When she ca out of the stairwell, lissa Greenwood’s face was full of smiles.
She glanced at the ward and noticed that Yolanda Greenwood still hadn’t woken up, which made her feel even more delighted.
However, after going upstairs, she discovered that Gemma Morgan’s ergency treatnt had just ended.
lissa had a bad feeling and quickly found Gemma’s ward, only to see that the atmosphere inside was exceptionally somber.
The doctor walked out and shook his head upon seeing her.
On the hospital bed, Gemma stared straight at the ceiling as if she had drifted into a dissociative state.
"lissa," Jaxon Greenwood said with red eyes and tear stains on his face as he stood up to greet her, "co here, say a few words to your mom."
lissa stood still as if nailed to the spot.
She didn’t care about Gemma’s life or death; in fact, she had intended to use Gemma’s life to provoke Yolanda into having a complete miscarriage.
But now that Yolanda knew she had deceived Cooper Coldson, Gemma had unexpectedly beco her trump card.
Why did she have to die now?
Annoyed, lissa cursed inwardly, calling Gemma completely useless.
"lissa!" Jaxon’s voice rose a few notches, "What are you dawdling for? Hurry over."
Reluctantly, lissa stepped forward, bent down, and took Gemma’s hand. "Mom, can you hear ? It’s lissa. Please don’t leave and Dad, okay?"
When Gemma heard her voice, she struggled to pull her hand back but couldn’t manage to break free.
She maintained her position, her eyes rolling in lissa’s direction.
"Mom, if anything happens to you now, Yolanda is going to bla herself so much!" lissa continued to provoke her, hoping to inspire her desire to live.
Indeed, Gemma reacted violently to these words.
Struggling to speak, she said, "lissa... promise , don’t bla... Yolanda..."
lissa ground her teeth with hatred—after all this ti, Gemma was still concerned about Yolanda.
"lissa," Gemma continued, "you have always been the... apple of your parents’ eye. After... after I’m gone, take good care of Dad, don’t let him down."
"Don’t worry, Mom, I know," lissa replied noncommittally, sensing that Gemma was beyond saving.
"lissa, you can go now," Gemma said, seeming a bit more lucid. "I’d like to have a mont alone with your dad... to have a talk."
lissa hesitated.
Gemma gently patted the back of her hand. "Go on, it’s fine."
"Okay." lissa let go of Gemma and turned to Jaxon. "Dad, I’ll be outside, just call if you need anything."
Jaxon nodded, but when he noticed lissa’s expression, he frowned disapprovingly.
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt that his daughter wasn’t sorrowful, though the current situation clearly didn’t allow him to dwell on such thoughts.
Jaxon sat beside the bed, carefully lifting Gemma’s hand and holding it as if it were a precious treasure.
"Help sit up," Gemma said, more alert. She knew this was a temporary rally.
Jaxon gently helped her sit up, feeling gut-wrenched yet trying to keep his composure. He truly couldn’t imagine living the rest of his life without Gemma.
"I’m sorry," Gemma started with an apology. "I am leaving you alone."
"Wife, don’t talk like that, and you’re not allowed to leave alone," Jaxon’s eyes reddened again. "Wife, we promised to wait for lissa to grow up together, to help lissa with her children. Have you forgotten?"
Gemma paused for a mont, yes, the Greenwood Family had also been so harmonious and warm once.
They were a loving couple, eagerly looking forward to their daughter growing up, planning for her future every single day. But when did everything start to change?
Or perhaps, from the very beginning, it was a solo act between her and Jaxon Greenwood.
"Old Greenwood... cough cough..." Gemma Morgan couldn’t help but start coughing at the thought.
"Wife, don’t get excited, calm down!" Jaxon Greenwood was frightened, "Should I get you so water?"
While coughing, Gemma shook her head; she didn’t want to let go of Jaxon’s hand. She feared that once let go, she would truly never be able to hold it again.
"I’m all right, really."
"Wife, don’t worry, I will take care of lissa, and ensure she marries into the Coldson Family with pride."
Gemma didn’t know what to say; she couldn’t reveal the truth, knowing that Jaxon would be as unable to accept it as she was.
"Old Greenwood," she spoke again, changing the subject, "Have you heard any news about Yolanda?"
Jaxon’s expression changed, "Why... are you asking about her?"
"Old Greenwood, Yolanda is a good child. After I’m gone, you can’t bla her anymore. Promise ..."
Gemma held Jaxon’s hand tightly, "Whenever she needs help, could you just give her a hand?"
Jaxon found it strange; Gemma was on her deathbed, so why was she so concerned about Yolanda Greenwood?
"Wife, are you keeping sothing from ?" he asked tentatively.
Gemma shook her head. If she told the truth, Jaxon’s temperant would undoubtedly lead to a fallout with lissa Greenwood, and since lissa was about to marry into the Coldson family, this would only bring harm to Jaxon.
"Promise ," she insisted.
Jaxon nodded quickly, "Okay, don’t worry, I will certainly help Yolanda whenever she needs it."
Gemma smiled, reassured. She shifted her gaze towards the door.
"Shall I call lissa in?" Jaxon misunderstood.
Gemma continued to look at the door; the light in her eyes gradually fading as she whispered softly, "I wish I could see her one last ti."
"lissa! lissa!" Jaxon, still holding Gemma’s hand, shouted loudly towards the entrance.
After a while, lissa Greenwood hurried in. Seeing that Gemma had truly stopped breathing, she rushed over and collapsed onto Gemma’s body.
"Mom! Mom, open your eyes, look at , look at your lissa!"
Jaxon, standing beside them, was also heartbroken. Choking up, he found himself unable to speak, seemingly aged a decade in an instant.
anwhile, Yolanda Greenwood had fallen into a coma and was being rushed to the Won’s and Children’s Hospital in an ambulance.
Ivy Hall was already prepared.
As the ambulance roared away, Cooper Coldson’s car just happened to stop at the hospital entrance.
Cooper got out of the car, unwittingly watching the ambulance disappear into the distance.
Richard Reyes, carrying a box of blood, tentatively called out, "President?"
"Let’s go, quickly!" Cooper returned his gaze from the departing vehicle and went upstairs with Richard.
Soon, they encountered lissa Greenwood and learned of Gemma’s death.
"Cooper, Cooper..." lissa threw herself into Cooper’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably, "Cooper, I don’t have a mother anymore, I don’t have a mother..."
On the other side in the ambulance, Noah Coldson saw Yolanda Greenwood’s lips moving as if she were trying to say sothing.
He squatted beside the stretcher, pressing his ear closer, "Yolanda, speak, I’m listening, I’m right here."
