The sll of fish, both living, dead, and salted, drilled into their nose.
The shop owners were busy moving large carts of fish across the area while the custors browsed through the ones on display.
Oliver’s mouth watered slightly.
The fresh sardine, mackerel, and tuna were beckoning him closer, asking to be bought and fried.
Just the thought made his mouth water.
’Now that I think about it, how long has it been since I ate a good fish fry?’ Oliver asked himself.
Since he returned, he was focused on all kinds of things except things he enjoyed, for example food.
While he did eat a lot of chicken, beef, and mana beast at, he didn’t dive into the culinary delicacies of the sea.
’What an unfortunate ti to have my mouth water?’ Oliver said in dismay.
If it were any other situation, he would have bought so.
"Are you sure?" Achara’s words snapped him out.
"Yes."
"But there’s nothing here."
Achara looked around in confusion.
"That’s correct," Oliver muttered.
But then, as if they both had the sa thought, they looked down at the ground.
Nothing was above.
Nothing was on the place where they stood.
So, what if there is sothing below?
The hard pavent beneath their feet had round tallic discs embedded on it.
It was the opening to the sewers.
"Down below?" Achara’s face twisted into a frown.
The thought of dirty sewers made her nauseous..
"Could be."
Oliver didn’t waste a second. He jumped right into action and pulled the manhole cover out.
It weighed about eighty kilograms and was flushed to the floor. So, he had to use the blood to lift it a bit before moving it away.
So of the people nearby looked at them curiously while he lifted the manhole cover.
Achara took out her military badge and flashed it around.
"Everyone, move back and vacate the area imdiately." She ordered.
"We are from the military and are inspecting this area for demon presence."
Her words traveled through the area and caught the attention of everyone.
Achara was wearing tightly fitting, neat military clothes, so the people nearby quickly backed away.
"Are you going in first?" Oliver asked.
"No way."
She reacted like most won and pinched her nose and spoke.
"Did you inform your team?" Oliver, another question.
"Yes, they will be here soon."
"That’s great. Ask them to evacuate the citizens before following in."
"Okay."
She nodded.
Then, Oliver took a deep breath and jumped into the manhole.
Imdiately, his eyes beca useless. The pitch black area underneath swallowed him whole as he fumbled around to grasp sothing.
The sll was horrendous, and the slimy texture covering everything made him even more uncomfortable.
Finally, he reached the bottom and took out his phone.
While the flashlight might be limited, it was better than nothing, he thought.
Once the flashlight was turned on, the area underneath brightened.
Dark grey walls and circular tunnels ca into his view.
The tunnels were wide enough for a car to easily pass through and there was a stream of dirty water flowing through a channel in the middle.
The channel was wide and spacious, and there was a path designed for people to walk through near it.
Lifting his head, he prayed to the kind soul who designed the sewers.
He didn’t even want to think about what he would have done if it were a small and cramped space inside.
"It’s okay down here, co down." Oliver gave the signal.
Achara stepped on the rusted ladder and jumped down slowly.
By that ti, her team was nearby and was beginning to evacuate the civilians. So, she felt comfortable entering the sewers.
If sothing dangerous happened, they wouldn’t implicate the people above.
"Now, where should we go?" Achara asked once he stood safely inside the tunnel.
When Oliver looked at her, he was amazed to see her face covered in a mask and her body covered in a thin wall of water.
"You had a mask!" Oliver asked in surprise.
The wall of water was her ability. He ignored it and asked about the mask.
"A mask." Achara nodded.
She was clearly implying that she didn’t want to give it to him.
"Uh. Stingy. I would have given it if I had one." Oliver sighed. "Anyway, the location we are going towards is that." Oliver pointed to the eting point of the tunnels.
There was a long pit directly under the plus-shaped junction.
"Why?"
"I can sll human blood from that direction."
"Okay. Let’s go."
"Before that, is there a way for you to cover in a similar water film?" Oliver asked.
He was pointing at her body while speaking.
"You can use blood to do the sa, right?"
She had seen Oliver cover himself to create the glider suit, so she wondered why he was asking her.
"Can but won’t. Blood is precious. I can’t waste it right now, can I?" Oliver lifted his eyebrows.
The blood he could use was limited. A little above ten thousand litres was his max limit. For the past month, he didn’t have any opportunity to fill in and train. So, increasing the blood sac quantity was out of the question.
In fact, he only had about 7,960 litres in his possession right now.
He lost a few litres while gliding and using his ability.
To fill up the blood sac, he needs to kill and drain his foes.
"Oh!" Achara finally nodded and used her ability.
Blobs of water ford around Oliver and attached to his body.
He felt his body weight increase by a couple of kilograms.
"Thank you."
The long legged woman took a step forward while saying, "I won’t be able to maintain them during combat."
"No problem."
Like that, the duo walked through the tunnel to the junction right before them.
Occasionally, Achara made weird movents to avoid the filth that was around her.
Oliver followed her, giving her a funny look.
The image she built up was slowly breaking down before his face.
Oliver wanted to laugh, but kept it in with everything he had.
He didn’t want her to release the water film in anger.
