Hearing Donnie’s response, Hoover internally let out a sigh of relief. Donnie’s answer was not simply a speculative analysis; it also represented his stance, which was that the New Jersey Consortium supported Harding in this matter.
If Donnie supported Harding’s continued presidential campaign, then all of New Jersey’s votes would belong to Harding, and Donnie would also provide Harding with a substantial amount of political donations.
Although Donnie couldn’t decide who the President of the United States would be, his influence was still very significant!
“So what about Harry D’Agostino as the Attorney General?”
Hoover continued to inquire.
The appointnt for the position of Director of the Bureau of Investigation was still under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General.
Hoover’s inquiry had a hidden aning, he wanted to know if Harry D’Agostino would be affected by the Teapot Do scandal like Albert Furr and be given up by Harding.
Donnie said with a smile, “You can rest assured on this point, regardless of whether Harry will remain in that position or not, your position as Director will not change at all!”
After receiving Donnie’s assurance, Hoover finally relaxed and said with a smile, “If that’s the case, then I’m at ease!”
After expressing his sentint, Hoover sincerely thanked Donnie, “Donnie, rest assured, as long as I am in my position at the Bureau of Investigation, you won’t encounter any problems on your end!”
“With your assurance, I am fully satisfied!” Donnie chuckled and continued, “I’ve already asked Steve to arrange rooms for the three of you. Tonight, you can take it easy at the Surf Hotel. There’s no need to rush back to Washington!”
Hoover laughed heartily, “Then we’ll gladly accept your hospitality!”
Afterward, Hoover said to Al Olden, “I know you and Olden are good friends, have a good chat. Rhode and I will head back to our rooms first!”
Al Olden was Donnie’s openly placed figure in the Bureau of Investigation, which was common knowledge, and now Hoover had brought Al Olden along, proclaiming him as one of his most trusted individuals – a gesture clearly ant for Donnie.
Donnie also said with a smile, “I’ll have Steve take you over!”
Steve Cotting led Hoover and Rhode Granger back to their respective rooms. Hoover opened his room door and saw a young man in a suit with a hint of allure sitting in the living room.
Seeing this scene, Hoover’s face broke into a smile.
Inside Donnie’s office.
“This is the material about Albert Furr that Hoover asked to give to you! I’ve deleted any part that ntions your na or the na of Pandora Oil,” Al Olden said in a relaxed tone, sitting across from Donnie.
Although Donnie had already learned about the contents of this material from Albert Furr, he still reviewed it once more. After not finding any further issues, he directly placed it in his drawer.
“How are things going for you in the Bureau of Investigation?”
Al Olden shook his head, “No issues, everything is going pretty well. Hoover is a very capable man. In just a little over a year, he’s managed to consolidate all the forces within the Bureau. Now everyone is willing to follow his orders and work accordingly!”
While Donnie was aware of Hoover’s abilities, he was still impressed when hearing about them from Al Olden.
Indeed, to be able to sit in the FBI Director’s chair for decades and remain untouchable by even the Presidents, Hoover’s abilities were indeed formidable!
“But this is exactly why you need to be cautious!” Al Olden warned Donnie, “The more capable a person is, the less willing they are to be controlled by others.”
Donnie nodded; he naturally believed this to be the case.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sent so many undercover agents into the FBI; however, Donnie didn’t completely trust Al Olden either. Power is sothing everyone craves and Al Olden is no exception. If Hoover could beco the Director of the Bureau with his support, naturally, Al Olden thought he could too.
So, Donnie was selective about Al Olden’s words.
“Outsiders all say that I am Hoover’s confidant, but in reality, I know that it’s people like Rhode Granger who are truly Hoover’s confidants. Everything he has shown now is actually just for you to know through my eyes!”
Donnie nodded again: “It’s okay, for now, you just need to do what you should be doing. As for the rest, we’ll see. Now is not the ti to discuss these things!”
With the election imminent, any political matters had to make way for it!
Al Olden didn’t expect that a few words from him would make Donnie unconditionally support him. He knew this was impossible – he just wanted to plant a seed in Donnie’s mind.
“By the way, how is Old Carl now? It’s been a long ti since I’ve seen him!”
Having finished discussing the serious matters, Al Olden also chatted with Donnie about family affairs, as such topics also served to strengthen their relationship.
Donnie smiled, “Everything is fine. He’s currently in Atlantic City. If you want to see him, you can find him at my seaside estate.”
Saying this, Donnie’s expression beca a bit peculiar. He explained, “If you can’t find him at the seaside estate, you can also look for Joachim Lang under John. He knows where Carl is!”
With the due date of Helen and Alice approaching, the Old Carl couple had co from Elwood Village to Atlantic City and were staying at Donnie’s seaside estate.
