I rembered what the doctor advised : keep my emotions stable, try not to get too excited or nervous, so as not to affect the child. So after listening to Ivan Underwood’s words, I took a deep breath.
"Ivan Underwood, I’ll pretend I didn’t hear what you just said. I’m sure you have a fever. Lie down on the sofa, and I’ll go buy you so dicine."
After speaking, I quickly turned and left.
I drove around and found a pharmacy nearby, then went inside to buy so cold and fever dicine.
"Miss Hathaway!"
As I was about to leave, the figure of Julian Jennings appeared from behind a shelf, holding several boxes of hangover dicine.
"Mr. Jennings," I greeted politely.
"What a coincidence. Do you live nearby?" Julian Jennings asked with a cultured and gentle smile on his face.
I nodded, "Mm, what about you? Why are you here?"
Julian Jennings is different from Henry Preston and Ivan Underwood; he seems to be a very sociable person, able to chat with anyone, whether familiar or not.
He replied, "It’s a long story. Didn’t Henry Preston invest in a project here? It’s the project of the company I work for now, and we are considered partners now. There happens to be a drinking session tonight nearby, so I ca to the pharmacy to buy so dicine in advance."
"Oh, I see. That’s nice." I smiled, then said goodbye, "I have things to do at ho, I should go now."
"Alright, bye-bye." Julian Jennings waved.
I left the pharmacy, only to find my car surrounded. Cars were parked in both the front and rear spots, and there was a car parked illegally next to it, with no one inside.
What’s excessive is that the illegally parked car didn’t even leave a contact number.
Just as I was feeling annoyed, I saw Julian Jennings co out of the pharmacy and head to a car across the road. After he got in, he opened the window, and I then saw Henry Preston sitting in the driver’s seat.
When Henry Preston saw , there was a flicker of oddness in his eyes, but it quickly returned to calmness. He said sothing to Julian Jennings, and the car started and drove away.
I continued to wait for the driver of the parked car to show up.
Three minutes later, Henry Preston’s car turned around and ca back, stopping slightly in front of .
Henry Preston got out of the car, wearing a white shirt and black trousers, simple yet stylish as always, his hair slicked back, revealing handso features, with a face that’s smoothly refined yet slightly rugged, perfect even without any hairstyling.
He glanced at the parked car and then at mine, "In a hurry to go ho?"
"Mm." I replied indifferently.
"I’ll give you a ride." Henry Preston paused and said.
I was indeed in a hurry to go ho, but I wouldn’t take a ride in Henry Preston’s car.
"No need, I’ll just catch a cab." I coldly rejected Henry Preston and waited by the roadside for a taxi.
"You have a cold?" Henry Preston wasn’t upset by my refusal; instead, he looked at the dicine I was holding.
I didn’t know what aning his concern had, and just shook my head, "No."
Henry Preston’s gaze darkened instantly, "Soone else at ho sick? Dylan Dawson hasn’t moved out yet?"
At this mont, a taxi stopped in front of . I didn’t answer Henry Preston, just got in, gave the driver an address, and sped away.
Not far ahead was a crossroads. As I waited at the red light, I saw from the rearview mirror that Henry Preston got back in his car, drove over, and stopped beside to wait for the light.
I didn’t look at him, and when the green light turned on, the two cars went their separate ways.
When I got ho, Ivan Underwood had already prepared a simple three dishes and a soup, sitting on the sofa sipping warm water. Seeing return, he put down the cup, "I feel much better."
"Take the dicine, read the instructions yourself!" I impatiently shoved the dicine toward Ivan Underwood.
Ivan Underwood wasn’t upset by my impatience; he obediently opened the dicine box, checked the instructions, and took the dicine.
I went to the kitchen, served two bowls of rice, gave one to Ivan Underwood, and began eating.
I told Ivan Underwood about eting Henry Preston and Julian Jennings earlier, but he didn’t have much of a reaction, and even added so at to my bowl, "Eat more."
"Get better with the dicine and then quickly find a hotel." I felt a little suffocated.
I just felt like eting Henry Preston was a warning from heaven.
Getting involved with either of them inevitably entangles with the other.
Ivan Underwood nodded, "Mm, is it raining outside?"
"It’s raining." I glanced out at the balcony.
"I didn’t have ti to buy a car when I ca over. In a while, I’ll be burning with fever, carrying my suitcase, and walk in the rain to catch a cab." Ivan Underwood said in a steady tone.
The scene—doesn’t that paint a vivid picture?
I took a bite of the greens, puzzled, "Can’t you tell Henry and them? He can co pick you up."
"Tell him what?" Ivan Underwood put down the bowl and chopsticks, asking, "Tell him I flew overseas to chase his ex-wife?"
I almost choked to death on the greens.
I used to think Ivan Underwood had a dull personality, expressed emotions slower than Henry Preston, not straightforward enough, which is why he lost in the emotional race. Now he talks like he’s dropping bombs?
"Cough, cough, cough..." I coughed a few tis, then drank so water, glaring at Ivan Underwood, "Ivan Underwood, can you stop talking nonsense? There’s absolutely no possibility between us!"
"Anything is possible in this world," Ivan Underwood looked at intently, "Don’t be quick to reject ."
How can I not reject?! I’m carrying a child now!
I frantically grabbed at my hair, then stood up, "Leave the dishes to tomorrow; I’m going to sleep. You can sleep in the guest room tonight, and get a hotel first thing in the morning!"
With that, I headed to the room, not noticing the smile that curved Ivan Underwood’s lips.
The next morning I had to go back to work, so I got up early. The guest room bed was tidily made by Ivan Underwood, and the dishes on the table were cleanly cleared, he must have left.
I sighed in relief, drove to work.
I haven’t decided whether to resign or not, so I go to work anyway.
As soon as I started work, Sherman Hathaway found and told about Azure Vaughn.
It turned out that the marketing departnt didn’t agree to Azure Vaughn’s resignation, but Sherman Hathaway was displeased after discovering Azure Vaughn’s identity and personally instructed the marketing departnt minister to approve Azure Vaughn’s resignation application.
It was just a part-ti position anyway; the process was simple.
I had no objection.
When work ended, I went to the parking lot, ready to drive ho, opened the car door, but suddenly felt nauseated, so I ran to the bathroom in the parking lot to vomit before coming out.
Upon exiting, I saw Azure Vaughn and Joy Lawson standing there, their expressions awkward. Joy Lawson just opened her mouth to speak, but Azure Vaughn imdiately dragged her away.
I frowned; did she just see vomit?
I’m worried Azure Vaughn might suspect I’m pregnant, as she’s quite sensitive and won’s intuition is sharper than n’s.
