"Mom... Mom!"
Yolanda Greenwood knew she was dreaming, so she could call Gemma Morgan "Mom" without any reservations.
In the dream, Gemma Morgan lying on the hospital bed looked very frail as she held Yolanda’s hand, beckoning with her other hand toward soone behind Yolanda.
"Co here, why be shy with your own daughter?"
Yolanda turned around to see Jaxon Greenwood awkwardly touching his nose, before he stepped forward and took Gemma’s other hand.
"It’s wonderful, our family has finally reunited," Gemma’s eyes, full of love, shifted between Yolanda and Jaxon.
"Old Greenwood," she finally fixed her gaze on Jaxon’s face, "after I’m gone, you need to make it up to Yolanda. We’ve never fulfilled our parental duties all these years, and that is my biggest regret."
"Honey, don’t talk nonsense." Jaxon crouched down, shielding Yolanda in front of him while tightly holding Gemma’s hands, "You need to live on, live a long life. You can’t leave alone to be both father and mother, right?"
Gemma smiled tiredly, "I believe you can do it."
"Yolanda," she looked toward Yolanda again, "could you call ’Mom’ a few more tis?"
"Mom! Mom, you can’t leave and Dad behind. We three have finally co together; you can’t leave us father and daughter!"
Yolanda’s heart felt as if it were being torn apart; how much she wished she could call out ’Mom’ a few more tis and revel in true maternal love.
"My dear child, Mom will be waiting for you in another world." With her last bit of strength, Gemma brought Yolanda and Jaxon’s hands together, "You must take good care of each other."
As the words fell, her hand listlessly dropped.
"Mom! Wake up, wake up..."
"Mom, Mom!"
In the hospital room, Yolanda was still unconscious, softly calling out for her mom, tears streaming endlessly.
Noah Coldson called for Lola Gold, and together they looked on distressedly at the person on the bed.
"Why does Yolanda keep calling for her mom?" Noah had a hard ti understanding, as from what he had observed, Yolanda and Eliana Reed did not have a good relationship.
Lola Gold let out a long sigh; with things having co this far, she felt there was no point in keeping it from Noah any longer.
"Actually, Gemma Morgan is Yolanda’s biological mother."
"What did you say?" Noah looked over in disbelief, "Gemma Morgan? Yolanda’s great aunt? Is this true?"
Lola Gold nodded, "It must’ve been Eliana Reed’s doing; she switched Yolanda with lissa Greenwood at birth."
"How could this be?" Noah found it beyond belief.
"Yolanda’s father, that is Third Greenwood, was addicted to gambling and an alcoholic. Naturally, Eliana Reed didn’t want her daughter to have such a father, so..."
Lola Gold clenched her teeth with anger, "They will get their retribution."
Noah fell silent, feeling even more sympathy for Yolanda lying on the bed.
Just then, his phone rang; it was actually lissa Greenwood calling.
He imdiately hung up, but she called again.
Noah hung up once more; he truly didn’t want to hear that venomous woman’s voice.
Lola Gold frowned, noticing that the caller ID displayed the na ’Snake’, worrying whether Noah had so sort of mission.
"Big brother," she whispered when the call ca through again, "you should go out and take it. I’ll stay here with Yolanda. Besides, didn’t Dr. Hall say she wouldn’t wake up anyti soon? You go ahead without worries."
Noah nodded and stepped outside to answer the call.
"Big brother, for a grown man, you sure flip faster than flipping through a book," lissa Greenwood’s mocking voice ca through.
"If you’ve got sothing to say, say it; otherwise, I’m hanging up," Noah Coldson spoke icily. "lissa Greenwood, we’re not on joking terms."
"Alright, alright, I don’t feel like wasting words with you anyway," lissa Greenwood said resignedly, "Gemma Morgan is dead."
"What?" Noah Coldson was shocked to the extre.
lissa Greenwood frowned. "Why are you so agitated? Were you that close to her?"
Noah Coldson was so angry that he gritted his teeth. "lissa Greenwood, even if she wasn’t your biological mother, she raised you for over twenty years. How can you be so heartless?"
"So, you already knew?" lissa Greenwood’s tone was still light. "Enough already, stop playing the great philanthropist with . Cooper Coldson is your real brother, isn’t he? How did you treat him back then?"
"You!" Noah Coldson was furious beyond containnt.
"Don’t let Yolanda Greenwood find out about this for now; keep it from her as long as possible," lissa Greenwood revealed her purpose.
She knew if Yolanda Greenwood found out about Gemma Morgan’s death now, she would definitely confront Cooper Coldson to expose her.
Now was not the ti, at least not until she and Cooper Coldson had finished their wedding.
She waited a mont and didn’t hear the other end respond. Glancing at her phone, she saw that Noah Coldson had already hung up.
"Playing saints and martyrs, my foot!" lissa Greenwood scoffed disdainfully as she put away her phone.
Noah Coldson stood outside the hospital room for a while before pushing the door open to go back in.
Every ti he thought of Yolanda Greenwood calling out for her mother in her coma, crying continuously, he guessed there must be so psychological connection between mother and daughter.
He just felt that Yolanda Greenwood’s past twenty-plus years had truly been too hard.
Lola Gold noticed Noah Coldson’s grim face. "Big brother, what’s happened? If you have business to attend to, go ahead; I’ll stay here."
Noah Coldson shook his head. His gaze lingered on Yolanda Greenwood for a long while before he barely managed to speak, "Gemma Morgan... is dead."
"What?" Lola Gold stood up in shock, and when she saw Noah Coldson nodding, she felt as though she might suffocate.
Not daring to ask more in the ward for fear Yolanda would hear, she pulled Noah Coldson outside.
"Big brother, are you serious? Aunt Morgan, she’s..." She couldn’t even bring herself to say the word.
Yolanda Greenwood’s child was in grave danger. If she awoke and found out Gemma Morgan was no more... the child would surely be lost, and possibly, Yolanda Greenwood’s life might be at risk too.
How could this happen?
Why would the heavens treat her Yolanda so cruelly?
Noah Coldson heaved a heavy sigh. "Soone from the hospital just called to tell ; there’s no mistake."
"How could this happen? What about Yolanda? What is she going to do?"
Lola Gold, usually strong and rational, couldn’t help but her eyes well up with tears. "Yolanda... she hasn’t even had a chance to properly call Aunt Morgan ’mother’. How could the heavens be so blind?"
Noah Coldson crouched down and held his head with force, feeling more helpless than ever.
The two remained in the corridor for nearly half an hour, both silent until Dr. Hall arrived to make her rounds.
"Why are you out here?" She was sowhat surprised and noticed their faces were very grim. "Has sothing happened?"
Lola Gold shook her head. "Nothing’s wrong, Dr. Hall, let’s go inside and see Yolanda."
Dr. Hall stood still, her gaze swept over the two skeptically. She knew sothing was wrong.
And judging by the reactions of these two, it undoubtedly involved Yolanda Greenwood inside, and it wasn’t anything good.
Her expression grew somber. "There’s sothing I must co clean about to you!"
