Military Science Office, three people squabbling noisily.

When soldiers quarrel, their voices are loud and their presence imposing.

Fang Huai also took the opportunity during the argunt to deliberately or indifferently glance over the list and materials on the table.

Eventually, Section Chief Liu stood up, though he couldn’t bring himself to explode in anger,

and sowhat helplessly made a bowing gesture towards the three n, then said with a stern face:

"You all think you’re big shots, get out, go outside first! Okay?"

The two n, however, stood there, unwilling to leave.

Fang Huai walked to the window, scanned the situation below with a glance, imdiately chuckled and headed out, saying as he walked:

"Section Chief Liu, I’ll wait for you downstairs!"

Once he stepped out the office door, he imdiately quickened his pace, took a few steps, and then broke into a run.

A smile crept across his face.

"Heh, only a fool would play your ga!"

Downstairs, a queue was already forming for a dical check-up, about to board the bus, and a lieutenant was collecting docunts by the door.

Normally, the gathering point would be at the hospital. But this year, there were changes: the Ard Forces Departnt issued a joint notice in 2008 about "Efforts to Enlist This Year’s Graduates from Colleges and Universities," stepping up recruitnt efforts on campuses and giving priority to these students for selection and processing.

Those coming today to complete their paperwork and sent imdiately for dical examinations were a batch of fresh graduates, the highly sought-after prospects everyone wanted to snatch up.

This year’s policy of recruiting university students had just started, and there weren’t many regulations about where to assign soldiers; as for numbers, the Ard Forces Departnt might not be able to distribute them evenly, especially since not all university graduates were the sa—undergraduates specializing in science and technology, as well as students with athletic abilities, held more value than other students, so it was crucial to understand these details before making a move.

Thankfully, there wasn’t yet a mandatory rule that enlistnt registration had to be done online before signing up, completing the intended service registration (volunteer). Otherwise, if assigned based on previously filled preferences, firefighting would hardly have much to compete for.

Everyone says firefighting is a noble job, but when it cos down to it, many kids don’t want to be assigned to a "gun-less" branch when they enlist.

It was crucial to do so publicity.

The bus was large; definitely too big for the few people in the courtyard, Fang Huai walked casually to the door with his hands behind his back, and smoothly followed a student planning to board the bus.

"Eh? Eh? Which unit are you from?" The lieutenant at the bus door stopped him.

Fang Huai waved his hand, pushing his hand aside, and said quite naturally:

"Section Chief Liu is looking for ; he told to co along!"

With that, he swiftly hopped on the bus.

...

A dozen minutes later.

Section Chief Liu, with two n trailing behind him, headed down to the bus. As they reached the front, seeing the scene inside, his face turned sour.

"Hey... I’m not just boasting, but our squadron is top-notch!"

"Company Leader, I heard we’re not allowed to bring personal items, does that an we can only use military-provided items? Can I still bring my own razor?"

"Ah, don’t exaggerate! You don’t need to feel stressed out. Being a soldier ans listening to your squad leader! Essential personal items are allowed! On weekends and such, you can go out, visit the supermarket, wear casual clothes, just be mindful of your appearance! Like us in firefighting and so of the People’s Ard Police, we’re in the city! It’s just the People’s Liberation Army that’s a bit tougher, stationed far from the city, not so easy to get leave!"

"Think about it, just a four-hour break, and it’s not convenient to take transportation. Isn’t all the ti wasted just traveling back and forth?"

"Mm-hmm!"

A group of naïve kids on the bus nodded in agreent.

A People’s Liberation Army cadre below couldn’t help shouting: "We have a military service society! Don’t spread falsehoods!"

Just as the students on the bus turned their heads, Fang Huai imdiately made a mysterious expression and recaptured their attention with one sentence:

"Let tell you, the military service societies are run by the families of leadership. Whatever you buy, they keep track! Don’t buy recklessly! Later, they’ll say you like snacks, smoking, and give you a hard ti!

If you’re assigned to us in firefighting, or to the urban ard police, it’s better. You’ve seen the fire brigades, right? There are convenience stores at the entrance! Run by locals!"

"Oh..." The students were like hamsters at a eting, their vague eyes brightening up, continuing to nod in agreent.

What a good guy!

As the bus began to rumble, Fang Huai’s voice was drowned out, but the two PLA cadres looking at a bunch of students being swayed like nodding garlic heads were filled with remorse.

Why did they waste their ti arguing with Section Chief Liu?

If they had known they could get on the bus, they would have co down sooner!

"Section Chief Liu! This, this, this... aren’t you going to step in?!"

Section Chief Liu waved towards the bus with a look of utter speechlessness: "Comrade Fang! Co down!"

Fang Huai raised his hand in acknowledgnt, stood up, and quickly said to a few students:

"Liu Yue, Sun Quanjiang, Guo Changfa, Huang Xuan, you guys, not bad. I think you’ve got what it takes to be firefighters, eligible to join our squadron! Special forces in the fire service! And you know, with all kinds of allowances, you can earn an extra thousand or so compared to other branches as a conscript!

If you want to know more, I’ll be in this courtyard waiting for you during the political vetting in a few days!"

A few students who had their nas called out felt proud, sensing that the military leadership held them in high regard.

But, after all, they were all college students, and so weren’t so easily fooled, laughing loudly:

"Company Leader, you firefighters don’t even carry guns, and you’re talking about special forces? Are you as tough as those few down there?"

Fang Huai instantly puffed up his chest: "Heh, those guys? Those three..."

As he began to speak, Fang Huai suddenly saw that the three were staring at him intently, promptly excepting Section Chief Liu.

"...those two bound together wouldn’t even be a match for !"

"Wow..." The students imdiately lit up with excitent.

Are all soldiers this boastful?

This ti the laughter was quite loud and clearly heard below.

As Fang Huai casually descended the bus, the younger PLA captain promptly stepped forward and said loudly:
