Worlds,likeallotherlivingbeings,areborn,grow,andthendie.And,sometimes,theyareborninthemostunexpectedways.CeciliawasaplayerintheVRMMOHyperborea,agamethatmixedSurvivalandRPG.Yet,shewasn’tanyplayer,butaproudmemberofitsstrongestguild,theDeadNerdsSociety.Itwasaguildformedonlybypatientswithimpairedmobilitywhohadnootherdistractionbesidesplayingthegamewiththeneuralrealityimplementswhiletheirbodieswitheredawayintheirhospitalbeds.Theyallknewthattheirlivesweretiedtomachines,sotheymadeapactofbeingloggedintothegamewhentheydie.Theyallknewthatthegameworldwasnottherealworld.Yet,their‘real’worldwasjustahospitalroomandtheneverendingprocessionofnurses,serums,andmedicalexams.TheonlyworldthatmatteredwasHyperborea.ToCecilia’ssurprise,thatwastheworldwhereshefoundherselfinwhenshedied.Insteadoftheexpectedoblivionortheafterlifepromisedbyreligions,shewaswithintheskinofhercharacter,insidethegame.Notonlythat,but,assheexploresaround,shefindssignsthatherguildcompanionshavealsobeenisekaidintoit.Itshouldn’tbepossibletomigratetoaworldthatonlyexistedasagame,createdbyhumanswithhumanpowerandtech.Yet,itwouldn’tbepossibletodenythattheywereactuallythere.And,notonlythat,asformerplayers,theywereamongthemostpowerfulbeingsofthisworld.
