Qiao Sang entered the waiting area for contestants, just about to gossip about who Naiden was.
At that mont, the announcer's voice rang out:
"Naiden effortlessly wins again! Among all the D-rank Beast Tars in the Top Ten Districts' arena rankings, he has consistently placed around 70th. Last year, he even secured an impressive 68th place. As the star contestant of our 3rd District, he has never disappointed us!"
Qiao Sang looked at the holographic screen broadcasting the arena battle in real ti.
The screen was giving a close-up of a red-haired young man with well-defined facial features.
"Is that Naiden?" Qiao Sang asked.
Tang Yi nodded.
"That's what the introduction just said."
A star contestant, no wonder he even had a manager... Qiao Sang quickly thought of sothing and asked, "How is this ranking determined?"
Qiao Sang spent most of her ti buried in books and rarely participated in group chats. She didn't even know how ranking points worked back then, let alone sothing as popular as the pet beast arena battles on Chaosu Star.
Since she had only visited for the first ti yesterday, Tang Yi was already used to her asking what seed like common knowledge
He explained:
"The Upper Ten Districts hold an annual Pet Beast Arena Championship at a fixed ti. Beast Tars of all ranks can participate, and the rankings are determined during this event and updated every year."
"Any contestant who ranks in the top 100 is considered a star contestant. They usually have dedicated teams backing them, and their overall strength is recognized as the best among Beast Tars of their rank."
Qiao Sang looked at Tang Yi.
"Then wouldn't contestants without a team be significantly weaker?"
Unlike the national Campus Beast Mastering League, many large-scale competitions on Blue Star allowed the use of tools and spirit patterns.
The most popular contestants in these competitions were often backed by tool brands and spirit pattern specialists.
After all, it was a form of advertisent that allowed more people to see their brands.
To get top contestants to use their products, so brands would even pay astronomical sums to have them wear their gear and use their spirit patterns.
Over ti, people saw the profit potential, and specialized companies erged to manage these deals.
With managers ca star contestants.
When a skilled contestant gained a team’s support, losing beca almost impossible.
"So, when we say 'overall strength,' it includes all factors." Tang Yi said.
"Tools and spirit patterns are part of that strength."
That made sense… Qiao Sang glanced at the virtual screen, where Naiden was already in his next match.
Star contestants all started as ordinary competitors, gradually gaining attention and proving their value to major brands.
And since even a single loss could spark heated discussions online, they couldn’t afford to treat wins and losses lightly like regular contestants.
No wonder his manager was making shady moves behind the scenes.
Logically, the top 100 Beast Tars of a rank in the Upper Ten Districts should represent the absolute best. But now, it seed like there was so padding in those ranks…
As ti passed, Qiao Sang's na finally appeared in the next round of matchups.
Tang Yi was stunned.
"Why are you up first? I clearly registered before you."
Qiao Sang shook her head.
"I have no idea."
Just then, a contestant nearby who had also been watching the screen turned to them.
"You guys really don’t know? It’s not about who registers first. Right now, Naiden is in the arena. If they send up an average contestant, people will question the fairness of the match, thinking it's rigged to let Naiden rack up consecutive wins and beco today’s defending champion."
Tang Yi: …
Ouch.
He was the runner-up in the National Campus Beast Mastering League's high school division, yet he was being categorized as a weak contestant…
Nice observation skills, though. Just from a glance at her information, they recognized her strength… Qiao Sang saw Tang Yi's expression and comforted him.
"Your current ranking is still E-rank Beast Tar. Once you qualify as a D-rank, this won't happen anymore."
Tang Yi nodded and took out his phone.
"I'll look for a suitable pet beast to contract right now!"
Just as he pulled up the interface, he suddenly thought of sothing. His eyes lit up.
"Do you think you can win?"
Qiao Sang thought for a mont and said, "Yes."
Tang Yi imdiately turned and headed toward the betting area.
Qiao Sang grabbed him.
"What?" Tang Yi turned around.
"Are you going to place a bet?" Qiao Sang asked.
"Yeah." Tang Yi sounded excited.
"You're up against a star contestant! Betting on you would be a major upset!"
Qiao Sang chuckled.
"You believe just because I said so?"
"I know your strength, even if no one else here does." Tang Yi glanced around, then lowered his voice.
"And I watched Naiden’s previous matches. He’s definitely not your match. Plus, he's already fought so many rounds in a row. He’s exhausted, while you're at full strength. Of course you'll win."
Qiao Sang thought, Not bad for a runner-up, his analysis is on point.
"I'll transfer you 100,000. Help place a bet, too." Qiao Sang said as she pulled out her phone.
Tang Yi was montarily stunned.
"Didn't you already ask Yuna to bet for you?"
Qiao Sang looked at him.
"Who would complain about having too much money?"
Tang Yi burst into laughter and asked, "What score are you betting on?"
"3-0. 3, him 0." Qiao Sang answered.
---
Fifteen minutes later.
The announcer spoke:
"This is already Naiden’s 21st match! Just four more wins, and he’ll be today’s new defending champion!"
"Our next contestant is making her debut in our arena tournant. Facing Naiden in her very first match, should we envy her or pity her?"
Qiao Sang stepped onto the command platform.
She heard the comntary but showed no reaction.
Betting on herself to win 3-0 wasn’t about underestimating the star contestant.
She had watched several of Naiden’s matches and had already gathered key information, his pet beast’s attributes, skill power, tool usage, and other critical details.
anwhile, Naiden knew nothing about her.
Most importantly, as Tang Yi pointed out, Naiden was already fatigued.
If she couldn’t win under these conditions, then her national championship title would be aningless.
As Qiao Sang entered the battlefield, the audience erupted into chatter.
Although the Pet Beast Arena had no age restrictions, this girl looked way too young.
"I’m a little nearsighted, can soone tell what her pet beast is?"
"Sending soone this young up there, aren’t they just handing Naiden an easy win?"
"Is she even an adult?"
"So people just look younger than they are. You think the outco is so easy to predict? The betting pool never makes a loss. No way it’s going to be a 3-0 sweep."
"True, Naiden will win, but it won’t be a perfect victory."
"Good point. What did you bet?"
"Heh, 2-1."
---
anwhile, in the tournant’s office area.
A middle-aged man in black watched the arena, frowning at the obviously youthful contestant.
"Are you sure this kid can put pressure on Naiden?"
A staff mber reviewing the contestant list assured him, "Absolutely. Her records show she has three high-level pet beasts."
Three high-level pet beasts… The middle-aged man was montarily stunned.
Three high-level pet beasts at her age?
"How old is she?" He couldn’t help but ask.
"Let check." The staff mber replied.
Age wasn’t a factor in their selection process, contestants were matched based on their Beast Tar rank and pet levels, not age.
What was the big deal about looking young?
He casually took a sip of water while checking the records.
Two seconds later...
"Pfft!"
The staff mber spat water all over the screen.
"What’s wrong?" The middle-aged man frowned.
Ignoring the ss, the staff mber stared at the information in shock. His voice sharpened.
"Oh my god! 15! She’s only 15!"
