Just as the anchors on the television had announced, Ivy suddenly rembered....

In her past life, the governnt had promised rescue operations for the non-infected citizens the mont they realized the situation was spiraling completely out of control. In a desperate attempt to prevent the entire population from turning into monsters, they had quickly organized evacuation efforts.

But everyone knew those rescue teams wouldn’t go door to door, picking people up individually.

Instead, the announcent had been clear:

Survivors were to gather at specific designated points chosen by the governnt....only then would they be evacuated.

By that ti... the world had already fallen into ruin.

Cities lay in destruction, overrun by monsters. So people had already given up, sitting quietly as they waited for the inevitable. Others, however, still clung desperately to life, refusing to surrender.

When Ivy and her husband’s family heard the announcent, a wave of relief washed over them but it didn’t last long.

Hesitation quickly followed.

"What if we don’t even make it there?" Adrian muttered.

"What if we die on the way?" Maya added, her voice trembling.

"And what if..." old madam Blackwood whispered, fear tightening in her throat, "what if we die even after reaching the rescue point?"

Those thoughts circled endlessly in their minds, planting seeds of doubt and fear.

No one wanted to take the first step.

But Ivy couldn’t afford that luxury.

Her heart pounded painfully against her chest as she looked at her children. Fear clawed at her insides, but her resolve was stronger.

She knew what hesitation would cost them.

Taking a deep, shaky breath, she turned to her husband, her eyes filled with urgency.

"Adrian," she called, her voice tight but firm.

He glanced at her impatiently, clearly annoyed.

Ivy swallowed her pride.

She knew he didn’t care about her but he did care about Maya.

And more importantly... the child growing inside her.

"What if the monsters find us here?" Ivy said, her voice rising slightly, desperation slipping through. "Our food supplies are already gone. At this rate, we might starve to death before those creatures even get the chance to tear us apart."

Adrian frowned, his expression darkening slightly.

Ivy didn’t stop.

Her gaze shifted briefly to Maya’s stomach before returning to him.

"And what about your heir?" she pressed, her tone sharper now. "The child she’s carrying....your child. Do you really want to lose both mother and baby when there’s a chance....a real chance that a rescue team is waiting for us?"

That was the sentence that struck him.

The ntion of his heir.

Adrian’s jaw tightened, and for the first ti, unease flickered across his face. His fingers curled slightly at his sides as he glanced toward Maya, who instinctively placed a protective hand over her belly.

Silence fell over the group.

Then finally....

"...Fine," Adrian muttered, though reluctance still lingered in his voice. "We’ll go."

Relief washed over Ivy, but she didn’t let it show.

Because she knew this wasn’t over yet.

Even after agreeing, Adrian continued to stall, dragging his feet as though hoping the problem would sohow solve itself.

Ivy clenched her fists.

She couldn’t allow that.

"The rescue team won’t wait forever," she said again, more firmly this ti. "If we keep hesitating, they might leave before we even get there."

That finally pushed him.

With no other choice, the group began their journey.

---

The road to the rescue point was nothing short of hell.

They moved cautiously, every step filled with danger.

When monsters appeared.....they fought.

Ivy fought as she was always the one pushed forward despite the fact that she was heavily pregnant just as Maya.

When they were outnumbered...they hid.

By the ti they reached one of the designated rescue points, exhaustion weighed heavily on their bodies.

And just ahead of them was an helicopter.

Its blades were already spinning, kicking up dust and debris into the air as it prepared for takeoff.

For a mont, hope surged through Ivy’s chest.

They made it.

They actually made it.

The helicopter began to lift slightly but then paused as Ivy began waving a colourful clothes just to catch the attention of those inside.

And it spotted them.

The pilot hesitated, hovering just enough for them to approach.

A soldier standing by the entrance scanned them quickly, his expression hard and unreadable.

Then he spoke, his voice firm and authoritative....

"There are only three seats left."

The soldier’s sharp gaze swept across the six figures standing before him...

Ivy, her two children, Adrian, Maya and Old Lady Blackwood.

“Take the children, the pregnant woman, and the old lady with you... please.”

Ivy’s voice trembled as she spoke, her tone filled with urgency and quiet desperation.

At that mont, she didn’t care about herself.

She only wanted her daughters to live.

“I... I will stay behind with my husband,” she added quickly, forcing the words out despite how heavy they felt. “We’ll find another way to survive.”

Without waiting for a response, she dropped to her knees in front of Aria and Lila. Her hands trembled as she gently wiped away the tears streaming down their small, frightened faces.

“Hey... hey, don’t cry,” Ivy whispered softly, forcing a fragile smile onto her lips. “Mommy will be with you soon, okay? I promise... I’ll co find you.”

“M...Mommy...” Aria sniffled, clutching her sleeve tightly.

Lila’s lips quivered as she shook her head. “No... we don’t want to go without you...”

Ivy’s heart shattered.

But she forced herself to stay strong.

“Who said you and your daughters are going?”
