"Alright."
Mi Chenxuan turned off the earpiece and suddenly rembered sothing. His eyes widened as he looked at Ling. "Who has your dad’s detonator?"
"I have it." Ling pointed to her earring.
Mi Chenxuan let out a long sigh of relief.
"Now it’s your turn to tell —where is You?" Ling, seeing that he wasn’t speaking after asking her, flushed with anger and shouted.
"You lives in an idyllic paradise. She’s happy there. If you want her to have a normal life, stop asking about her whereabouts." Mi Chenxuan reached out toward the railing. "Hand the earring. I assu you’d want your dad to at least leave behind an intact corpse, right?"
Ling burst into tears with a loud wail.
"Move closer!" Mi Chenxuan barked impatiently.
Crying, Ling leaned her head toward Mi Chenxuan.
Mi Chenxuan removed her earring and placed it in his chest pocket.
"Let ask you one more question. Why did you turn yourself in?"
Ling glanced at him before quickly averting her gaze.
"If you won’t say it, I will. Your other plan was to kill Tong Airui to avenge your master!"
Ling’s downcast eyes shifted slightly but never dared to et Mi Chenxuan’s gaze. This man knew too much; she found him terrifying.
Mi Chenxuan frowned and pressed his earpiece. "Fourth Brother, did you find the detonator?"
"No." Tong Airui smirked slightly and turned his head to glance at Dapeng, who was still hamring away at the keyboard. "Eighth has improved!"
Dapeng chuckled, "A strong general has no weak soldiers under him!"
Tong Airui deliberately kept his earpiece on. Hearing his Fourth Brother’s praise, Mi Chenxuan’s mood lifted noticeably.
Mi Chenxuan switched off the earpiece and stared intently at Ling. "Not telling where the detonator is doesn’t matter. This car has already been jamd, and the detonator won’t work. But you wanting to kill my Fourth Brother and Fourth Sister-in-law? That’s crossed the line. Even if you don’t want to blow this up, I will. I’ll make sure I get to watch you burn to ashes!"
Ling jerked her head up to glare at him. "You learned all this from You, didn’t you? Why would she betray Master? Why?!"
"She didn’t betray your Master. She’s just like you—single-mindedly seeking revenge for him. But the one who killed your Master wasn’t Tong Airui. It was your own people!"
Ling frowned. "Were those fellow disciples who died recently all killed by You?"
"That, I don’t know." Mi Chenxuan smirked faintly. "You didn’t manage to jump into the sea earlier. How about I help you into the water later?"
Ling furrowed her brows tightly and stared at Mi Chenxuan. "What ti is it now?"
Mi Chenxuan glanced at the ti. "One-oh-five."
"You really took precautions! The detonator is outside the window of the hotel’s twelfth floor. I set it to detonate at one o’clock, but it’s already five minutes past, and I’m still alive..."
Before she could finish, Mi Chenxuan flung the car door open and stepped out. He ordered the two team mbers standing guard outside, "Watch her. I’m going upstairs to check."
Mi Chenxuan strode into the lobby. Tong Airui’s laughter ca through the earpiece. "Why are you in such a rush to co up?"
"Reporting to make ands! Fourth Brother, has soone been sent to retrieve the detonator? If not, I can go get it."
"Soone’s gone down to get it. Just co straight up."
Mi Chenxuan ascended directly to the twentieth floor. Entering the presidential suite, he signaled to Yi Luowa, who was sitting on the sofa.
Yi Luowa blinked. "What do you an?"
Mi Chenxuan pointed to the study. "Co with ."
Yi Luowa pouted. "Your Fourth Brother is working in there. I don’t dare go in."
"Cut it out! During the big competition, you were his advisor the whole ti. Now suddenly you’re scared?" Mi Chenxuan grabbed Yi Luowa by the hand and pulled her into the study.
Tong Airui, who’d been in a good mood, imdiately darkened when he saw Mi Chenxuan leading his wife by the hand into the room.
Mi Chenxuan let go of Yi Luowa’s hand with a grin. "Fourth Brother, is that really necessary?"
Tong Airui shot him a glare. "Say what you need to, and get out. We still haven’t caught Xiao Ling."
"Alright, I’ll keep it short. Once I’m done, I’ll handle Xiao Ling. Fourth Brother, about Ling—I only found out recently. I didn’t deliberately keep it from you."
Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly.
Mi Chenxuan spoke rapidly. "I heard it from You talking in her sleep. That’s how I learned about Ling. When I confronted her, asking why she kept it a secret, that fool admitted she was afraid we’d kill Ling."
"Seems like none of the people from wherever they ca from are sane!" Tong Airui massaged his temples, exasperated. "We’re swamped with real work—we don’t have ti to go after soone like Ling!"
Mi Chenxuan scratched his head. "That’s what I thought too. I’ll ask her properly when I get back."
"From what I gather about You and Ling’s relationship, if it were up to , I’d suggest you not bring this up with You. If she finds out Ling’s in our custody, she’ll flip out."
Mi Chenxuan sighed. "You’re right. You and Ling grew up together—they were closest. When I asked You if Ling discovered her situation would she betray her, she replied without hesitation: Even with a gun to Ling’s head, she wouldn’t reveal her whereabouts to outsiders."
"That’s because no gun’s been put to her head!" Tong Airui pondered briefly. "Though there’s no detonator, there’s still sothing inside her body—she’s an ongoing threat. Forget Xiao Ling; focus on getting that thing out of Ling first, then secretly transfer her to the base prison."
"Just have her take so laxatives—it’ll be sorted soon."
"Then go. And don’t reveal anything about You’s current situation."
"Understood!" Mi Chenxuan quickly exited the room.
As soon as he left, Yi Luowa walked over to Tong Airui and began massaging his temples.
Tong Airui leaned back, enjoying the mont. In a soft voice, he asked, "Wife, what’s your take on You keeping Ling in the dark all this ti?"
"Ling must have done sothing in the past—sothing unforgivable in You’s eyes. That’s why she chose to hide it."
Tong Airui nodded in agreent. "There’s no ti to deal with her now. We’ll escort her back to the base first and take our ti interrogating her. Eighth’s idea isn’t bad—trade one piece of information for another. I’ll make a few trades with her too."
Yi Luowa chuckled. "How’s the capture going?"
"Ling’s father is dead, the sniper resisted arrest and was neutralized on the spot, and now Xiao Ling’s the only one left."
Tong Airui pulled her hands down. "Go rest. By the ti you wake up, there’ll be good news."
Yi Luowa smiled. "I’d rather stay with you. I’ll rest after we hear the news."
Tong Airui gazed at her fondly. "Fine, sit on the sofa then. I’ll check on the other situation."
Yi Luowa nodded.
At four in the morning, news ca from Captain Min’s squad. Xiao Ling tried to escape Laiwang Island by speedboat. Upon interception, she detonated an explosive, dying on the spot and injuring three team mbers.
Tong Airui pressed his lips tightly together, saying nothing for a long ti. What Mi Chenxuan had anticipated, he had also thought of. He had hoped to get so information from Xiao Ling about his wife’s past, but after an entire night of trouble, it once again appeared unresolved!
"Husband..." Yi Luowa walked over and lightly patted his arm.
Tong Airui gave her an apologetic look.
Yi Luowa frowned slightly. "Did you forget what I’ve told you? Let it go."
Tong Airui nodded. "Alright, we’ll let it go."
"At dawn, we’ll divide forces. You go reassure the frightened travelers and minimize the fallout. I’ll check on the injured team mbers. Once everything’s handled, let’s leave here quickly. It’s not about fear—it’s about not dragging more people into this because of ."
Tong Airui shook his head. "Wife, no one is being dragged into this because of you."
Yi Luowa gave a helpless smile. "You’re lying through your teeth."
At sunrise, the two split their tasks. With everything resolved on the island, Tong Airui brought Yi Luowa back to the ship.
Two days later, the couple returned to Xiawu. Tong Airui wrapped up the work on his end and accompanied Yi Luowa back to the Duke’s Manor.
