In the teahouse, Jaxon Greenwood and Yolanda Greenwood booked a private room.
"Uncle, did you find out anything?" Yolanda got straight to the point without any small talk.
Jaxon frowned, "Yolanda, what do you actually know?"
Yolanda didn’t reply, only looking at Jaxon, waiting for him to answer her question.
"I’m afraid I might disappoint you," Jaxon tugged at the corner of his mouth, "I found nothing."
As expected.
Yolanda clenched her teeth. lissa wouldn’t leave any clues, and just when she felt utterly hopeless, she heard Jaxon continue, "But the more that happens, the more I suspect there is an issue."
Yolanda looked at him, surprised.
"There are only two possibilities: either we’re all overthinking it, or..." Jaxon paused, then slowly continued, "the person responsible is right by and Eldest Aunt. She can act without a trace and also destroy evidence without a trace."
Yolanda’s heart leapt to her throat, and she asked anxiously, "Uncle... do you suspect anyone?"
"I know you suspect lissa." Jaxon scrutinized Yolanda, "But lissa is our daughter; she has no reason to do these things."
For a mont, Yolanda felt an impulse to reveal everything but managed to restrain herself.
She asked Jaxon, "Then what do you plan to do next, Uncle? Just let it go?"
"Of course not; I will continue searching." Jaxon’s eyes were resolute, "To find the truth, a truth that will convince everyone."
Yolanda nodded; that was for the best.
She finally reminded Jaxon, "Uncle, whether or not you suspect lissa, rember not to let her know you are investigating this."
Jaxon gave a wry smile, "Didn’t you used to love following lissa around? Why are you so wary of her now? Is it because she took Cooper Coldson from you?"
"Uncle, think what you want, whether you think I’m neurotic or jealous of lissa, but please rember what I said," Yolanda insisted.
"Alright," Jaxon agreed.
After they parted ways, Jaxon went ho, not expecting to find lissa there.
"Dad, you’re back." lissa smiled as she approached, observing Jaxon’s expression, "Where have you been?"
"I t an old friend," Jaxon evaded lissa’s gaze with an ambiguous response.
"Which old friend? Do I know them?" lissa affectionately took Jaxon’s hand, gauging his reaction.
Jaxon hesitated for a mont before lying, "You don’t know them."
"Oh." lissa appeared to understand but was seething inside.
She let go of Jaxon’s arm and deliberately said, "Mom is gone; it’s good for you to et old friends more often, might cheer you up a bit."
A touch of sorrow flashed in Jaxon’s eyes; he struggled for a mont before speaking again, "This friend, he’s a forr detective."
"Oh?" lissa sat on the sofa, her eyebrows raised in evident amusent, "What? Asking you for help with a case?"
"He said there was sothing suspicious about your mom’s death," Jaxon kept his eyes on lissa.
lissa’s action of sipping tea paused, she quickly frowned then turned to Jaxon, "Do you think there’s a problem too?"
"What do you think?" Jaxon sat next to lissa, "Your mother was already discharged from the hospital, why would she..."
"Wasn’t it because she was donating blood for Yolanda?" lissa put down her teacup, her tone clearly impatient, "I had advised Mom at the ti, I don’t know what got into her."
She looked at Jaxon, "Maybe to you and together, we still don’t asure up to Yolanda."
"But if the hospital accepted her blood donation, it ans at least there was no life-threatening risk; otherwise, how could they dare?" Jaxon pressed on.
"Dad, you really can’t keep doing this." lissa stood up, planning to leave, "Mom is gone, dead, she won’t co back. Holding onto this, will it bring Mom back?"
Jaxon watched in disbelief as lissa got up, and he stood up, slapping her hard across the face.
"How could you say sothing like that?"
As a daughter, knowing there might be a hidden truth about her mother’s death, shouldn’t she help investigate? How could she even stop her father from investigating?
"Am I wrong?" lissa covered her face, her eyes reddening as she looked at Jaxon, "Dad, you think after living around Mom for most of your life, now that she’s gone, you want to keep harping on it? If you really can’t let go, then maybe..."
You might as well join her underground!
"Get out!" Jaxon raised his hand but ultimately couldn’t bring himself to hit her again.
"Do you think I wanted to co back?" lissa grabbed her things, not looking back as she left.
She guessed that Jaxon must have recognized Yolanda by now, and that they were gathering evidence against her, which was despicable.
She imdiately ssaged Eliana Reed, [Eliminate Jaxon Greenwood, fast!]
After lissa left, Jaxon collapsed back onto the sofa, his heart wrenching as he stared at the portrait of Gemma Morgan hanging on the opposite wall.
He stood up, took down the portrait, and placed it on the sofa, then sat beside it, as if he and his wife were together again, just like countless tis before.
"Honey, you knew I couldn’t live without you, how could you bear to leave alone?"
In the photo, Gemma Morgan still bore her bright youthful look, her lips and eyes filled with a deep smile.
"Honey, don’t take lissa’s words to heart, she’s just worried about , but... how could I let go if there might still be sothing to your death?"
Jaxon took the photo, wiped it clean, and then held it tightly in his embrace, "Honey, I really miss you so much!"
However, that night, Yolanda dread of Gemma Morgan.
"Did Yolanda eat and sleep well?" Gemma Morgan still bore that gentle deanor, looking at Yolanda with complete fondness.
Yolanda nodded vigorously, "I’ve been living well, Eldest Aunt, how about you? Are you okay there?"
"What did you call ?" Gemma looked sowhat angry.
Yolanda hesitated for a mont then softly said, "Mom!"
"Good girl." Gemma smiled blissfully, "Mom is fine here, you don’t need to worry, but it’s you and your dad, Mom always worries about you."
"Don’t worry, Mom, Dad is fine."
Gemma shook her head, "I always think about whether I should take him with ."
Yolanda suddenly beca anxious, "Mom, please don’t take Dad away, okay? I want to spend more ti with him."
She had already lost her mother and did not want to lose her father too. Even though they had not yet recognized each other, as long as he was still alive, she could feel happiness.
"Can you promise Mom to take good care of him?" Gemma suddenly asked sorrowfully.
Yolanda kept nodding, "Mom, don’t worry, I will definitely protect Dad."
Until the next morning, the words echoed in Yolanda’s mind, "I will definitely protect Dad."
