Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Above-Standard M-level Potion
Lin Qi inspected all the equipment one by one, checking for any damage that might have occurred during transport.
Sure enough, the rough transport method of the Mecha’s cargo bay had left several pieces of equipment in need of repair.
"Good thing my knowledge of mechanics is solid enough."
Repairing was much less trouble than building from scratch, and his Exoskeleton contained the tools Lin Qi needed.
When Wang Ziru entered the lab with the personnel Lin Qi had requested, he found Lin Qi disassembling a piece of equipment into its component parts.
Wang Ziru froze for a moment, as did the few survivors who had come to assist.
’He just dismantled the equipment we worked so hard to bring back?’
They didn’t stay stunned for long. Lin Qi’s reassembly speed was incredibly fast. After a simple repair to a component, he quickly restored the device to its original state.
"As expected of Junior Lin! Your skills are leagues ahead. You’ve truly mastered the core technology."
Wang Ziru was the quickest to react, showering him with praise.
Lin Qi looked up at Wang Ziru.
’Junior Lin?’
This simple change in address revealed Wang Ziru’s intention to build up his image in front of the other survivors and make his relationship with Lin Qi appear close.
Lin Qi didn’t call him out on it. Wang Ziru’s little schemes would help him better manage the Survivor Camp.
"Wait here for a bit. I’ll be running some experiments later and will need your help."
Lin Qi first nodded to Wang Ziru, then turned to the few university students who had come to help.
’They must be undergraduates. There’s still a pristine kind of stupidity in their eyes.’
’Completely unlike this older guy, Wang Ziru, a part-time master’s student whose eyes have been thoroughly tainted by the sordid realities of the working world.’
Lin Qi was quite satisfied with assistants like these.
Turning back to Wang Ziru, he continued giving orders, "For today’s search and rescue mission, you must prioritize safety. Form a squad centered around the five sets of Exoskeleton Equipment, equip them with Electromagic Kiic Energy Weapons, and have them carry high-powered transmitters. If they encounter danger, they are to call for help immediately."
"If you receive a distress call, find me at once."
Lin Qi couldn’t afford to invest too much of his energy on others for the time being; the crisis in the Cyber World was too pressing.
"Understood," Wang Ziru replied solemnly.
Wang Ziru knew in his heart that only by perfectly completing the tasks Lin Qi assigned him could he secure a sufficient standing in the current survivor settlement.
In the apocalypse, status meant safety.
Being in management meant not having to personally go out and face the risks.
Wang Ziru was a man who feared death.
After replying to Lin Qi, Wang Ziru immediately turned and left the room to organize the work of the Survivor Camp.
The science and engineering students were assigned to the production line, where they would both work on production and study the design concepts in Lin Qi’s blueprints.
Students with lab experience were sent to Lin Qi’s laboratory to assist.
The rest were liberal arts students.
In the apocalypse, the knowledge learned from liberal arts seemed to have lost much of its use.
Not that it was completely useless.
A few students from more philosophical disciplines had firm convictions and exceptional drive.
Wang Ziru assigned them directly to the field teams, responsible for rescuing survivors and gathering supplies.
These students could serve as a source of morale for the teams and even showed some leadership qualities.
The Survivor Camp, with the Club Activity Building as its core base, began to operate at full capacity.
Everything was gradually getting on track.
...
"Next, I’ll explain the experimental procedure. First, I can tell you that the project is called the Body Enhancement Potion."
"That’s right, it’s exactly what you’re thinking. Once this enhancement Potion is perfected, even if you haven’t awakened an Extraordinary Power in the apocalypse, you have a hope of popping a Potion and becoming Captain America."
"Who’s Captain America? That’s not important. You just need to know he’s a Super Soldier."
"Only by giving every survivor the ability to protect themselves—even the power to tear most Zombies apart with their bare hands—does human civilization have a hope."
’First, establish the goal. Instill a sense of conviction in the grunts, let them know they’re part of something that will change the fate of humanity.’
’This is me empowering the team, galvanizing them into action.’
Then, Lin Qi continued, "Your job right now is simple. The experiment is similar to a brute-force method using controlled variables. You will try every possible combination with the limited materials we have."
"I will use my Extraordinary Power to check the status of the Potions, so you don’t need to worry too much."
Lin Qi had already mastered this entire process back at the company.
The two brand-new M-level Potions were the proof of his work.
The only difference from the company project now was that Lin Qi would be adding Crimson Crystal Stone, an Extraordinary Item that could be obtained in bulk.
The Crimson Crystal Stone itself contained dense Spiritual Particles and possessed body-enhancing effects.
What Lin Qi needed to do was try to amplify that effect.
He glanced at the grunts in the lab. Forget them—even Xia Chu, who was listening to Lin Qi speak, had a fervent glint in her eyes.
Lin Qi thought to himself, ’There should be literature in the Cyber World on using Extraordinary Items as materials for Potions, but it’s definitely not something M-Class can touch. Even A-Class research might not involve Extraordinary Items.’
’I hope the experiment succeeds, and I hope the Potion’s production method isn’t too different from that of an M-level Potion.’
In truth, Lin Qi wasn’t very confident. Even though he had successfully created a Potion before, he was still a novice in Pharmacy.
’First, I’ll try using the basic framework of a generic M-level Potion to guide an initial aggregation effect of Spiritual Particles.’
Once a Potion had Spiritual Particles attached to it, it would gain special effects that ordinary drugs lacked.
Spiritual Particles could enhance the medicinal effects of most drugs; this was the cornerstone of creating M-level Potions.
"Each of you will be responsible for ten test tubes. Add the ingredients in the order I specify."
"Try your best to avoid creating bubbles..."
Lin Qi demonstrated as he commanded.
The process seemed to go very smoothly.
The Potions produced the Spiritual Particle adhesion effect, and because the concentration of Spiritual Particles in the Doomsday World far exceeded that of the Cyber World, the Potion’s effects were likely to be much stronger.
’Could an M-level Potion from the Cyber World have its enhancement ceiling raised in the Doomsday World?’
Lin Qi pondered for a moment before making a decision.
Speculation was pointless. Experimentation was the only path to truth.
First, he mixed a batch of the M-level Potion he had successfully created at the company.
Based on Lin Qi’s judgment, the purpose of this Potion was to enhance the human body.
The precise target audience for this type of Potion was people who hadn’t yet been initiated into Extraordinary Professions like Martial Artist, as well as those who simply wanted to strengthen their bodies.
An M-level Potion could strengthen a person from a normal state to the Tier One threshold. That was the limit of an M-level Potion.
To develop one’s physical potential further, one needed to use the methods of Extraordinary Professions like Martial Artist or Knight.
’My current physical fitness is already at Tier One. The Crimson Crystal Stone and M-level Potions have a negligible effect on me in my current state.’
’The amount of Spiritual Particles in this M-level Potion is almost five times that of one from the Cyber World.’
’With my Spiritual Vision monitoring my condition, I can afford to experiment.’
Wizards, while they resisted Prosthetic Body implantation, had no qualms about popping Potions.
Lin Qi raised a test tube and drank the Potion.
Seeing this, Xia Chu cried out in alarm, "Lin Qi, don’t experiment on yourself!"
