Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Doomsday World’s Pharmacy Laboratory
These questions couldn’t be answered until I made contact with the rescue team.
’I’ll just take it one step at a time. My current rate of progress in the Doomsday World isn’t slow.’
’According to the current plan, the over three hundred survivors at Modu University will all possess M-Class combat strength on average in a very short amount of time.’
’Comparing it to the firefight I saw between the rescue team and that giant Zombie, the strength of the Modu University survivor settlement might even surpass the city’s official forces.’
In the Doomsday World, strength and armaments were the most important things.
And Lin Qi was in the process of acquiring just that for the faction under his control.
Technology from the Cyber World would soon proliferate throughout the Doomsday World.
He looked up at the crimson moon hanging high in the sky, an inexplicable glint in his eyes.
’If that pla-sized Extraordinary creature were to die, would it leave behind an incredibly high-Level Extraordinary Item?’
’As long as I keep developing step-by-step, I’ll eventually be able to max out the Wizard Profession in the Doomsday World.’
Lin Qi’s reverie about the future didn’t last long. He needed to be practical; the problems waiting for him back in the Cyber World were what he needed to think about now.
He piloted the Mecha, aligning the truck bed with the second floor.
Entering the building from the second floor was the best way to avoid any trouble from Zombies.
Hoisting up a centrifuge, Lin Qi said to the two unlucky survivors, "The settlement is on the sixth floor. Just hold on a little longer. Follow me upstairs."
The two poor souls were extremely weak, so Lin Qi didn’t expect them to help carry the equipment.
"Okay."
Their will to live was strong, and they followed Lin Qi all the way to the sixth floor.
Lin Qi had just arrived when Wang Ziru came to his side. "Boss, were you out moving equipment?"
Lin Qi nodded slightly. There was no need to hide his Pharmacy research from others in the Doomsday World.
"Is there more equipment? Do you need me to arrange for some people to help? The first batch of Exoskeletons has been manufactured. We were limited by the materials in the building, so we don’t have many batteries. Only five suits are operational right now."
Wang Ziru was very enthusiastic and eager to lighten Lin Qi’s burden.
"They’re already finished? That’s very efficient."
Lin Qi praised Wang Ziru’s efficiency.
The design schematics had been complete, and the production equipment had been modified back when Lin Qi was building the Mecha.
Still, to complete the first batch of Exoskeletons in half a day spoke to Wang Ziru’s sensible work allocation and the competence of the Mo University students.
"The equipment is on the second floor. Help me move it to the room next to the workshop."
"Also, these two are quite weak. Make sure they’re looked after."
After giving his instructions, Lin Qi carried the centrifuge back to his private room.
Inside, Xia Chu had spread a blanket on the floor and was resting with her eyes closed.
She startled awake at the sound of the door opening. "Lin Qi, you’re back."
Xia Chu relaxed upon seeing it was him.
"Is that... a centrifuge?"
Recognizing the equipment Lin Qi had brought back, Xia Chu asked curiously, "You’re studying mechanics. What do you need a centrifuge for?"
Lin Qi replied, "Mechanics is too simple, not challenging enough. I thought I’d take a crack at biology."
Lin Qi’s expression was full of confidence, but Xia Chu just rolled her eyes without saying anything more.
"Whatever makes you happy."
After saying this, Xia Chu sat down in a chair.
Tilting her head, Xia Chu gazed at Lin Qi’s face for a long time.
"What is it? Is there something on my face?" Lin Qi asked.
Xia Chu shook her head, then looked out the window. "Lin Qi, are we safe now?"
Lin Qi answered without hesitation. "Given the current strength of the Zombies, as long as we don’t run into one of those monsters capable of wiping out an entire rescue team, we’re safe for now."
Hearing this, a wave of sadness washed over Xia Chu. "Lin Qi... I’m homesick."
Homesickness—an unavoidable emotion for anyone far from home.
When the apocalypse first broke out, everyone was in immediate danger, with no time to think about their families and hometowns thousands of miles away.
But once their surroundings were secure, the longing would burst forth uncontrollably.
Lin Qi fell silent for a moment.
The Lin Qi of this parallel world wasn’t an orphan. Just like Xia Chu, he had parents back home in a distant town.
But Lin Qi couldn’t empathize.
He cared about his family too, but his family was in the Cyber World, not here.
Watching Xia Chu’s tears fall, he knew that logically, she needed a hug, a safe harbor.
But...
A knock came at the door, and a voice called from outside, "Boss, we’ve brought the equipment for you."
Wang Ziru’s voice drifted in, saving Lin Qi from the awkward situation.
Xia Chu wiped away her tears and went to open the door.
"Just set the equipment up in order."
The room was small, but it had been designed like a lab, with plenty of power outlets.
Even if the power went out in the future, Lin Qi could modify the wiring to draw power from the reactor.
Several survivors wearing brand-new Exoskeletons walked in one by one and set down the equipment.
"Boss, there are still a few more pieces in the truck bed. We’ll go make another run."
After stating his intentions, Wang Ziru immediately left the room, all business and efficiency.
Once again, only Lin Qi and Xia Chu were left in the room.
Xia Chu seemed to have returned to her usual self. "Can I help?"
Lin Qi nodded. It wasn’t just to console her; she really could be of help.
Even in the Cyber World, M-level Pharmacy research was essentially a brute-force process that required a massive amount of work.
With Xia Chu’s help, Lin Qi’s efficiency would increase significantly.
In fact, Lin Qi even needed a few university students familiar with lab procedures to act as his assistants.
He briefly explained the experimental procedure and its objective to Xia Chu.
"This equipment is primarily for Pharmacy research."
"We’re not making traditional Potions, but rather ones made from Extraordinary Materials."
"I’ve discovered that there’s a limit to how much Crimson Crystal Stones can enhance the human body. Once that limit is reached, their effectiveness drops off sharply."
"The Potions are meant to raise..."
He didn’t go into too much detail.
Even if Lin Qi brought out the basic Pharmacy textbooks from the Cyber World, no one else would be able to understand them anytime soon.
Not everyone had a brain as sharp as someone with the Wizard Profession.
’No, that’s not right. It’s not that the Wizard Profession makes one’s brain smarter, but that my first Wizard Ability, Spiritual Vision, has an outrageously powerful effect on brain development.’
"To summarize, we need to use a brute-force method to quickly find suitable materials for making Potions, and then get those Potions to work on people who are at Tier One strength or higher."
By the time he finished explaining the research outline, Wang Ziru had returned with his team and the rest of the equipment.
Lin Qi then gave Wang Ziru more instructions: he was to lead a rescue mission that day and collect specific medical supplies at the same time. He also had Wang Ziru assign a few assistants to the lab.
By the time all the arrangements were complete, the sky was already beginning to brighten.
’I need to improve my physical condition as much as possible before returning to the Cyber World. Even the slightest improvement might become a lifeline in a crisis.’
