"lissa Greenwood agreed," Yolanda Greenwood began slowly, "in a week, she’ll handle her situation and co to pick up May."
Although Brooks Parker had expected lissa Greenwood to agree, actually hearing Yolanda say so finally made him sigh with relief, "Thank you."
"Why thank ?" Yolanda turned to look at him, "Does Senior Brother Brooks really bear to part with May?"
Brooks Parker was silent for a while before he managed a wry smile, "Didn’t the ancients say, ’The love of a parent for a child involves making plans for the distant future’? I’m not entitled to be reluctant."
"What about May, then?" Yolanda could see that May had deep feelings for Brooks Parker, "Would she be willing?"
"She’s still young, she doesn’t understand," Brooks Parker chuckled softly, "I, as a father, can’t afford to be so unaware."
The two didn’t speak again. Yolanda knew that even if Brooks Parker was unwilling, this was still the best approach for May.
On the way back, Brooks Parker repeatedly instructed Yolanda, "Don’t tell May about this."
"How long can you keep it from her?"
"As long as I can." Brooks Parker pleaded with her, "Please."
"Alright." Yolanda handed Brooks Parker his coat and went back to her place.
As soon as she entered the room, she saw Leah Diaz hurriedly wiping away tears, with a cell phone on the coffee table in front of her that seed to have just been used for a call.
"Sister Leah, what’s wrong? Is it Little Wood..." Yolanda quickly approached and sat next to Leah Diaz.
"It’s nothing, Little Wood is fine." Leah Diaz said, though tears still stread down her face, obviously still very upset.
"Sister Leah, do you need money?" Yolanda grabbed Leah Diaz’s hand, "You can tell , I can help think of a solution."
"It’s not that." Leah Diaz shook her head.
"Sister Leah, since I’ve been here, you’ve taken care of , and after so long, I’ve co to see you as a sister," Yolanda said earnestly, "If you need help, don’t hesitate to tell . I really don’t want to see you this upset."
"Yolanda, I really miss Little Wood," Leah Diaz could no longer control her emotions and hugged Yolanda.
Yolanda was sowhat puzzled, "Is he still in the ICU? Or is he unable to video call?"
Leah Diaz nodded, "Yes, my family said it’s not convenient."
"Why would that be?" Yolanda found it increasingly strange. Leah Diaz’s family could easily send her videos, so why wouldn’t they want to?
She had a vague feeling that sothing was amiss, "Sister Leah, which hospital is Little Wood in? Maybe I can ask a friend to check on him."
Leah Diaz shook her head, "Ordinary people can’t get into the ICU, and even my friends back ho can’t help."
Yolanda asked again, "Which hospital is it?"
Leah Diaz told her.
"I know soone at that hospital. Maybe they can help." Yolanda quickly called Jenny Reyes.
Jenny Reyes was quite surprised to receive Yolanda’s call, "Little one, didn’t you go to Arica? How do you have ti to call ?"
"Sister Reyes, I have a favor to ask of Dr. Sterling," Yolanda got straight to the point, rembering that Jenny Reyes’s husband, Ryan Sterling, worked at the sa hospital as Little Wood.
"Looking for him?" Jenny Reyes didn’t want to delay and passed the phone to the person next to her.
Ryan Sterling promised to check the ICU after hearing Yolanda’s description the next day.
Yolanda hastily relayed this news to Leah Diaz before returning to her conversation with Jenny Reyes, not expecting to learn that Jenny Reyes was also two months pregnant.
They talked for a while until Ryan Sterling took the phone, saying that long phone calls were not good for the fetus, and they had to hang up.
Knowing that Jenny Reyes was still so happy, Yolanda felt much better herself.
Elsewhere, Cooper Coldson was working overti at the company, with an anxious lissa Greenwood by his side.
Finally, when they were finished, they went for dinner together.
"Cooper," lissa’s face was full of longing, "I’ve t with several friends recently, haven’t I?"
"Yeah." Cooper replied indifferently.
"Most of them have beco mothers, and their babies are so cute," lissa said, observing Cooper’s reaction as she spoke.
Cooper remained unemotional, "A child’s cuteness is only temporary. Most of the ti, they are endlessly crying and causing trouble. As they grow, you continue to worry. From an economic standpoint, having children is pretty much a loss-making venture."
"..." lissa didn’t expect Cooper to say that. Did this man really not have any desire for children?
She thought for a bit before speaking again, "But children are ultimately the bond of their parents’ affection. Besides, most parents take pride in their children and don’t regret having them."
Cooper frowned at her, "Parents don’t regret it only because they don’t want to negate themselves, since children represent their continuance. To negate the children would an admitting their own failure."
"..." lissa was once again at a loss for words.
Her voice faltered with disappointnt, "Cooper, do you dislike children that much?"
"What are you trying to do?" Cooper lost his patience.
"I..." lissa hesitated before speaking in a pitiful voice, "Cooper, even if we can’t have our own children, we could adopt one."
She looked at Cooper excitedly, "After we’re married, having a child in the house would make it livelier."
"Not interested." Cooper’s rejection was blunt and decisive, "I don’t like the bustle either."
"..." lissa bit her lip, realizing Cooper truly detested children to an extre.
How was she going to adopt Little May then?
Cooper Coldson’s rejection of lissa Greenwood’s request to adopt a child, however, inadvertently made him think of Yolanda Greenwood’s swelling belly.
He had heard that Yolanda was pregnant with twins—wouldn’t that an double the trouble and financial loss in the future?
Yet for so reason, if it was Yolanda’s children, Cooper actually found himself yearning for the days he could spend with them.
When he realized he had this thought, Cooper abruptly slamd on the brakes.
"Ah!" lissa was startled, "Cooper, what’s wrong?"
"Don’t ever bring up the matter of children again," Cooper warned her with a stern face.
"Okay, I got it." lissa didn’t dare to disagree, "You don’t like it, I won’t ntion it again."
After returning to the hotel, lissa called Brooks Parker and arranged to et him the next day.
Early the next morning, the two went to a café. As soon as they t, lissa slapped Brooks Parker across the face.
"Are you crazy? You actually conspired with Yolanda?" She sneered contemptuously, "Brooks Parker, you wouldn’t still have thoughts about Yolanda, would you?"
Brooks Parker wiped the corner of his mouth and chuckled, "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"You think I don’t know?" lissa laughed derisively, "Do you think I sought you out all those years ago because you were good enough?"
"What do you an?" Brooks Parker looked at her incredulously.
"I’ll tell you the truth," lissa said disdainfully, "I chose you because... I knew you had feelings for Yolanda."
She pursed her lips, "So, you see, you owe what you have today to —or rather, to Yolanda."
