the Human Shrine.
Among them was a young woman with long red hair and crimson eyes.
Although she wore the same panicked expression as everyone else, her eyes were cold as she stepped into the Human Shrine.
