Monsterslurkinthenight,butwhatifsomethingelsehuntedthem?AnincidentinhischildhoodleftVelikanoutcastwitharacialsubtypethatthrivesatnightanduniqueclasscalled[TheBlackFang],whichfocusesonjustonething:killingmonsters.He’sgoodatfindingthem,andhe’sgoodatslayingthem.Fortenyears,he’sbeengaininglevelsandsharpeninghisskillsonthethousandsofmonstersinfestingthewildlandsofthefrontier.Fortenyears,he’skeptalonelystretchoftownssafe.Despitehisefforts,thisyearhasseenanexplosioninthemonsterpopulation,somuchthathe’snolongercapableofprotectingeveryonebyhimself.Thisdrawstheinterestofanothermonsterhunter,onethat’sprofessionallylicensed,butheseemsmoreinterestedininvestigatingVelikthananythingelse.Atleastwithhimthere,Velikisfreetofinallyexplorethemysteriesofthedeepwood,wherehebelievesthesourceofallmonstersresides.Everyanswerhefindsleadstonewquestions,andnotevenVelikhimselfknowsthetruthofwhathappenedonthatfatefulday.Onething’sforsure:noteventhemonstersaresafeinthedark.
