"I wanted to talk to you about Brother rlin," Vernon said.
Helena froze for a second. "You are right. We should talk about Brother rlin."
Vernon nodded. "Yes. Did you think of when to tell him?"
Helena rubbed her face with her palms and shook her head. "When to tell him? I still don’t know anything about what to tell him."
"What exactly are you thinking about the matter?" Vernon wanted to hear her thoughts.
Helena slowly shook her head. "I don’t know either. Actually, Brother rlin had his parents, who were recently dead. I think it has been a year or sothing. So, I don’t even know if he knows that they weren’t his real parents.
"If he knew, then did he search for his real parents? Anyway, even if he had so sort of misunderstanding, we can still have a good talk and clear everything up as long as he knew they weren’t his real parents.
"But, what if... what if he doesn’t even know that he was adopted? All his life, he should be thinking that he was living with his own family. Now, suddenly dumping on him the news that it was all a lie? That the parents who raised him weren’t his real parents? How would he take it?
"So, I don’t know how to bring this topic up in front of him."
Vernon listened carefully and nodded. He understood her concerns.
He raised his hand and gently caressed her little head. "Silly girl. Why do you put so much pressure on yourself? You have to learn to let so things go."
"What do you an?" Helena blinked her misty eyes and tilted her head to the side in confusion. She did not understand what he ant.
Vernon explained patiently, "Whether Brother rlin knows the truth or not, the reality wouldn’t change, right?"
Helena blinked her eyes. She nodded. [Isn’t that obvious? What exactly are you getting at?]
Vernon got angry and he tapped her head with his palm. "You idiot. No matter what, Brother rlin had to face this truth one day. Just because he would feel bad, you would not tell him at all, right?"
Helena rubbed her head where he had just slapped her and slowly reacted to his words. "Hmm."
"Finding Brother rlin was your job, and you finished it. Facing his truth was Brother rlin’s job. Let him do his job. Don’t worry about his worries and spoil your ntal health. Anyway, he had to know his truth. Just prepare yourself to face him and tell him your side of the story. I think he would care about how to deal with it. He is not a child, nor is he so sensitive that he would break down into pieces after finding the truth. If you ask , I think he would be happy to know that he still had a family that loves him so much that it did not stop searching for him even after so many years of losing him.
"Also, he already treated you as his sister. If he knows that you really are his sister, related by blood, I am sure he would be very happy. So, don’t overthink too much. Do you understand?" Vernon patiently explained to her to calm down.
Helena blinked her eyes at him. [When did this man mature so much? Maybe this isn’t his ’maturity’? I think it is just a side effect of his carefreeness? Yes, that should be it. He did not think about how sad Brother rlin would be when he heard the truth. He just wants to dump all his problems on his head, like it has nothing to do with us. Shaless.
[But then again, he is just trying to cheer up. He is trying to give so strength to et and talk to Brother rlin. So, I can’t really scold him either. He is just trying his best to be supportive of . Sigh!]
"Okay. I understand." She just nodded calmly.
"..." Vernon was speechless. If he did not hear her thoughts, he would have thought that she really agreed with his words.
At least, she had enough conscience to accept that he was saying everything for her sake.
He accepted defeat. He had no way of dealing with this woman. He rubbed his forehead before looking at her and asked, "So, when are you going to tell Brother rlin?"
Helena blinked her eyes. [When? I didn’t think that yet. When should I do it? Today? No. No. I am not prepared yet. Tomorrow? No. I think we will be on our ’honeymoon’ by then. Who would call their brother during their honeymoon to connect their relationships? It would be weird. Also, it should be done face to face. Sigh!]
She shook her head, "Not now. Let’s et him once we are back from our honeymoon."
Vernon heard her thoughts and understood why she ca to such a conclusion. He sighed and nodded, "Okay."
After a few seconds of thinking, Vernon suddenly asked her, "What if Brother rlin becos busy by the ti we co back? He might be out of the country for so work? That would delay our plans, right?"
Helena blinked her eyes. Even though that was a random thought this man got, he still had a point.
She had already decided to delay until the end of their honeymoon. If this matter were delayed any further because of rlin’s other matters, she wouldn’t know how to bring this matter up again.
"You are right. I think I should schedule an appointnt with Brother rlin first before we leave for our ’honeymoon’." Helena nodded to Vernon’s words and made a plan.
Vernon heard her plan and thought it was good. So, he nodded back.
Helena did not waste any ti and took her phone out to call rlin imdiately.
"Helena? You called so early in the morning. Do you have sothing to tell ?" rlin answered the phone imdiately and asked with a hint of excitent in his voice.
Helena was stunned by this sudden bout of excitent. [What is he so excited about?] She thought to herself in doubt.
But because of her own nervousness, she did not delve into the matter too much.
"Umm, Brother rlin..." She started but did not know how to continue.
"Yes? What is it?" rlin probed her further.
Helena took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and blurted out, "Brother rlin, I have sothing very important to tell you."
She suddenly heard a crash on the phone. Sothing must have fallen on rlin’s side.
"Brother rlin, are you okay?" Helena asked in concern.
"Yeah. Yes. I am fine. Nothing happened. Tell . What do you have to tell ?" rlin’s flustered voice was heard.
"Umm... That..." Helena once again was at a loss for words.
"What is it? Do you have to worry so much to talk to ? You can tell anything. You know that, right? You are my sister, after all." rlin said. As soon as he said the last sentence, both of them froze on both ends of their phones.
[Sister? He called his sister. Even though I know he did not know that we really are related, hearing the word sister from him feels very good.]
Vernon heard her thoughts and smiled softly.
He knew her. She never had any siblings. She was an only child in her house. There are no relatives on the Fords’ side of the family, while she has never t the ones from her mother’s side of the family.
So there was no one she could call her sibling before. That was why she always said that she was envious of his relationship with his brother.
In his previous life, when Father Ford married the second ti, Helena was ecstatic to call Grace her sister. She accepted her wholeheartedly and wanted to fulfill all her wishes she wanted to do with her sibling.
But he doesn’t know when or how, but their relationship started to turn sour.
Only in this life did he slowly start to see things that he did not see before, and realized that Grace had always been acting good in front of Helena, but was inherently bad with bad intentions.
So, Helena’s relationship with rlin was the most purest form of sibling affection that she always wanted.
He was happy for her. He moved to her side, sat beside her, and hugged her shoulders.
Helena sniffled softly. She thanked him with her eyes and humd into the phone, "Hmm."
"Brother rlin, what I wanted to tell you, I don’t want to tell you on the phone. I need your appointnt a week later so we can talk face to face. Are you free then?" She asked softly.
"Next week? Of course, I am free for you all the ti. But why can’t you et today? Why do you have to wait till a week later?" rlin asked in confusion. He really wanted to have this talk as soon as possible.
